Interstellar (2014)
Fantastic Movie With a Hint of Everything
This movie starts off a little slow, but has to build up the characters for such an emotionally driven plot. Clearly from the title, if you are not into Sci-Fi, this movie is not for you. The nice thing to me is it is more of a reality based Sci-Fi.
The casting for this movie could draw you in on it's own. The dept that Mathew McConaughey shows throughout the film is second to none. There are a few emotional, family scenes that will bring a tear to just about anyone's eye. Just by his performance alone, you are unable to not feel for the characters involved. Anne Hathaway plays the pivotal role beside McConaughey, and does not disappoint. Even Topher Grace from 70's show makes a good appearance.
Throughout the film, they make great use of real life concepts. From Relativity to the processes that occur inside a black hole, a lot of information is factual and concise. Even if you feel like it is slow throughout, I highly recommend paying close attention and sticking around for the ending!!
Making a Murderer (2015)
This one is a MUST SEE!!!
First off, the production of this movie is next to none. To be able to approach so much content from one side, and still make it feel almost unbiased is amazing.
If you are going to watch the first episode, you better clear your schedule. It's incredibly hard not to blow through all 10 episodes. It's like a good book that you can't put down. However, this will play more on your emotions than an average book.
What makes this so upsetting is this happens regularly. With everything else going on with Police in this era, and for profit prison, it's great to see these kind of stories being viewed by a large number of people. Netflix reaches a lot of people, and hopefully this will educate some that wouldn't read about it.
One of my favorite parts was that you would never know who produced it without researching it. They tell the entire story via court testimony, depositions, interviews, and taped conversations with almost every lawyer, officer, and prosecutor involved. The amount of information that you consume over the ten hours is insane. I had jury duty about 8 months ago. I can guarantee the jury I was on would have returned the opposite verdict within hours.
Without giving anything away, this has made me lose what little faith I had in the justice system. I mean, I was 10 when OJ got off (his first trial). I remember sitting in my middle school class thinking "money buys innocence". How sad it is over 2 decades later and the thoughts of my idiotic youth seem to be more fact every day.
I'm sure this would be billed as a "conspiracy theory" by some, but anyone who views this with an open mind will walk away wondering what they can do to help. The emotional connect to the family is unreal.
Soaked in Bleach (2015)
Courtney should at least be charged with falsifying a document
Courtney admits to falsifying a police report, yet receives no charge? This is obviously a small thing in comparison to a murder charge, but I'm surprised it is never brought up. I am sure that report was used to sway quite a few minds. One of the last lines in the movies says it all... with royalties, Cobain's estate is probably worth over a billion. Due to the prenup, Courtney would have received pennies and had to live with Curt becoming the biggest star on the planet.
It is amazing that with the right amount of money, and the right connections, you can basically do as you please without repercussion. (See OJ - first time around... Can't fix stupid) I am sure this case will never be re-opened, but if it were, it wouldn't take long for the obvious verdict.
The only bad part about the movie I'd say is the way they portrayed Courtney. At one point, Tom gives her a towel to cover her very exposed Beaver. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the depiction was somewhat accurate, but they made her out like she was just picked up off the strip in Vegas after a weekend gangbang. Who knows, maybe she was...
In the end this is a must see, but at the same time painful view for any Nirvana fan. To give it less than 10 stars would be impossible in my opinion. It was great to see so many facts compiled in one place. It was easy to fact check and extremely accurate. I can understand why the investigation went towards suicide at the time, but with the information currently available, it is hard to believe that no one will be allowed to look into it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go listen to the Nevermind album on repeat for the next few days.
Setup (2011)
Just Flat Out Terrible
This movie from start to finish was just bad. I decided to give it one star because there were a few points that were kind of funny (some just awkward) but enough that made me at least want to see the ending.
This film had two things working against it from the beginning. The Script and 50 Cent. Even a great actor like Bruce Willis could not make this script sound fluent. There were many parts where it was just weird the way he delivered the lines. Some of the dialogue felt like it was out of an early 90's horror flick. And, 50 cent, I mean come on. At least if they had cast someone with a smidgen of acting ability, he could of tried to carry the main character and storyline a little more. But having 50 cent try to do it was laughable.
I'd have to say that this move is below a B flick. I would not waste my time, but after I got halfway through and wanted to turn it off, I had already invested 40 minutes of my life.
Draft Day (2014)
Excellent Movie for the sports lover and non sports lover alike
A little about me: I am 30 and have been an avid NFL fan for about 20 years. I have never missed a game from my favorite team. With that being said, I'm surprised at home much my girlfriend related to the movie (she hates football)! I thought this movie did a wonderful job of meshing both the sports world and all of the pressures on these high paid executives with the challenges and problems they face in everyday life. To me, it helped you feel more like they were people as opposed to highly paid executives. I am no fan of Kevin Costner, but he did a great job in this movie. I always felt like his delivery and everything was weak and in a power position like the GM of the Cleveland Browns, I never thought that would work. But, he pulled it off. With that being said, I think there were much better people for the role.
The storyline is very easy to follow, and while you think you would be able to predict the ending easily, it has some very nice twists. The main thing that I took away from this movie was that there is so much more to the life of a GM then making that pick. From other things on his mind, to keeping his job, it is a constant struggle.
The storyline went from strictly being about the draft and preparation to the second half focusing on more of a love affair and family and how to juggle both. Excellent movie and highly recommended.
Moneyball (2011)
Wonderful, Inspiring Movie with great attention to detail
I was very excited to watch this movie and was not let down the slightest bit. From beginning to end, it draws you into the factual story of Billy Beane. Jonah Hill plays a crucial part in the movie and was cast perfectly for this role. After doing a bit of research about Mr. Beane's life, it was interesting to see how close they stayed to the facts. The movie spells out the future of baseball and holds your attention from beginning to end. It's a little over two hours, but Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill keep you occupied the entire time! Generally when a story sticks this much to the facts, it tends to get more boring. I was not a baseball fan the first time I watched this movie, and the story was still written extremely well and delivered perfectly!
The Departed (2006)
Such an Amazing movie - can watch it many times
The cast of this movie is second to none. And They don't disappoint with their acting either. Each is cast into a perfect role for them. I am not a fan of the Boston accents but the writing and plot of the movie is amazing. The whole way through you are trying to figure out what is going on and who is really good and bad. There are MULTIPLE twists at the end of the movie that you will not see coming. I cannot say enough for the amazing acting and to me it is more like reading a book then watching a movie. You are on the edge of your seat the entire time. I would highly recommend this movie if you are big into the whole Boston atmosphere and Irish as well!
Catch .44 (2011)
Middle of the road movie, tried to mimic Pulp Fiction
Although it flashes some big names such as Forest Whittaker and Bruce Willis, this is far from a blockbuster hit. The setup of the movie was good, and the three beautiful actresses did help to hold your attention, but the storyline was very weak. I liked how they setup each scene similar to Pulp Fiction, where they would show a glimpse of the future and then flash back to another time. The plot was just very, very weak and the ending was to predictable for me. It's not a movie I'd watch again, but could be worth a first viewing. There is very little action, but the opening five minutes will draw you in and keep you watching.
Two for the Money (2005)
I loved this movie and thought it was very accurate
From the opening scene, to the closing scene, this movie was setup perfectly. The cast was wonderful, and Matthew McConaughey was perfect for the leading role. Al Pachino is listed first, but "John Anthony" is what makes the movie. If you have ever been a part of the betting world, there is nothing not to like about this movie. It shows the upside and the downside for both the businesses facilitating this type of behavior as well as how it impacts the individuals. Seeing the ups and downs that Matthew McConaughey experiences along the way will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I was extremely pleased with this movie and the twists and things throughout will def keep you watching!
TalhotBlond (2012)
Terrible Acting, could have been great!
If it wasn't for the awful acting, I could maybe give it a 4. In this day in age, the plot was very intriguing and would reach out to a lot of different people. However, the main actor was literally one of the worst I've yet to see. He was supposed to be a very laid back teacher that got suckered into the Internet, but he reminded me of the main actor in Napolian Dynamite. He ruined the entire movie, and the other actors were very weak as well. This was an extremely low budget film that had maybe 10 different scenes in it. Over 50% of the movie takes place in the house. Anyone could have written and produced this movie that has ever accessed the Internet. The other big problem I had is it's all based off of an online Poker Site. I've played these sites for 10 years, and you never run into this kind of thing. Had it been based around Craigslist or something more reasonable, it could have been a lot more entertaining. As it was, it lacked a lot, and has a very disappointing ending.
The Kill Hole (2012)
Very poor movie all around
The only reason I could give this 2 stars was because of the great acting by both Torry Kittles (Sgt. Devon Carter) and Chadwick Boseman (Lt. Samuel Drake). As for the movie, it was beyond horrible. It starts out with a very emotionally scarred man (Drake). He was recently discharged from fighting in Iraq and took up a job as a cab driver. He is convinced by some mercenaries that he needs to clean up some of the things that happened in Iraq and that another marine (Devon Carter) witnessed the heinous things that occurred. The first 30 minutes of the movie are PAINFULLY boring. Not one bit of action occurs and the dialogue is very dry. Once you meet Sgt. Carter, the action heats up for about 10 minutes and then goes back to the dry plot, story, and dialogue. Carter has become a withdrawn maniac that lives in the jungle after what he has seen and they try to bring in little stories like what happened to his spotter from seeing the actions. This was all pointless to even add to the story at that point since you never meet his spotter (Binder) or see more than a five second cut-scene from Iraw. By the end of the movie, I was counting the minutes until it would end. I was waiting around for a very dramatic ending, but was again extremely disappointed.
Savages (2012)
I thought it was a good movie and a good plot but could have been so much more
The storyline and plot of the movie is very good and I think it could have been excellent. Two Young men tied up in growing are sharing a girlfriend. They are both complete polar opposites and this works out great for the woman as well as the storyline. It is a constant struggle between money, staying safe, and the future. Both of the young men have very different ideals on how to obtain this and what they want from their futures. I thought that it had a quality ending and the acting was average, but the constant voice over was very annoying and most of the ending to the movie was very predictable. It is definitely worth a watch but not worth watching more than once.
The Next Three Days (2010)
Not very good at all
From the acting, to the storyline, to the way everything happened, this movie was just not very good. A man's wife is sentenced to jail, and after all of the appeals fail, he decides to break her out. Since he has never done anything illegal in his life, this proves to be quite the endeavor. He makes many arrangements for life after getting her out, most of them very boring, and the whole escape is very poorly planned and not exciting at all. It is not a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is something that may hold your attention for the duration of the movie, but you will walk away saying, I'd have much rather tuned into something else. The acting wasn't terrible and it was a decent budget film so I will give it a 4.
Catfish (2010)
Props to the promoters ... no one would watch this movie without the deceiving trailer
I used to think that Buried (horrible movie) was the worst movie ever made. Now, that award goes to Catfish. It is a documentary and basically set-up similar to Blair witch project (with no climax). I think I wouldn't be so bitter if the trailer didn't say the last 40 minutes was going to be so scary. The last forty minutes are literally just when they meet the family. It's not even a twist as anyone could tell what was going to happen ten minutes into the film. There was absolutely nothing that was "thrilling" in the movie. I'm not even sure why they would bill it that way as not one person could come away from this movie feeling scared. People lie on Facebook? Is that really news? The movie was horribly directed and edited and it was hard to even make it through. The only reason I stayed with it was for the ending. I thought something incredible would happen. But just having the person cry and say I messed up is hardly a movie. Not only that but the title of the movie comes from a 1 minute clip in the last 2 minutes of the movie. Not one mention is made to "catfish" before that. This movie is basically something that a 6th grader would do as a project. I have a movie I made in ninth grade that would blow this one out of the water. Unfortunately for all of us, they had money to make this movie. They must be the ones tweaking the reviews on it as well as no one in their right mind could even consider this a movie. I could sum up everything in one minute and make it more interesting. Do not waste 90 minutes of your life on this movie, or I promise, you will be sorry!!
Buried (2010)
honestly, the worst movie I ever saw
This movie is honestly the worst movie I ever saw. It opens up in the coffin and for literally the first ten minutes, you just hear the guy groaning a moving around. Not only that but the sound effects are HORRIBLE. I could have made better ones in my basement with my $20 microphone. It sounds like they just took a microphone and hit it on the side of a wall or something for a while. But, there is not one word said in the first 10 minutes. Then, it is all just talking on the phone. I have never been this bored watching a movie in my entire life. Granted the ending is a little sad, but extremely predictable. The other part that was just stupid is the camera angles. I think this guy must have been the worst director. I am going to look at what else he did, but I assume NOTHING. I could direct a movie better than him. The stupid angles that were out of the coffin?!?!?! How did those make any sense at all. I own over 2,000 movies and watch movies (literally) daily and nothing has been so god awful. I only watched the whole thing because I hoped they would at least have a good ending or something. It is the most low budget film ever made. I'm pretty sure with the crappy microphone they used, they probably didn't even have a comma in their budget. If I had to guess, they put out about $800 to make this film.
The Recruit (2003)
Very good movie with very good acting
How can you go wrong with Colin Ferrel and Al Pachino. This movie is full of twists and turns and you won't figure out what is going on until the end. It is a very interesting look at what many people find interesting ... THE CIA. Definitely worth watching once, but the ending is very good, so it is really only worth watching once. The girl in the movie is extremely hot, and all of the "tests" that they have to do make the movie lots of fun. Colin Ferrel is the perfect actor for the role. The movie would not have been nearly as good without his superb acting! I think this movie is along the lines of something like Mind Hunters or something with the twists at the end and how it holds your attention on the edge of your seat throughout.
