Halloween Ends (2022)
Disappointing
The film teased with plans of a continuation. They spent more than half the film building on the likelihood that Corey was going to take Michael's place and it would all make sense then. Kill Michael and another takes his place. Why would you spend so much time on a storyline that went absolutely nowhere?
Story had the needed elements. Flashbacks, obligatory kid being tormented by the demons of a horrible accident. He literally finds Michael and Michael sees what the kids has gone through and doesn't kill him. All points you to there being a reason why Corey is introduced. And then "Poof!", Absolutely nothing comes from it. What was that all for? You could've spent 1hr 50min with cheap kills, chase scenes, rooting for the underdog, etc. Instead you build on a story and never deliver on it.
I'm stumped as to why this movie was even made.
Shithouse (2020)
Unexpected
Cooper wore two hats for this movie. His character having a hard time adjusting into college life was realistic and many people will relate to it. Dylan being scared of moving forward and being girl next door beautiful worked well. You wanted to get to know them a little more as each scene progressed.
I didn't get to know Pete, however, if he had maybe a word or two to say the development of his character might've brought this story to new heights 😉 Just kidding, of course. We learn more about him than most of the other characters tho.
Truth be told, while this movie might not be for everybody, if you're looking for lasers and special effects you might be disappointed. Nonetheless, I'd recommend watching it. You might be pleasantly surprised, like I was.
Nocturnal Animals (2016)
Makes no real sense
I'm still trying to find some redeeming value in this movie. Alas, I cannot find any. Story made no real sense and was just downright annoying. No entertainment value, no awesome twist. I get that the dancing ladies in the beginning were part of "her art", but it also had nothing to provide the story. Cheating husband? Nothing to that story either. Maybe you could think that's why she was eyeing her ex-husband and had to read his book. Who knows. A man who almost acts indifferent with what happens to his wife and daughter. So unrealistic. I stayed watching in the hopes that something would make sense of this horrid movie. That never happened. If you're looking for a good movie stay away from this one. It's nowhere near worth your money or your time. It definitely doesn't deserve it's IMDb rating.
Fantasy Island (2020)
So much better than expected or rated
I thought this movie was going to be a typical slasher, horror movie. Something that I would quickly forget, but this movie surprised me. The storyline was rather good and had some good twists. Definitely not a slasher, horror movie. While it won't win any movie awards it definitely deserves a viewing and a much better rating on IMDB which is currently at 4.6.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
Totally unexpected!
Even such an awesome cast could not save this film. Surely it was an effort in trying to make the most boring zombie movie ever made and it succeeded. I had been looking forward to watching this movie for a long time and was majorly disappointed. No real story to begin with so it didn't need jabs at other story lines to make it more entertaining. It just made it even worse. Good and popular actors does not a good movie make. I wouldn't recommend it.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
I hope...
Of all the movies I have ever seen in my lifetime, this ranks up there with the few and the proud of the most awesome movies you'd gladly watch over and over. It is truly a masterpiece. Pity it didn't beat Forrest Gump as picture of the year in 1994 (a good movie in its own merit) as Shawshank, to me, was much more of an enthralling film and deserving of the title.
One of the best choices in this film was to have Morgan Freeman (Red) as the narrator. Morgan has a voice and a way of telling a story that pulls you right into it. He does the same in the more recent film March Of The Penguins, which is also another good film.
Another good thing about Shawshank is that when you come to the "stunning" ending they don't just drop you right there, they still spend a good 15 - 20 minutes developing the end of the story. That's something I so wish wish they would do with more films nowadays.
If you haven't seen The Shawshank Redemption (based on the short story by Stephen King called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption), what are you waiting for? ;)
