Der Tunnel (2001)
The Best Version of "Der Tunnel" Ever!
The premise for this movie has been made many times before but never like this one in the way that it plays out with so many meanings, great performances by actors like the gorgeous Nicolette Krebitz, and with such tension and gripping fingers. This is a film you could watch many times for all the many layers, like the reviewers has already said. I agree, but don't be afraid of that, watch it the first time just for the excitement of great film-making from Germany!
Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (2000)
Great Follow-Up to Run, Lola, Run for Tykwer
This film is a very great follow-up to "Run, Lola, Run," excuse my English but see this film right away. Franka Potente is even better here than in "Lola," and the film twists and turns so that you never know your way or can guess where you will be. If you have only seen one film by this director you must see this and then you will hooked by the way Tykwer blends genres that shouldn't seem to mix and comes up with a brand new recipe for film!
Long Hello and Short Goodbye (1999)
Very Excellent Thriller
Excuse my English but this is a great German film called "Long Hello and Short Goodbye" by Rainer Kaufmann who also directed "The Pharmacist." This film is made very beautiful and thrilling to see, with exciting performances from the gorgeous Nicolette Krebitz. There are twists and turns, laughs, and a great shoot-out at the end. What I like too is that it says something about the human condition but says so in this telling of a modern film noir. If you like "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Pulp Fiction" this is the way that I can think only to describe what Rainer Kaufmann has done here. I will give this film five stars for the twists and turns of the plot, three stars for humor and sexiness of the bed scenes, four stars for mood and tension and pacing, five stars for the look and beauty. All in all I say it gets a 4.5/5.0...and so Dietrich says to see it now!
