What a Whopper (1961)
The Worst Comedy Ever Made!
After watching this dire garbage for 25 minutes I thought that perhaps even death would be infinitely more preferable than carrying on viewing! I bought this stinker on DVD recently, mainly to view the gorgeous Carole Lesley, but I presumed that any film boasting such an array of talent(Adam Faith apart) would be worth watching........boy,was I wrong! This is arguably the WORST comedy in history.............maybe even the worst FILM ever made!! An irritating melange of mind numbing proportions! Some films are so bad that they take on a charm of their own.......this is not one of them. It's bad......very bad.......tedious.......painful! I rest my case....do not waste your cash....or your time....you have been warned!
I Start Counting (1970)
A Haunting Gem Of A Film
I saw this film way back in 1980,BBC1 screened it in a late night slot, luckily I taped it.I don't think its ever been re-screened in the UK. I personally find this little gem of a thriller to be Jennys best work.......from her finest period. Just think, three superb films in a row, from 1969 to '70......I Start Counting......Walkabout......and The Railway Children......what a trio! Plus......I was forgetting another lost gem: The Snow Goose from 1971. I do wish that I Start Counting(and The Snow Goose)were available on DVD. I Start Counting touches on the loss of innocence in a rapidly changing world.....catch this film....if you can!
Doctor Who (2005)
Excellent! Sharp.......Funny........Scary.....Perfection!
I was never a huge Who fanatic. I enjoyed the first few years, and recall only too well the very first episode way back in November 1963.I tuned in to the Hartnell/Troughton shows, then stopped watching...until just now! Just viewed "Rose"......superb! funny...sharp...witty....scary....brilliant production values...great dialogue......at the age of 47 I am back watching Doctor Who....thank you BBC ! :-) I never expected to see the show return.........its been a long, long time a coming..........but well worth the wait. And now I am looking forward to the remaining 12 episodes, I have seen clips and it all looks absolutely first class. 10/10
Omnibus: Whistle and I'll Come to You (1968)
41 minutes bad......1 minute creepy.....doh!
Well, there it was.......on BBC4 Digital.....I had been waiting for around 30 years for a repeat of this much discussed "masterpiece".....and it wasn't worth waiting for! I recall in my youth the BBC M.R.James Ghost Story For Christmas films, and this was the Big Daddy of them all. What a let down! I found Michael Horderns bizarre waffling dialogue both irritating and pathetic! What the hell was that all about??? I found the floating towel monster on the beach/bedroom pretty creepy......but two chills in 42 minutes marks this down as a real bummer. The towel gave the best performance! And the bedsheets deserve an Oscar.
