The Doorman (2020)
Don't expect a Jean Reno movie
Jean Reno might be beyond his prime these days, but moviegoers remember the time when he was a top actor of French cinema. His name is the only selling point of this ultra-low budget action flick. Not that his presence saves the movie. Everything about it is cheap and ridiculously bad: the fight coreography, the script, the acting and the cliché characters.
It's just sad to see Jean Reno ruining his legacy for a few coins. Don't bother to watch this, you'll have more fun watching paint dry.
The Debt (2010)
Why on earth is Budapest getting sold as Berlin?
This movie was shot almost entirely in my home town Budapest, Hungary — obviously for budget considerations and maybe because Budapest is just as rundown as Berlin was 40 or 50 years ago. I know we Budapest residents represent a minority that's totally insignificant and most of the audience can't even make a difference, especially outside of Europe. But in terms of architecture and overall atmosphere, the two cities are as different as they can be. Budapest doesn't even remotely resembles Berlin — or very remotely at best.
Without reviewing the actual movie, i must say this is a major turn off factor that makes it almost impossible for me to enjoy the movie. This trend of selling Budapest to the audience as cold war era Berlin was set by such movies as Spy Game and Munich, and is now continued by The Debt. Hollywood should just abandon this lunatic idea. It's nothing but a cheap gimmick.
I gave it a 2 and i was overly generous.
