Persona (1966)
The Quantum Physics of Cinematography
I admire this movie and it has had a great influence on the way I judge movies now.
I recall the days we had Quantum Physics classes in University. There is a part of it called the "Observer effect" which leads to the fact that every conclusion made is greatly influenced by the observer and if the observer changes, the result changes as well. That was my personal experience with Persona.
I felt that I was a little part of it, part of each of those women fears, arrogance, vices, prejudices, pain. I found within the movie a frequency of ideas that was equal to the ones floating in my mind, ideas that resonated with me even after its end.
Jagten (2012)
Sophisticated society, Primitive reactions
Firstly I have to say that I am a fan of Mads Mikkelsen and since the film is mainly based on his performance I do like it a lot. So by leaving his great performance apart, so that you will not be forced to read about how amazing his face, voice and interpretation are, I would like to focus on the feeling I had after watching the movie.
One of the elements that I mostly appreciated was the fact that the audience knows the truth from the beginning and every human reaction and event is judged upon that.
Even though we are living in a time of civilized society, when our greatest worries in life are not related to survival issues as they were in the stone age, we react in the same primitive way when we feel threatened. It looks even worse now, because nowadays since the society is civilized we are forced to refrain our reactions and try to justify the violence we use by hiding under the veil of the common sense. I had the feeling we are still living in a primitive way and have found new ways and words to manipulate the truth so we can give to it the meaning we want.
La grande bellezza (2013)
Chekhov's gun
To my opinion the movie shows a great work done by the director , actors and also a great soundtrack, but it lacks a purpose. After watching so many beautiful parts of life, parties, music, love, belief I was not getting the point of why certain elements had to be on the movie. It looks like many elements are inserted there only for the reason of appearing beautiful under a certain light and with a certain music on the background and that's it. I would like to mention here the Chekhov's gun principle that goes more or less like : "If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there." . To me this movie has a lot of pistols hanging on walls and very few of them are fired.
