Tanu Weds Manu (2011)
Tannu Weds Mannu - An average Movie
Tanu weds Manu is an average ,usual Romantic Comedy . It has got a simple mix up, confusion kind of plot with a bit silly yet predictable ending. The movie showed its spark at moments but never really took off. It started at a very a high note the initial comic sequences were very good. A sequence were they go to Vaishnav Devi is very funny and "Gaali" is used in two places very hilariously. The romance in the movie is not evident at all ,infact there is only a couple of romantic sequences. The music was good except the first song which was unbearable but none of the songs was played fully they were played in traces mixed with movie sequences. One of the most romantic song of the movie "Yun Hi" is played only for a minute or two which was disappointing . After a good beginning the movie kinda switch to a steady mode with few good sequences here and there and finally declines towards the end. But its still OK and bearable .
There are no great performances . There are several character in the movie most of them have very small roles. Maddy has got a very easy role of a simple guy and does justice with it .Eventhough Kangana has got an interesting character her role is not very impressive . Kagana comes in a very different avatar never seen b4 and i just hope i never see it again. Her looks are neither cute , beautiful or hot . She looks very ordinary and at places hideous. The costumes and hairstyles add to her bad appearance. Her acting is also pretty uneven . she does a decent job with the comic scenes but slightly goes flat on the emotional sequences .Pappi is a wonderful character played by Deepak Dobriyal . He is the most impressive one in the movie ,he extracts smile out of the audience most of the time and very good to watch . Jimmy Shergil plays a tough guy and the way he looks and dresses very much goes with the character , He does a good job.
Dhobi Ghat (2010)
Dhobi Ghat is Good But Not Great
i have been dying to see this movie ever since its trailer released last year and so there was huge expectation which usually result in disappointment. But, i was more than satisfied with this movie.
Dhobhi ghat i think was made mainly to get the attention of global audience . Most of the dialogs are in English which has been dubbed in Hindi it took me sometime to realize and adjust with that . Its a 1 hour 30 minute movie with no interval or songs to match the international standards.
Dhobhi ghat is a very honest and down to earth movie which portrays the life of four people living Mumbai . I don't want to explain much about the plot and spoil your experience. Its got a very simple plot showed in a brilliant manner. It is not a movie which portrays the poverty or dark side of the city .But it shows the emotional attachment of 4 people from different walks of life to the city of Mumbai. Dhobi ghat is one of those movies which certainly will make it to the list of "best Indian movies" i have ever seen. But it may just miss out on the list of " best movies" i have ever seen . Its great in an local perspective and good in a global one.
Prateik Babbar as Munna is sure to attain many female fan following not because of his looks but because of his expression and the way he delivers his dialog . i could hear the girls sitting behind me say " so cute" few times during film . Its his innocence as the illiterate ignorant washer boy which gets to you.He is only one who make you laugh and giggle in this film
Monica Dogra as Shai is is sensuous even though she doesn't wear any short clothes and has done a pretty good job . She is very expressive but her voice dubbing doesn't go along with it ( it reminded me of the accent of Katrina in Namastay London ).
Kriti Malhotra as Yasmeen reflects the changing moods of Mumbai .Her story is very moving and most interesting .
Aamir as Arun is brilliant as usual even though his role doesn't have a very large acting space and neither is his character the epicenter of the movie . But the way Aamir transform into his character is amazing from the eight-packed Sanjay to the youthfulness of rancho and from there to an ordinary loner Arun.
i cant believe that this is the debut of Kiran Rao she is brilliant as a director. she is able to capture the feel of Mumbai in the movie and extract even the tiny little emotions from her characters .
Dhobhi Ghat is good but not great
