The Lucky One (2012)
Zac Efron steals every scene! Movie about fate, destiny & true love!
SPOILERS:The movie starts out with a 25 year old marine Logan Thibeault played perfectly by a now grown up, filled out and very handsome Zac Efron. He has just survived a night raid in Iraq when he finds a picture of a young woman in the rubble. He decides she is his "guardian angel" and sets out to find her if he comes out alive. After 3 terms of war and after his best friend is killed in action he leaves Iraq for home in Colorado. Logan is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and he is lonely & depressed. He briefly stays with his sister and her kids. He tracts Beth down to Louisianna by a lighthouse in the picture, and WALKS with his dog from Colorado. Which probably took months and hundreds of miles. When he reaches Louisianna he asks about her in a local bar and finds out her name and where she lives. We meet Beth and she has a 8 year old son, Ben, lives with her grandmother and runs a dog kennel. Her bully of a ex husband, is the town sheriff and wants Beth back. Zac Efron plays the troubled, torn and very intense Logan perfectly and steals every scene with his beautiful expressive blue eyes. He is breath takingly handsome with his eyes, his lips, his dark hair and his body. You can't take your eyes off him! He is really what makes this film so special. The movie also has beautiful cinematography and the light of the sunsets & sunrises are amazing. The sound tract is really good, too. Beth's grandmother is charmed by Logan and she gives him a job at the kennel and he rents a house nearby to stay close by. Beth's son becomes instant friends with Logan and they play chess together and Logan stays for dinner a lot where Beth gets to know him. Logan is a kind, sensitive caring man with a heart of gold. Logan does not mention the photo because he can't "find the right words" to tell Beth the reason he came there. Logan is also a very hard worker, can fix anything, and helps out with everything even getting a old boat going again. Their lives all get better when Logan arrives. We also learn that Beth's brother was also a marine and was killed recently and the family is still dealing with his death. Beth resists this handsome, mysterious stranger and watches him from the distance at first, admiring his beauty, then they become friends, go on a date, learn to trust, fall in love and become lovers.I felt the actress that plays Beth (Taylor Schilling) isn't quite right for the part and they lack chemistry and she seems a little old to play opposite Efron. That being said, the love scenes could of been a little better. They start kissing in a outdoor shower and early stage undressing, and we, the audience, see this through shutters which is distracting. They then go to a mosquito netted bed where they make love, there is no nudity. We only see Efron's naked back a few times. Again, it's Zac's eyes and the way he looks at Beth that makes it seem so real, intimate and convincing. It's a tender, beautiful, very romantic scene. Logan becomes more a part of the family even joining Ben at church where they do a duo with their musical instruments with the whole town looking on. The ex husband Keith hates Logan because of his romance with Beth and steals the photo of Beth by breaking into Logan's house and shows the picture to Beth who then confronts Logan about it. They break up. Next we see Logan packing to leave, when a violent rain storm is outside. Keith goes to Beth's to take her son Ben from her and Ben runs to his tree house with rope stairs over a raging, high river. Keith jumps in the water with Beth & Logan not far behind, and Keith grabs Ben and hands him to Logan and then the tree house falls and kills Keith. This ending is too convenient! The bad guy gets killed and out of the way for good and then Beth, Logan & Ben live happily ever after! I would highly recommend this movie. The acting is excellent. It's a beautiful love story against all obstacles. It's all about fate, destiny and true love. After seeing this I wish someone like Logan would walk into my life.
Full Ride (2002)
Very predictable story.
To sum this story up in a few sentences: A teenage girl (Amy) uses her hot body and "supposed" virginity to entice a young troubled guy (Matt) with a potential football scholarship to provide her a "Full Ride" out of town. Come to find out she has quite the reputation & has slept with many football players in the past hoping they would offer her the same deal. Both of these kids have come from troubled & dysfunctional homes. Matt's mothers a alcoholic who repeatedly embarrasses him in front of his friends & Amy's mother had a bad reputation herself & got pregnant with Amy at a a young age. Matt falls in love with Amy & tries to straighten out his life for her. Very predictable ending. The actress that plays "Amy" is actually 33 years old trying to play a teenager!
And I Alone Survived (1978)
Story of survival
This is the true story of Lauren Elder who is the sole survivor of a plane crash in the freezing Sierra Mountains in 1976. The movie holds true to a book published by Lauren.(Which I read).Lauren sets out on a short sight seeing plane trip with two people she doesn't know very well, the pilot Jay and his young girlfriend Jean. Lauren has some premonitions that morning something will go wrong before she steps on the tiny plane. But she ignores her inner voice and boards the plane anyway. The crash happens very quickly and without warning. They crash into the side of the Sierra Mountains. They didn't leave a specific flight plan before taking off & it's hard to locate the downed plane. It seems Jay (the pilot) wasn't very experienced and did not have a lot of flight hours to his credit. After the crash, Lauren has minor injuries compared to the other two passengers, Jean who suffers major head injuries and in a coma, slides down the mountain to her death. Jay who appears OK, has in fact severe internal bleeding which Lauren doesn't realize which makes him act disoriented (they are on a mountain with a high altitude and low oxygen) he doesn't make it through the freezing night. The gas that they are using to keep a fire going on the rocks runs out shortly. Her friends now dead, Lauren believes help isn't coming, and she decides to climb down the mountain to find help for herself. With limited provisions and suffering from shock, injuries and exposer, she suffers hallucinations and she thinks she is seeing people when she isn't. When she does reach civilizations and goes to two motels, people turn her away and won't help her because of her bloody face, odd behavior & disheveled appearance (they think she's on drugs).Eventually someone calls authorities and Lauren is reunited with her father that had been looking for her for 2 days. A remarkable story! Very hard to find this made for TV movie (1978). It has been on the "Superstation" a couple of times.
Flight 93 (2006)
Realistic Portrayal
I liked this TV version better than the theatrical release United 93. I thought the actors who portrayed the terrorists did a excellent portrayal. They were terrifying & convincing. Once the terrorists take over the plane the action does not stop. While watching this movie I actually felt like I was on the plane with them. I was on the edge of my seat & felt the tension building. It shows the passengers at the end actually breaking through the cockpit door & desperately try to overtake the terrorists. One of the last scenes shows a horrific scene of the plane flying up side down and low to the ground before it crashes. This movie was well done, well acted, well detailed & I would recommend it.
Reckless (1984)
Underrated Classic!
Reckless is a underrated, overlooked classic. Movie stars Adain Quinn as Johnny in his break out role & Daryl Hannah early in her career plays Tracey. The movie takes place in a cold, gray, smoggy depressing looking steel town somewhere in Pennsylvania. Johnny is a troubled smart ass rebel with a alcholic father, no friends & a mother who abandoned the family for reasons that are not clear. Tracey is a pretty & popular cheerleader with a loving upper middle class family & is planning on attending college in the fall. But something is missing for Tracey her boyfriend & friends are boring.... She is seeking the danger, excitement & mystery that Johnny can provide. In class they exchange glances at each other. A charity dance pairs Tracey with Johnny by chance. Their chemistry is instant. They fall quickly in love & lust. They can't stay away from each other. They have to have each other. You can feel Johnny's obsession with Tracey. This film contains more than one scene of the sexiest, most graphic, explicit & passionate sex scenes allowed in a R rated film. Full frontal nudity. A excellent Bob Segar soundtrack adds to the film. The ending really leaves it up to you.I would really recommend tracking this film down - it won't disappoint.I would love to see a DVD of this film complete with extra deleted scenes of the couple. This is one of my favorite all time movies.
The Baby (1973)
Bizarre! Very weird!!
The is the strangest, most bizarre movie I have ever seen. "Baby" is a 21 year old man-child. He is kept in an infancy state by his warped mother and beautiful adult sisters who are still living at home, and all on public assistance. Incest is suggested. Some of the shocking scenes are "Baby" being beaten with a cattle prod & a babysitter is caught breast feeding him. A pretty social service worker visits the family on a regular basis to try to find out why they are keeping an adult man in diapers and a crib. As she snoops around, the mother and sisters become suspicious of her real intentions & interest, and try to end the visits with "Baby", which then leads to a climatic showdown. There is a very shocking twist at the end of the film. All along, there was a personal reason the social service worker was interested in "Baby". This is a very disturbing, perverted, though I hate to say, entertaining film. You won't be able to look away even if you wanted to!
A Last Cry for Help (1979)
sad but poignant
This is a very sad movie, well acted, starring Shirley Jones & Linda Purl. The girl in this film appears on the outside to have everything going for her: good looks, popularity, a boyfriend, good grades a nice home-life, but the reality is: she is very sad & depressed in the inside, and her family is dysfunctional. No one seems to understand Sharon's pain. If she has everything going for her, how can she selfishly be so unhappy? When she tries to kill herself her family is forced to attend therapy to understand the issues that are plaguing Sharon. This movie also has lots of great late 1970's music throughout. I would highly recommend this movie that deals so well with understanding depression.
The Party at Kitty and Stud's (1970)
Stallone is hot!
SPOILERS... A very young Sylvester Stallone is looking really fantastic here. You can really see his charm coming out during this film. His body is in very good shape, not at all "over done" like in his later years. He and the female lead in this film "Kitty" seem to really like each other.I noticed in some of the scenes, you see her catching glimpses of him when she does not think the camera is on her. You will notice they "crack up" by mistake during some of the ridiculous phrases. They seem to have a natural "chemistry".Perhaps they were a real couple at the time? This movie was filmed in the winter with Stallone running & tripping in the snow during the opening scenes, he also does some pre "Rocky" moves on a jungle gym. Some of the dialogue is either cut out or dubbed with other words added. Kitty "thinks out loud" and says some really bad quotes. Most of the scenes are pretty ridiculous: Stallone punches his hand through a window and Kitty licks off the "blood", he beats her with a belt while she moans, all the characters talking in a tiny bathroom,(what is the purpose?),Stallone flexing his muscles in a mirror while the "Rocky Theme" plays in the background,at the end is a hippie orgy party. Dancing around naked to late sixties music is big in this film, along with smoking & getting high. You can tell a lot of the scenes were just cut off. A lot of unnecessary, naked, dancing of the women is thrown in, perhaps to replace all the deleted scenes. There are no real graphic sex scenes, just a whole lot of rolling around, which at times is hard to follow. The editing is horrible in this movie. I would say this film is interesting & entertaining if you like Stallone, and if you want to peak your curiosity.
