Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995–1996)
Beautiful
21 January 2005
My Mother bought me the boxset off this that ADV released as a Christmas present last year and I must say I felt like bowing to me saying giving her a thousand thank you's.

This is the best show ever created, the characters are so lovable and their backgrounds are so depressing, this is how all anime's should be made that try to make statements that psychologicly screw you up and keep you glued to the screen, breath taken.

This show starts off on quite a light level and by the end you'll be broken down in tears, and really makes you think about life.

This is a classic in anime.

Chasing Amy (1997)
10/10
Kevin Smiths second classic
21 January 2005
I myself had nothing against Mallrats I thought it was great, but fans were a little "annoyed" shall we say about it and Smith even apologized for making it. So Mallrats is known as his "failure" by many fans.

But then came this what a way to prove he is one off the greatest film makers ever! Chasing Amy is my favourite romantic film. Its hysterical, extremely well written script, great performances, I could go on all night.

I found this little gem on tape in a cruddy car boot sale, and payed £2 for it, I thought to myself "It looks alright, and it is Kevin Smith" but when I watched it I was only half impressed, then a few days later I don't know why but I watched it again and felt like jumping out my bedroom window for not liking it, yes this film really really grows on you.

Fantastic Low Budget Movie!
21 January 2005
I am a huge fan off Kevin Smith, I like every film he has made, he has well written and quirky dialogue in his scripts which make all his characters come to life and become people we can relate with extremely well.

What I love about this film is the fact its such a basic plot, like in most movie (and I don't have anything against this) the characters embark on some huge quest, mission or revenge plan and thats all great but with Clerks. thats what 90% of the worlds population are like, they go to work and hate every single last minute off it and the world constantly kicks them when their down.

This is a landmark in independent film making and should be released on DVD soon in the U.K. God dammit'.

Human Traffic (1999)

Good but no great XxXSPOILERSXxX
15 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
"Human Traffic" was good, but I don't see how people class it as their favourite film.

This is a great directing debut and being a Welsh person myself (so you can't criticize me for what I say!) I found it to be a clumsy film, I mean the relationship between the two friends who fall in love was stupid, I mean he had never liked her before and for the films sake fell madly in love with her other the spam off 4 and a half minutes, the writer should'v done it differently.

All in all, I think the director could go on to better things, an over rated film, great dialog, clumsily written film though.

Unexpectingly Brilliant!
15 January 2005
I myself am not into the "Chav Culture" quite in fact I hate it more than anything...but I must say I borrowed this film from a friend expecting it to be...crap really...God was I wrong.

This is one off the most entertaining films off 2004, its a very gripping film, and (this is for the American readers) is what it really is like in Britain today, people get beaten up by gangs off ruffians for fun everyday in my area.

Great characters in this film ones that you fall in love with and ones you wouldn't think twice about spitting on.

Beautifully Disturbing
15 January 2005
This is the first Darren Aronofsky film I have seen and I think with an accomplishment like this on your filmography you may as well stop film making as Aronofsky as already made a film so brilliant its better that most directors entire career put together.

This is the most disturbing film I have ever seen, a disturbing look at how drugs affect a small group off people, I found the film to start off in a nice if I dare say it way, as we have a great relationship between Marion and Harry which is beautiful and great friendship with Harry and his friend Tyron...and the film gives some crazy message that drugs are good...but trust me come the end you'll be watching complete horror and left disturbed at what drugs can do to people.

Outlaw Star (1998–2001)
light Hearted, Sometimes Slightly Heavy Going anime Masterpiece.
29 December 2004
Outlaw Star is on my top 5 list of favourite anime's even though I've only seen like 14 episodes which I have all taped on video due to Toonami having them on at 4 in the morning.

Overall what I've seen is superb this is a fantastic anime, what I like about anime in the adventure genre they always have great characters which you fall in love with, light hearted comedy, great drama and fantastic action sequences (I'm not reffering to every action adventure based anime by the way just most I've seen are like this).

Outlaw Star never gets boring I find myself being able to watch all the episodes I have over and over and never get sick off them.

10 out of 10 (for what I've seen)

P.S This is a longshot but if the boss of Toonami is reading I know a pile off people who would constantly watch your channel if you scraped all the rubbish shows like Teen Titans, Chris Colarado, He-Man The Masters off the Universe, Batman of the Future, Duel Masters, Beyblade etc. and put stuff like Trigun, Tenchi Muyo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Excel Saga and all the anime classics on.

Audition (1999)

A very haunting piece of beauty.
29 December 2004
This is not my favourite Takashi Miike film, but that doesn't go to say it isn't brilliant which it is.

This film is extremely haunting and starts off like something you'de see in a romantic, drama (which I have nothing against) and seems like Takashi Miike is playing games with us the audience as its deeply disturbing ending and sudden turn off events later in the film. Definitely one for big time fans off shock cinema definitely one to watch alone as watching it with a group off friends who talk would destroy this film.

Over-rated SPOILERS ALERT!!!!
29 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Don't me wrong the idea for this film is very good I was automatically grabbed by the idea that a girl who has been blind who gets he sight back and then see's ghosts without knowing whether their people or not is a very clever. On the extra's on the DVD on an interview featurette one off the producers says a case where a woman who had he sight restored killed herself two weeks after the operation.

The first half hour is quite scary and makes you jump but after that goes downhill as it starts to plonder on and on about some woman who had the eyes before the protagonist and how she killed herself and it becomes a chore watching this movie, and the ending seems like something the Pang brothers chucked in there for a longer running time and it completely changes the mood off this film.

3 out of 10 (this is a great example off how a good film at the start can go horribly wrong)

Gozu (2003)

Wow!!! The best Takashi Miike film I've seen "SO FAR"
22 December 2004
Wow, I saw this in the cinema during the Asia Extreme Season and what a movie. Takashi Miike never fails to deliver a truly shocking piece of work he really does do it.

Visitor Q was truly shocking and darkly funny. Ichi the Killer truly was sickeningly violent and packed with so much sadism. Audition was truly disturbing. Happiness of the Katakuris was truly hilarious and beautiful. (I only go this far cause their all off the work I have seen by Miike.

This however has a dash off Visitor Q added and is truly bizarre, sexually explicit and shocking.

Gozu is about a yakuza member who has a paranoid yakuza brother who one day mysteriously dies when he goes into the nearest restaurant for help then strangeness of the film opens up to you.

Definitely a must rent/buy as its worth every penny, every good review as it is just awesome.

Great Film, A TAKASHI MIIKE CLASSIC
6 August 2004
"Koroshiya 1" ("Ichi the Killer") is another one of Takashi Miike's classics. "Koroshiya 1" ("Ichi the Killer") is a fantastic piece of cinema. It is hugely entertaining and will remain as cult classic forever! Sure its EXTREMLY violent/gory but its just comic gore and I myself found it funny. What I also find funny is, is the fact IMDb classed it as an adult film, Its nowhere near as lame as a PORN film I mean c'mon classing it as a porn film is just an insult I mean sure there are two just TWO oral sex scenes and one rape scene but you see no penetration and no private parts really. All in all this is a really cool film I will admit there is one slightly upsetting scene but thats all. THIS IS A CLASSIC IN SHOCK CINEMA.

Bijitâ Q (2001)
The True Definition of Japanese Satire!
6 August 2004
"Bizita Q" ("Visitor Q") directed by Takashi Miike Japans, well the worlds most busiest director, is a fantastic film. Takashi Miike is one of my favourite film makers and this is just what to expect from the genius he is. Although this film is DEFINATLY not for those who haven't seen a Takashi Miike film before OR a Japanese film. Some of the scenes will seem disturbing to those of you who haven't seen a Japanese film before or hasn't seen a Takashi Miike film. Those of you who have seen quite a couple of Japanese films and are fans of Miike will love this to pieces. I don't want to explain the plot of the film as it's best to let it un-fold.

City on Fire (1987)
Awesome Action Flick!!!
6 August 2004
"Long hu feng yun" ("City on Fire") is a pretty damn cool action film. This film is directed by Ringo Lam and stars Chow Yun Fat. The film is about a cop that goes undercover in a violent street gang, the gang are planning to do a heist aswell. Some really great action sequences in this! definatly one for those who are lover off asian cinema (like myself) have to check this film out.

Quentin Tarantino fans will definatly like this aswell as its what Tarantino played homage to in his smash hit debut film "Resevoir Dogs". I myself need to check out MORE films starring Chow Yun Fat and ones directed by Ringo Lam.

Battle Angel (1993)
What a story!!! [Mild Spoilers]
3 August 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Gunnm is one of the greatest anime's I've ever seen! The story is so great, the story is about a young cyborg who is found in a scrap heap by a professor and is rebuilt. I won't say anymore as its better for the story to unfold on you.

The only one little spoiler here was the fact that Alita's size changed on times like she'd go from normal size to very small. But it doesn't bother me as the story is so great and the characters are all so brilliantly built.

I strongly advice everyone reading this review to take a friendly visit to ebay and get a copy for themselves on video (DVD of it isn't out sadly).

Weird Anime Excel Saga (1999–2001)
I Koshi Rikdo Here by give permission to have a review written on Excel Saga!!!
27 July 2004
Excel Saga is one of most funniest anime's I have seen (Thanks to an anime junky called Karl) Although I've only seen 10 episodes and may get more this week this is one of my favourite anime series!

Its just hard to believe that the woman who does the voice for excel hasn't had her head explode yet. Like many anime series there are 26 episodes and is based on the manga series by Koshi Rikdo.

There are so many lovable characters in this show such as Excel, Princess Hiett, Watanabe, Hiwata, Lord El Polatzo, Nabasheen, Space Butler, Key and many many more (Sorry if my spelling is wrong by the way).

Seriously though if your an anime fan and you have yet to have seen this masterpiece in anime, I strongly advice you to pick up the box set on ebay you will not be disappointed.

Pretty damn cool!
27 July 2004
I watched this feature length anime less than two hours ago and I must say I was impressed. I like "Dragonball Z" the series but I never really get round to watching it much (unlike my younger brother who is a huge fan), I found with this film even if you are not a fan of the show you may enjoy this, as its easy to follow.

I must say I expected this movie to ponder on but I was wrong as it was only on for 45 minutes so it is very short and sweet and I thought that this was a spot on running time for this film.

This film I think is suitable for people of all ages as children enjoy watching the show and older people also really enjoy to see the great action sequences.

Perfect Blue (1997)
My Favourite Anime [So Far Anyway]
16 May 2004
Perfect Blue is probably one of the greatest anime's I've seen so far keep in mind I haven't seen a lot anime is a culture I've just recently started to introduce myself to.

Perfect Blue is fantastic it tells the story of a famous pop singer adored by her fans but decides to seek fame as an actress instead. In order to be more well known the writers force her to star in shocking sequences. She is then haunted by an mirror image of herself which is her when she was a pop singer.

I want to see more of Satoshi Kon's works I must. But I strongly recommend Perfect Blue but if you aren't a huge anime buff don't do what I did and jump head first into the disturbing watch some of Myasaki's works such as Kiki's Delivery Service or Spirited Away.

Appleseed (1988 Video)
Great Fun and Loveable Characters
16 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***

Appurushido is based on a Manga in which I have'nt read yet. The animation in this Anime is beautiful it is a great story with great action and has its fair share of humour my favourite scene is definitely when the cops bust into the apartment to bust some thugs its great stuff.

The only downside to this anime is that it didn't run any longer, it should've lasted at least 90 minutes but aside from that its a great piece of film and anime buffs will love it. Sadly though I saw it on video and didn't get to experience the new special edition DVD of it. But I've been meaning to buy it
