Tropa de Elite 2: O Inimigo Agora é Outro (2010)
Worthy of the "Elite Squad" tag but still not as good.
It's impossible to talk about sequels without talking the original movie. Elite Squad is by far one of the most powerful and exciting flicks made in this decade, to say the least. This movie, Elite Squad 2, grew with a high hype and a name to live for, and to be honest I didn't want to watch it until tons of good comments came from different forums pinched my curiosity.
As the tag says, ES2 has this time a different enemy. A bigger and even more dangerous one. The sequel really changed it focus, action and violence were in the background as politics and dialogs were the mainstream. The result was a movie that make you think, take sides and enjoy. This is the kind of movies that is better to see with some friends to discuss it after.
So, Elite Squad 2 is still powerful and violent, but do not expect a movie like the first one... as we always do with sequels. Still, this movie is enjoyable and has a variety of new stuff that is nice to analyze.
Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011)
Judge it the way it should.
Spartacus: GotA is a lot more complex than people think it is. I believe that the bigger amount of sex and violence make people not to focus as much as they should in the environment of the series.
The dialogs are great, the theming is awesome (you can believe you are at the very Roime!) and acting is decent. These things make the series a lot better than just some muscular guys turning into pieces others and some naughty sex scenes.
Let's be honest: the stuff presented is not really mind-blowing, but it's really entertaining, and that's the purpose of every good series. So let's be fair and stop seeking Schwarzenegger's neurons, we will not find them, we better enjoy the show the way it is.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010)
The HP movie that completely exceeded my expectations.
I must be completely hones with you guys: when I saw this movie announced in the "Opening this week" box, I was not really touched, even tho I'm a HP fan. I disagree with most of the positive reviews from the third movie onwards, the actions, plot and history in those films were changed in a negative wave, resulting in a personal disappointment. They were not bad but something was clearly missing...
However after reading several positive reviews from this movie, a movie from my favorite book from the series, I gave it a chance... and this time, I was not disappointed: David Yates does his very best in this dark thriller with the help of some outstanding performances from Watson(Hermione), Radcliffe(Harry), Fiennes(Voldemort) and Carter(Bellatrix).
The movie develops slowly thanks from being divided in 2 parts, something that the prequels could have used (specially HP6). You enter in a cold adult world, where all character are a lot more serious. The dark mood of this film catchs you right from the start.
I think that most of the changes and cuts from the book here were really smart, plus dialogs are well executed. Something that will really blow you(r eyes) will be the effects... they are stunning. The definition and effort put in every single graphic is visible, I will learn the names from the special effects team, they did an awesome work.
Also, I will point that Yates can make some really emotional scenes, like Dumbledore's last scene in HP6, the last scene of this film touches you deep in your heart.
In the end, we really can't judge this movie as a one, we must see his sequel. The changes Yates made as Wormtails surviving may affect the following picture... a picture I will wait very excited.
Awake (2007)
Good one, but do not over-rate it!
"Awake" is a movie based in a medical issue (definetly an ugly one) with no solution at the moment. But it's not about this issue! It's also about the life of Clayton Beresford (Heyden Christensen), a young millionarie guy with a heart condition, who loves his mother's gorgeous secretary, Sam Lockwood (Jessica Alba).
I will not give any more details about the plot, a smart plot with some nice twists. The cast isn't really great, but Christensen and Alba shines.
Overall, a good thriller, but nothing outstanding, one more movie in the "Wathchable movies" pile.
She's Out of My League (2010)
Laugh until your lungs hurts
Thats the feeling I got after watching this wonderful comedy. My face was stretched and my lungs were hurting because of all the fun I got from seeing this movie.
I really don't care if the plot is not complex and the cast isn't great, it was 100% pure fun of an attractive subject: can an ugly dude with no special relations/money be with a gorgeous and successful woman? how?!
Some scenes will just break you up, you will leave the room ashamed of the character and, in the end, you will end up smiling like you were high, must watch!
La noche de los lápices (1986)
Truth.... hurts.
Argentina is remembering the Nigh of the Pencils today, so I watched this movie. To a foreign person, this may only be the name of this movie or a catastrophe, but for any Argentinian, it's part of our soul, a part that we all are ashamed and we try day after day to prevent to happened again.
Argentina has a slogan for this event "Nunca mas" (Nevermore), and this movie reflects this event and most importantly, the environment this actions were taken and how did they suffer.
This movie is strong and cold, but show's the real experience of this event with a very smart cast, 7/10 but I will add +1 for being national.
