La dame d'onze heures (1948)
To see Paul Meurisse as young actor
I agree with GodeonWay's post on this movie. I'd registered it because I wanted to see Paul Meurisse as young actor and I like to see rare movies on French TV and Pierre Renoir was in the movie too. I saw it yesterday night.
Unfortunately, I am an animal-lover and was not prepared to see the treatment of the kitten in this movie in the middle of the film. SOS takes normally the cat in his arms and a few minutes later he got rid of the cat unceremoniously (on the floor). Just after, the kitten is playing with something on the floor and suddenly dies instantly. After that, SOS put the cat in a briefcase ! I was shocked and I thought the cat was only asleep. But GodeonWay's post deprives me of my illusions. Sadness.
Woman Hater (1948)
This movie is worth a look!
It's a pleasant and pure romantic comedy. The script is stylishly witty. There are many funny scenes in this movie (I let you discover them). As I am French, I was really interested in discovering Edwige Feuillère in an international movie and speaking English!(one of the most famous and talented French actresses). What a good surprise as she speaks in English so well. I suppose this movie was unique in her career. She really looks like a Hollywood star, playing charmingly, elegantly, wearing superb dresses. She gives a fine performance. The director, Terence Young, wanted her in his movie after watching her in Jean Cocteau's film "The Eagle has two heads" (in which she played the Queen Natasha). So, she had to learn English very quickly. Steward Granger is irresistible, alluring, at ease in comedy. The leading support is very good too. Highly recommended for any fan of romantic comedy. I don't know whether this classic movie will be released on DVD one day. So, in the meantime, I keep it carefully on video. As to me, I once saw Madam Edwige Feuillère, on stage, in Paris. What a perfect voice!
Baby Boom (1987)
A classic film now
What bliss this movie ! Everything is perfect in Baby Boom : the screenplay very well thought out (the scriptwriters have a lot of talent and imagination), all the actors (we feel they have given the best of them), and of course Diane Keaton. I think she'd have deserved an Oscar for her performance. My best scene : when she discovers she has no more running water in her country house ! I've just bought the DVD, so now I can watch it in the original language with subtitles in English ! This movie is also very good for improving business English ! Baby Boom is " un petit bijoux' (a litte jewel) and has not become dated.
