Cowboy Bebop (2021)
This is not a 10
Here is a primer for you:
I love the original series, I love The SeatBelts music with passion, and I've worked in animation and film for decades.
Okay... 3, 2,1... Lets check:
Do you like The Fifth Element?
Kill Bill??! Speed Racer???!! Baby Driver???!!!
Jupiter Ascending????! Firefly??!!!!
Even the original Anime? (for real!)
Well, I have really good news for you: It's a really nice and fun series!
The way I see and recognize what they tried to do in this adaptation was to take all the "visual" references from the original series (Pulp, SciFi, Westerns, Mob movies, Noir, Black exploitation, Hong Kong new wave, French New Wave...) and use this as a starting point and references.
And when I say references I mean everything: From location design to acting!
Reading some of the reactions and comments from fans, the impression I have is that they don't know the original references, movies like:
Dirty Harry, Desperado, Shaft, The Killer, Game of Shadows, A Fistful of Dollars... And many more.
The original series was pastiche, there's no way around that. Fans are treating it too seriously.
This is not a 10. But I'm putting a 10 on it because I think it deserves a way better recognition. Making stuff like this work is REALLY HARD:
I KNOW because I have done it.

Fullmetaljacket, but with more humanity and soul
Its one of the best antiwar and violence film/series I have ever seen.
No need for S2 or anything, the ending says it all.
Now I want to read the webtoon that inspired it.
Its beautiful, short, concise and brave.
Koreans are killing it, they are the best at long form film storytelling these days.

The best thing my eyes have ever seen
Before seeing My Mister, I already thought that, in the near future, certain works would have real recognition of their contributions to the Art and Cultures of this world. When I say recognition, I don't say "awards": I mean the study and look that allows us to learn and improve, both as human beings and our work (I'm an artist), as we do today with Van Gogh, Beethoven and Shakespeare.
Most of these "works" I refer to are Korean. My Mister is the culmination of that.
The only times I felt so intensely was experiencing one of the classic examples I gave above:
When I saw a painting by Van Gogh for the first time, when I listened to certain live classical music, seeing an interpretation of Shakespeare worthy of the original text or watching in the cinema The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
My Mister is on another level, I can't think of anything else that can compare beyond the classics. Everything here works in sync: Cinematography, acting, dialogues, photography, rhythm... everything.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who participated in the production.
This is health food for your soul.

This is the "Love Actually" korean version...
...and its great!
I really like Love Actually, from R. Curtis and this is the Korean version. I actually (pun intended) that its better in some ways. What I like the most from Korean movies is the dialog. They are way more "believable" than the usual western stuff. The acting is also great!
Give it a shot!
