Central Park (2020)
Love... love this show!
Animation with a thoughtful storyline tackling modern issues in a large city filled with a wide variety of people. I think it's great! And the soundtrack is awesome too! Musical theater is not my first choice of theatrical performance, but this show has engaging storylines, child- and adult-driven emotional content, and wonderful computer imagery. Season one did not disappoint and season two made me love this show even more. Central Park's season three was worth the wait for me. I hope there's another season! As a former non-native New Yorker who plans on returning to the Big Apple as soon as possible, this show makes being away tolerable, for all the right reasons.
Hjørdis (2015)
Good... but why no transition?
I watched Rita and thought the series was great. Like everyone, Rita had flaws in her character. She was also unapologetic about her views, decisions and needs. However, she was a good teacher and her students and children, in general, were always a priority. She and Hjordis were great mates, advisers and colleagues.
It's true that Hjorids idolized Rita but she was wise enough to blossom on her own with the help of her husband, Uffe, and son, Reinuff. However in Hjordis's own series, they weren't mentioned or seen. I found this deletion jarring without any explanation.
I remember seeing Hjordis's father, though, and they rode bicycles.
Otherwise, I loved both series for their humor, empathy and deftness in handling each episode's storyline.
Spy (2011)
Pure Enjoyment
I just viewed the first episode of this series on WLIW-21/Channel 21 in New York City. I decided to record it on my DVR based on the synopsis provided by Time Warner Cable and also because it followed another program that I love, The Cafe.
I tend to love British TV but did not know what to expect from Spy, and was truly amazed at the solid character development, brilliant acting and the witty storyline. I literally had just finished viewing a limited HBO series, Doll & Em, which starred Dolly Wells and Emily Mortimer, and decided to look at Spy. I did not know Ms. Wells was a part of the Spy cast.
I am so glad that I recorded this episode of Spy. I laughed repeatedly and was riveted to all of the characters. Darren Boyd and Jude Wright are excellent as father and son, and their supporting cast is superb as well.
This program will be on my list of must-see shows to watch on PBS and I look forward to recommending it to my other friends who enjoy smart, fantastic and entertaining television from the United Kingdom.

Pleasantly Surprised
I agree with Russell's summation of this film. In only five minutes, there was a story arc and a completion of that arc. I have seen my share of film shorts and a number of them do not possess the genuine, thoughtful, inquisitive and fluid attributes of this film. The actors acted and reacted with one another with great ease. And the dialogue was something that I, or other people that I know, would hear in many parts of the world. The subject matter was handled in an impressive way. You have two young men who are curious and willing to explore something that they want to know more about with each other. That act requires honesty, trust and respect. The actors delivered the vulnerability of the lines with great skill and I imagine that was not easy to do. I believed what I saw in these five minutes and that impressed me. I cannot say that with many films that I have seen of much greater length. And that fact that the young men continued kissing during the closing credits was an added bonus.
The Closet (2008)
Great Job
I just viewed this short film and thought it was excellent. In less than four minutes, I experienced a beginning, middle and end to a story. The film was well-written, well-acted and well-edited. Filmmaking is a tough business and much praise is deserved for this effort. I cannot imagine the amount of time involved in the creation of this film. This effort goes to show that good work can be of any length. Even though I did not see it in a festival, I agree with the earlier comment about this film. I hope to see more efforts from this filmmaking team. In the past, I paid little attention to short films. I have changed my viewpoint and now realize that it may take greater skills to do a good job with little time. Again, this collaborative effort is noteworthy for many good things and everyone involved should be proud.
