Shining Vale (2022)
Great comedy / horror show
If you're a fan of horror movies, you'll get all of the jokes in this show. If you loved the first season, you MUST watch the second season. If you gave up on season 1, do give season 2 a watch. There's a lot from season 1 the writers are building on. I'm laughing out loud through episodes 1 and 2 and can't wait for the rest. The actors portraying their characters are perfectly cast. Just some of Greg Kinnear's facial expressions crack me up. Courtney Cox is the perfect crazed mom and the 2 kids have some great scenes.
I hope Starz keeps this show going and going... I'm so tired of great shows getting cancelled too soon.
Pelosi in the House (2022)
Good Representation of Pelosi's Career Highlights
I've seen & enjoyed several of Alexandra Pelosi's documentaries & I can add this to one of my favs. This doc covers several ground-breaking highlights of Ms Pelosi's career in politics, giving us a peek into the hours of behind the scenes work of the Speaker of the House. Towards the end of the film, the doc deals with the illegal insurrection by Trump's supporters. This tense time in Ms Pelosi's career was amazingly captured by Alexandra & shows how close we came to our democratically elected government being overthrown. Nancy Pelosi has had a groundbreaking career & Alexandra's documentary provides a loving & insightful tribute to her decades of public service.
Ratched (2020)
Great Paulson and Davis Vehicle
Excellent performances by Sarah Paulson and Judy Davis. All of the performances were top notch including Amanda Plummer. Sophie Okonedo excels in her role. Don't listen to the bad reviews comparing this to AHS. This is 1950's film noir in brilliant color. I can't wait for season 2 to see more of the remarkable talents of Paulson, Davis (my fav), Plummer, and Okonedo.
Devs (2020)
Interesting story, horrible lead actress
The story is interesting and binge-worthy on a rainy day or during a quarantine. I don't see the point, however, for the very, very irritatingly slow pace as this isn't artsy enough to warrant it. I've made it through to episode 7 and every week the actress playing Lily gets more and more impossible to watch. There's no sugar coating the fact she can't act. Everyone else is terrific which puts a spotlight on Sonoya Mizuno's vast shortcomings.
Another Life (2019)
Good news...
No scientists were harmed in the making of this series because not a single scientist was involved! The erratic "we're all gonna die" crew may have been believable in the 1950s but today? Nah. Don't waste your time.
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
If you like Kurt Russell, you must see
Kurt Russell is the best Santa ever. A "must watch" if only to hear Santa sing. A great story for the kids and enough action for all. The ending scenes, as someone else wrote, are very sweet. Very watchable movie.
Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011)
Was hoping the movie might be better than the book
The movie was just as bad as the book: same simplistic plot, self serving moralizing, bad dialogue, but with the addition of bad acting. Ayn Rand's insipid "philosophy" is as hapless as her story line.
Active Measures (2018)
Must See
Even if you've kept up to date on Russia/Putin/Trump, this film pulls it all together in one place. There were multiple things about Putin and Trump I didn't know. Warning: If you're still a Trump supporter who believes down is up and up is down, you'll hate this fact-filled documentary. You've been forewarned.
The Neighbors (2012)
I loved this show
I loved this show and was sad that it lasted only 2 seasons. The characters were fresh, funny and witty without being saccharine. The acting was superb and perfectly casted.
