Island of Death (1976)
Muder, Sex AND PELICANS!
I don't really quite fully understand what I have just viewed. This film was stupid and rubbish. I'm a big lover of the 'video nasties' and have done a lot of research into this film. I watched it expecting some good cheap thrills but got nothing. Not even good camera shots or any plot. Nothing. Just an annoying couple going round some Greek island murdering random people.I know that thats the plot and all but damn it wasn't even that notorious in my opinion. Yes i can see why it was banned but not once did it make me cringe or feel disgusted. I even watched the uncut version on the horror channel, but just weren't feeling it. I just didn't understand the motives behind it. PLUS the acting is just god awful. I mean the British accent the actress uses reminds me of Austin Powers. Was hilarious and killed any factor of any fear or fright.
RIGHT HERES SOME SPOILERS SO IF YOUR STILL GOING TO WATCH THE FILM DON'T READ ON ************SPOILERS************* OK well the deaths in this film were poor. They were too tame for a film that is known for his shocking content! some guy gets sliced up which you don't see, only the aftermath, guy gets hanged which looks terrible sfx, head gets shot but only see brains splatter against the wall for like a millisecond or so. Best death is some women gets her head taken off with some big pusher thing...even then its not amazing.
So much sex in this film its ridiculous! Every second someones being done and most of the time its allowed! Like two rape scenes i think which are terribly acted, it doesn't deliver the shock and disturbed feeling you get from viewing that content.
Just basically if you like video nasties and wanna watch something thats really gonna make you disturbed, steer clear of this piece of rubbish. Doesn't deliver and seems very comical.
There's like a pelican that knocks about and i swear to god, he is the real killer and main character. Best part of the film.
Its a great movie, don't watch it.
The Evil Dead (1981)
Best horror film ever.
I'm 17 years old and honestly, i actually love this film with a passion. Everything about it, the gore, the special effects, the setting, the theme, the plot and the camera work the lot! I first heard about this film when i was about 7 or 8 and we got the game on ps1. After that, the fascination began. Took me a while to watch it as this film used to scare me a heck of a lot. But once i was able to watch it, its been my favourite horror film since. This film has inspired me to pursue a career in media. It might sound odd but honestly this film is that good. If your a fan of the B movie horror films then this should be a favourite. This is the king of B movie horrors. It doesn't have great special effects (at all) but thats why this film is amazing. The over-the-top violence is endulging. Sam Raimi's best film. The camera technique when the camera goes over the rafters is just brilliant. If your a lover of horror films, this is a must. Every horror fan must/would've seen this film! Class!
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Steven, you couldn't just walk away could you
I love Indiana Jones, used to watch it all the time with my family on TV then got the trilogy. Brilliant films. I'm all up for reprises of famous iconic film heroes. Loved Die hard 4 but this just wasn't good. it just seemed extremely silly and far fetched. This wasn't Indiana film in true spirit. I am highly disappointed. It had a few good moments but even then it was still stupid. It had too much special effects in it and it ruined it. All the father and son jokes are so cringe worthy. To be honest, there's so many cringey moments. You got these killer ants knocking about and monkeys which help their lives at one point. And then ending? Aliens? And who can forget, the god awful wedding. Steven and George, just stop.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
I'm team Charlie
I was dragged to this by my girlfriend and was thoroughly dreading it. I'd seen the first one and really didn't like it. I gave it ago, and really didn't like it. I haven't seen the second one but i was filled in on what i've missed. Eclipse wasn't very good. It was what i was expecting and to be honest i really did give this one a go since my girlfriend really wanted me to like it. I don't like the authors conception of Vampires and Werewolfs. Werewolfs are like in American Werewolf in London but in this its just really soppy and not scary. And vampires are like From Dusk till Dawn but once again in this are really soppy and tamed. They could of made the villain vampires a lot more fearsome. I'll give this film one thing though, it had some great action scenes! The big fight was thoroughly enjoyable and did make me say 'Yeah! Go Edward!' If you really enjoyed the series, then i recommend but if you just fancy seeing this film, don't have high expectations.
August Underground (2001)
Wait.....What?
August Underground. One Word: Poo. Seriously, i was expecting myself to be turning away in disgust and feeling sick. But what i saw...well bored me senseless. I read so much about this film and it didn't deliver. I'm so disappointed. This film is not worth watching, it's so much pointless violence and filth, with no plot, just two very mean people doing very mean things. Cannibal holocaust was worse than this and that was made in the 80's. Seems that Old Skool won this time! OK now i go on to spoilers to complete my rant, so to those who want to view this piece of crap don't look.
Its a great film, don't watch it.
***********SPOILERS************** OK so our two main characters are turds. They think they're hilarious but they're not. At the start the fat guys says to his partner 'Your gonna love this' and then it was a tied up bloody woman, and they started laughing. He sounded like an elf. Really annoying after a while. Then the fat guy shows the body of the boyfriend to his mate. Which his mate asks, 'Wheres his penis!' and starts laughing. Not funny really? Just a bit annoying. Then like, they pick up some woman who they approach her saying 'Hey sweetie'. It's the middle of the night, and she still got in the car with two guys. Fool. Then they get her to flash and its like wow, you saw a pair of boobs, don't get all giddy. Then the bit in the supermarket it just gay. 'SNIFF HER ARSE!' So you kill people, rape them and stuff, and you evil plan is to sniff they're bums. Smells beautiful i bet. Then ending, if i had taken it seriously, was pretty like disturbing but its over so quickly i didn't take it in and the killer like, stops raping her pulls up his pants, and carries on smacking her over the head? He was like 'OH CRAP' its like you don't feel remorse? What? This film is stupid.
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Worth it
I'd heard of this film through various sources, some being from reviews, from friends and from books (e.g cult movies etc) and with every source, came a warning. When i see a warning, it just makes me want to watch it more. I'd read nearly everything about the film so i knew what to expect...but it still disturbed me. This was my first Vipco's vault of horror film and i watched it with my friend who i'd told. As much as i knew it was only a film and the acting was fairly laughable, the special effects had the film looking like a snuff flick. I understood why it was under investigation from police. There are various scenes in the film, which get carved into your mind and you can't forget. I liked how it was filmed, the style, really added to its effect. Its filmed as a documentary off explorers cameras. similar to the style of Cloverfield but without all that shaky camera business. The main theme, love it. Really made me feel so uncomfortable. For an old early 80's film, this film delivered a shock, that made Hollywood films like Saw and Texas chainsaw massacre look like the Teletubbies. This film is a definite win, if your up to been shocked and very disturbed. Not for the squeamish and definitely not for children.
This is just my opinion but for just an average horror fan, this really was a superb horror flick. Just remember, this was ONLY a film.
