Father Brown: The Queen Bee (2020)
Queen Boring
This episode wasn't up to the standard of even the later seasons, which are far less good than the early ones.
The murder victim isn't very credible in het own right, let alone the way she was portrayed and the way she was victimised. Her adopted son is rather boring as well. The girl next door is the only interesting character, really. Even Father Brown wasn't particularly good in this one. The guilty party was rather obvious from the start.
Hawaii Five-0: Imi Loko Ka 'Uhane (Seek Within One's Soul) (2013)
Portraying Five-0 as Realistic Ruined this Episode
This episode was boring to watch and made me feel awkward and annoyed. I love this show, but this episode completely ruined it. The whole idea of following someone around at work makes it seem like they are trying to say Five-0 is a realistic thing. It is not. I don't like the show for its reality, because it has none; the whole idea of a task force with full immunity and means while fighting crime is nonsense. I like the show for the interaction between Steve and Danny, and for the energy and speed of the show. Many things that happen on the show are complete and utter nonsense. For example, they had a reality show follow a police force around in combat circumstances. That would never happen.
In short, trying to portray Five-0 as a realistic thing only points out the bad side of the show, whilst making it impossible to show its positive traits. It ruins the show.
I am very disappointed that such an important event as catching Wo Fat was portrayed in this episode, because having to watch the story through the camera of some annoying talk show host means the viewers are unable to see any emotion within Five-0. It keeps from being drawn into the story. In fact, I did not really follow the story, because I was distracted from it by the annoying talk show thing.
Stolen Child (2012)
Bad script, bad acting
This movie deals with a very important issue, but at the same time makes the viewer tired to talk about the subject anymore.
First of all, the director certainly doesn't know his geography. Typically American to know nothing about the world outside of the States. They talk about Chisinau, which is in Moldova. Yet, the phone is answered in Spanish, and 'Amanda' then says something in Italian! Also, the birth certificate is in German, which is not spoken in Moldova.
But that is not the worst aspect of this movie. The whole thing is simplistic. Corners are cut everywhere, which makes the storyline sound like it was written by a twelve-year-old. Furthermore, the acting was horrible. 'John' was obviously just put in there to be pretty, because he can't act at all. 'Amanda' was a little better, but still not at professional level. 'Tatiana' seemed to have been taken right out of a children's movie of very poor quality. The only one who could be a tiny bit credible is 'Amanda's father'. The rest of the actors were abysmal.
The scenes that were supposed to give the viewer a certain emotion were too fake to do their work. I had no emotion with this movie except frustration with the bad script and the bad acting. And I am someone who starts bawling with the first hint of emotion in a movie.
Mockingbird Don't Sing (2001)
Good movie, unprofessional producer
This is a very compelling movie, and I definitely recommend watching it. However, I also recommend reading up on what happened to "Genie", because, even though Mr. Bromley-Davenport chewed Sylvia Marciniak's head off in a very unprofessional manner because she called the movie inaccurate, the fact remains that parts of the movie are indeed inaccurate. He blames Ms. Marciniak for saying things after just one class even though he has no idea how much she knows about the subject; she may know more than he does. If that is the quality of the research he does, obviously, Mr. Bromley-Davenport is not very good at doing research. This is also shown by the fact that his research for this movie took him three years and still he didn't have his facts straight. For example, Dr. Glazer and his wife are depicted as people who do not care about Katie at all. According to the movie, on the same day the grant was discontinued they already found new living quarters for her so they would not have to take care of her anymore. This is not true; they cared very much. I agree that Dr. Glazer could have and should have done a much better job, and he shouldn't come up with excuses either, he just messed up in that respect; but he did care.
Yet, this is a movie about a difficult and ambiguous topic and I still regard it as a job well done.
White Lion (2010)
Would Have Been Good Without the Narrator
I eagerly awaited the arrival of the DVD, so I could watch the movie Kevin Richardson had been talking about in a documentary. I thought: this will be great.
Indeed, some of the shots were magnificent. They would have been great in a documentary. However, the narrator of this film speaks in such a soporific tone I found the whole movie extremely boring. If they would have chosen a different narrator, or would not have let the narrator tell the whole story, but instead would have let the characters actually play more of the story than only the last 20 minutes, this whole movie could have been so much better, and they wouldn't have had to try and make it look exciting by letting the children react certain ways. These reactions were not very convincing, by the way, nor is any of the acting, which is of elementary school level. The music is fine, but seems like a waste, since the movie is so stodgy.
After 70 minutes, it feels like the introduction is still going on and the story still has to start. Still, hardly any connection has been made between the two main characters, Gisani and Letsatsi. Finally, the narrator shuts up at times, which means the movie starts to show some progression. Still, it stays rather boring.
In the end, this movie will not make anyone enthusiastic for saving the lion or any wildlife. It will only make people think wildlife is boring.
MacGyver: The Ten Percent Solution (1989)
Good Episode; Casting Not Great
This episode sheds a light on the evil that is still plotted in this world. It raises awareness on how much is going on beneath the surface of our society.
The storyline I think was well thought of. The casting, however, could have been better. For example, Sam's German has such a thick American accent that he cannot possibly have been a Polish survivor of a concentration camp. He only has to say 'Jawohl, Frau Brandenberg', but instead he says 'Brandenburg' and pronounces the r in an American instead of a German way. Frau Brandenberg herself has a great German accent though.
The whole idea of hiring people to make the streets dangerous in order to get elected could have been more clear. For the rest, it was a good story. The ending was good as well; indeed we have no idea how this ends, as much of this is still going on in secret.
Forever Young (1992)
Quite Enjoyable, Most of the Acting is Good
This movie also shows a man who thinks he lost all that gave meaning to his life, but finds the meaning was not gone in the first place. It is a touching love story.
This movie also shows how a boy would want a man he meets as his father. The man comes into his life, and he knows nothing about his background or history, but he knows he is a friend.
This movie is quite enjoyable if you want an evening of simple entertainment that does have some meaning to it as well.
The whole idea of freezing a person to preserve him for later was new at the time. The movie shows it does work, but that it is not a solution after all.
The acting by Mel Gibson and Elijah Wood makes it a very nice movie to watch. It is too bad they put Robert Hy Gorman in it as well; his acting is absolutely terrible.
All in all, great brilliance should not be expected, but the friendship between the boy and the man gives a warm feeling. The love story between the man and the woman has a sweet-and-sour taste to it, since they do find each other again, but will not get to spend very much time together anymore.
The Dictator (2012)
Worst movie of the century?
We watched the entire movie without even grinning once. It is not even remotely funny. The jokes are distasteful and lack every and any humour. It even jokes about the Munich massacre of 1972. That is not funny, that is disrespectful and in poor taste. The acting is awful; it makes you wonder if these people had any training in acting at all. The movie has many distasteful scenes. Also, it portrays stereotypes in a way that is very worrying. Our advice: throw it in the trash. Do not watch this. It is no fun to watch and a complete waste of time and of all that money, which could have been spent so much better. This movie only makes you feel bad about the extremely low standards in movie world.
Bridesmaids (2011)
Not hilarious, but boring and nasty
Whereas the cover says it is hilarious, it is not. Not once did even a tiny smile appear on our faces when my friend and I watched it. It was so boring that at some point, my friend took off multiple times to make tea, wash the dishes, hang out the wash, et cetera, just so she would not have to watch.
The rivalry the cover speaks of is not at all funny. Instead, it is nasty. It brings an uncomfortable atmosphere to the movie. It is all about how selfish these girls are.
The main character is no fun at all. She is boring to watch and has no appeal whatsoever. The other characters are not very attractive to watch either. There is no fun, no humor at all in this movie; only selfishness and egotism.
You can be certain to lose your good mood if you watch this movie.
I Am David (2003)
Entertaining and Touching, Not Well Cast
Loved this film, though it does not stay close to the book. One thing I love about it is the mix of serious and humorous moments. This enables the viewer to see he is just a boy as well.
The story touched my heart, since we see a boy who is lost because of everything that has been done to him. He trusts no-one, and yet he does.
The ending was not surprising to me. Watching the start of the movie made clear to me how it would end.
I loved the music. It is close to my personal taste.
The boy was not very well cast I think, since he looks very British and is therefore obviously not Bulgarian. Also, his acting is not the best. All in all this makes the movie worth the watch, but not one to watch over and over again.
In America (2002)
Not Very Creative
It is not a very bad movie. But it does not make much sense either. Frankie fell down the stairs, or later on they say he climbed the gate. But that is not what he died from, he died from a brain tumor. So what is all the stair fuss about? And what is the meaning of all the loose scenes of stuff happening? There is no real story to speak of, except that of making an effort to get over the loss of a child. But even that is not depicted very well.
Furthermore, no parent, especially one who has lost a child before, will let their child enter the house of a madman like Mateo appeared to be. They would not let their children go off by themselves to knock on the doors of junkies to go trick-or-treating.
The man dying while the baby lives is pretty much a cliché. Anyone could have thought of that. The tear-drawing hopefulness and prayers, and the wishes the girl makes are touching but not very creative. The hospital bill suddenly having been paid by Mateo is also a disappointment - it just is too easy a solution.
And how come the child and the mother both survived, even though the doctors had clearly said this would not happen? Another case of 'if you want it enough, it will happen'. That is disappointing. Real life is not like that. This made the movie into a feel-good-movie after all.
All in all, the movie appears like a wanna-be-extra-special movie, which actually is not that special or creative. This style of movie is far from innovative anymore. The movie just ends up missing a good plot and looking quite like a standard movie.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Bad casting, bad acting, bad everything
After having waited eagerly to be able to see it, I was immensely disappointed by this movie. In fact, I would not even call it a movie. It is simply a series of clips of which their interrelation is neither clear nor obvious. If you do not know the story, it is impossible to understand it, because the storyline is missing. On top of that, it is actually boring, while the animated series always kept me curious and interested.
Throughout the movie, the colours are too dark. Everything is given a grey and dreary look. The characters either portray the wrong personality or none at all, and do not even know how to pronounce their own name.
Where is the energy, where is the cheer, where is the humour portrayed by the excellent animated series? It got eaten up by bad writing, bad casting, and bad acting. A bunch of twelve-year-olds could have done a better job producing it. It was a complete waste of time and money.
