The Pleasant Valley War (2021)
Fascinating, Tragic Story
It's stunning that so many people on both sides perished in this senseless feud. Mills brings this compelling story and fascinating characters to life, infusing a feature film with documentary-style narrative with panache and expertise. The cinematography is top-notch and the music sets a somber mood reflecting the events of this inexplicable tragedy...
Final Account (2020)
Stunning
The masses of people can commit horrific atrocities when such acts reach a level of acceptability. Who among us has the courage to say no? The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately evil...
Bastard's Crossing (2021)
Western Psychological Thriller
The first half of the film establishes the characters and the setting, but we're not sure where any of the plotlines are leading. Later, the film accelerates, events begin to spin out of control, and life becomes chaotic. A bit of a new and novel twist on the western genre, an entertaining and engrossing film...
Driven (2019)
Buckle Up!
I've always enjoyed comedy horror films (Rocky Horror, Beatle Juice are some of my faves), so this film interested me, although I wasn't sure what to expect. Another genre I would add is suspense as many of the scenes methodically build to a climatic crescendos. Some viewers may feel a little claustrophobic inside the female protagonist's car, but this was for me part of the film's appeal: you feel like you're actually in the vehicle, sharing the two leads' experiences, reluctant to leave the secure confines of the car because of the evil that may be lurking outside. Both leads were convincing in their roles although I was initially somewhat annoyed by the acrimony between them. I eventually warmed up to them and even found myself empathizing and become emotionally invested as each began to lower their defenses and work as a team. I don't want to spoil the ending, so I will close by saying that if you watch this film, buckle up because it's going to be a wild and crazy ride!
The Dinner Party (2020)
Bring You Appetite for Death
Entertaining and engrossing film. And thanks for not doing that shakey cam nonsense! Superb acting, editing. The sound could be improved in spots. Great film!
False Colors (2020)
Entertaining yet accurate film...
As a retired intelligence officer, I was impressed by the accuracy and credibility of this film. The acting and stunts were also superb. Several plot twists add to this film's appeal and I'm surprised no filmmaker to my uncertain knowledge has explored the geo-political angle running through William Norton's plot. Kudos to him for tackling such an ambitious project in his first feature and I'm intrigued about his future films as well as whether he'll attempt a sequel to False Colors...
Help! My Gumshoe's an Idiot! (2018)
Entertaining and funny film!
Cerebral humor, spot-on acting! Biff Basham and some of the others could use some additional character development, but I suppose mystery is part of the story line...
Durant's Never Closes (2016)
Fascinating Story About a Larger-Than-Life Character
Based on the life story of the founder of Phoenix's most iconic restaurant, the viewer is given glimpses of the complex and multi-dimensional personality of an enigmatic character who three decades after his death, still remains shrouded in mystery. The film will entertain viewers and perhaps leave them with more questions than answers... Philip L.
