Open Water (2003)
Scared the Hell Out of Me!
I hate to be the lone voice of liking this movie, but I absolutely loved it.
In this day in age where people want their scares to jump out of a closet or chase after you wielding a knife, this movie played with your mind by NOT letting you always know what is out there. With the rising and falling waves, we catch glimpses of what lurks under the water for a few seconds but that's all. The isolation of being in the middle of nowhere and no real way to get away. In the same vein as The Blair Witch Project, it shows that our worst fears lie in our own imagination. I was out in the water with those people and I jumped when a shark bumped them or grabbed the arm of the seat when they were stung by jellyfish. One last thing, for those of you who said that this is not a true story, why don't we think of the people daily who try to swim to American shores from places like Cuba. A lot of them go through the same thing as the couple stuck in the middle of the ocean with nothing but hungry sharks.
You Wish! (2003)
A Very Nice Surprise!
Sometimes you are sitting around flipping through the TV channels and come across something and it peaks your interest so you watch it not expecting much. I must say that in the end, I found this movie to be a pleasant surprise. Now I would hardly call this a 'movie event of the year', but I definitely liked it. AJ Trauth is the cutest and does a good job playing a boy who wishes his brother away and later finds out that his life was better with his brother in it. I recorded this movie to keep it and would buy the DVD if it came out. My recommendation is to give it a chance and I think that you will like what you see!
