Peaky Blinders: Lock and Key (2022)
Rating for a disappointing season
I cannot believe this was the last season. It was abismal. I understand that the characters evolve and the tone of the series changes, but this was not that. This is bad writing and directing. Do not try to justify it with some artistic scapegoat. I was hoping for a great series finale following a masterpiece in season 5.
Pacing was terrible all season. Still brutal, undermining the character's arc. DP trying to steal the show instead of serving the show. Predictable deaths. And lots of loose ends that stain the legacy of the series just to aim for better financial gain in the upcoming film. What a waste.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Alloyed (2022)
Pretty bland season, but ends on a high
The season finale feels much more tolkienesque than the rest of the episodes combined. It leaves me a trail of hope of what's coming
Although I was quite disappointed with the previous episodes, I enjoyed so much the last one. It didn't have any bad acting, the use of cgi was spot on (except for one cheap trick when the wizard fights the witches), there was good pace, and the overall feeling is that it made sense.
It brought back so many memories. There was tension, good editing and storytelling, and great music.
I hope they can continue the beat, and keep improving and finding their voice next season.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 14: The Tragedy (2020)
Lazy poor writing
When your character can avoid the conflict, the audience can as well.
Mando could have easily stayed with the Baby on the top. And the jetpack being left behind felt a rushed solution to advance plot.
And what about furthering the idea that Storm Troopers never convey any sense of danger in the audience. No matter how many there are. They ALWAYS miss target, only hitting when someone is wearing the mighty beskar.
I enjoy the visuals and art design in the series, but can't stand cheap storytelling. The only reason I have been watching, is because my wife loves Baby Yoda. Cheap treat to a great franchise.
Mulan (2020)
Flop in every sense
The only true emotion I could feel throughout the movie is sadness for all the great artists involved in the world building of the movie. The makeup, costumes, art and scenery was amazing. It is a shame it really fell short to achieve a coherent and well paced story. The directing was terrible, the editing felt rushed, the performance of most actors was lame (except from the lead, she was great), and overall the story felt soulless. If you want to really honor a culture and female power, just do a great movie.
