Billa 2 (2012)
Billa - GOD in their agenda!
If you've played GTA or MAFIA kinda games, you'll be irritated to watch this movie! To be frank, David Billa moves around with all freedom after the number of murders he commits(even it can be excused!) But, he executes everyone just like that! To be precise he plays 'GOD'. The movie started well after the credits. It traveled well until Billa joins ANNACHI. After that it gets predictable and monotonous. Sometimes certain scenes won't even stand to our predictions, don't get too excited, The fact is that it's worse than that! So when you start to predict, If you wanna be right with your prediction then expect the next scene to be very normal and the twists implied to be the twists during stone age cinema. The camera was good. All the scenes are the same and that is - BILLA kills boss to be the boss! Only the character artists and locations are changed! They've tried the SIN CITY type in one song which I'd say was indeed new and nice! Ajith plays his part well...Camera was nice, so were the locations. Costumes at certain places were inappropriate, Otherwise it was savvy. Editing was simple and nice. Technically the movie was good. The pre production wasn't effective enough I guess. Bad screenplay alone lets the movie down. One thing is evident from movies like these- They're not allowing the audience to grow! When this kinda taste prevails among the audience, I'm afraid even Great movies like THE GODFATHER (Francis Ford Coppola) won't stand tall! .... SAD!
Deiva Thirumagal (2011)
With love, Krishna
I luckily got two tickets yesterday for Deivathirumagal(Inspired by I'm Sam). The movie kick-starts with the VIKRAM FEVER. Seriously, this guy is like some kind of a virus and you just can't stop liking that virus whatsoever! hats off! The Ups are more comparatively in this movie. Even a few minor errors have been vanished by the strength of the positives! The movie has two halves and definitely the first half is better than the second half because there are lot of vikramless scenes in the second half! Okay now let me categorize
UPS: -Vikram's acting
-Anushka's bold acting and Nasser's maturity at times help!
-GV's Music- Really a strength. It made many scenes particularly KRISHNA-NILA interactions lively!
-Krishna-Nila interactions and situations
-Humor contents with M.S. Bhaskar and Vikram, Santhanam's comedy scenes at the beginning.
-Screenplay's strength when Vikram's on focus.
-Camera in OOTY
DOWNS: -Vikramless scenes in second half were lengthy.
-Krishna friends' acting
-Shweta's(amala paul) dad- God help his acting!
-Editing- Cuts could have been more crisp and movies like these need slow editing like passing, not cut and a start!
-A few logic damages.
-Dialogues in the courtroom should have been powerful. -Unnecessary song VIZHIGALIL!
-Camera in Chennai.
Had these minor perfection missing scenes were corrected the movie would've been equal to I'm Sam
Still a great film carried by VIKRAM!
Ko (2011)
Godspeed! too much!
Released during the time of IPL, this film has matched the speed of IPL! Now having said that, what's the necessity for such a speed in a screenplay that has to be quite steady and realistic? The writer has added a lot of commercial value to a COULD'VE MADE WELL SCRIPT.
The beginning of the movie itself makes us to sigh! Do bank robberies take place that easily? If yes, then at least it should have been directed well! And is there a difference between JIIVA's bike stunts and Vadivelu doing a stoppie with Tamannah in THILLALANGADI???And in India do the newspaper publishers work that way???(ASS,KRISH) all those stuff trying to imitate Hollywood was totally artificial. Wherever you go i'll follow is not vodafone's quote! it's actually is JIIVA's untold truth in this movie..wherever,whatever the problem maybe JIIVA-the photographer will be there to snap a few..comeon yaar give it a break! KV Anand is one of India's best cameraman, but in his film why the camera is handled so worse, I think KV should have stuck with the camera too. In the climax why doesn't Jiiva understand AJMAL? Let it be a shortcut, now that a qualified ministry is formed why would jiiva wanna risk it? Like this, lot of lags in Screenplay!
As for as acting is concerned Jiiva and Ajmal both have done their job well! Kota srinivasa rao and PrakashRaj have been wasted! Editing was very ordinary. When ANTONY shows up in a scene-god,help me!what an acting sirji?? Harris impresses in ENNAMO ETHO alone!
The movie would've been fine if the director had finished it with SIRAGUGAL's win and added few details and steadied the screenplay! The director's mistake is that he has attempted to make a 4hour film in two hours which is missing a lot! Still I'm giving it a 5 only because of the Idea of youngsters coming into politics! When compared to AAYUTHA EZHUTHU which is quite similar, KO sucks!!
Yutham Sei (2011)
Direction spoils a world-class Screenplay!
When I write more and more reviews I realize that my knowledge about cinema grows too! Though YUTHAM SEI is a very well made script, it has failed to impress at certain places. Mysskin's ANJATHEY was kinda the same story but it was executed well. The mistakes done by the Director in this movie is that he tries to carry over the same methods and techniques that he implemented for ANJATHEY. Editing at a few places were nice. Camera and BGM hasn't helped the movie a bit to carry the tempo!
When an investigation is depicted as a movie the screenplay tend to be slow at certain places. I figure that MYSSKIN got those places wrong! Unnecessary lengthy shots placed in certain sequence wasn't really impressive. For instance, Instead of showing a girl walking 50 yards, he could've used that kinda shots in the climax gun fight sequence which would have increased the thrill, I suppose. The good thing is that the movie is very detailed which is required for this kind.
An Important aspect of a movie is that everything should be on frame. In certain shots I had to bend down to see what is actually happening and I realize that the screen is over...oops! So, now you know how was the camera works and the so called tricks. The acting department could've done better given the scope they had. Inspector ESAKKIMUTHU and JUDAS alone impress in acting. Better luck next time MUSIC DIRECTOR!
Ultimately, MYSSKIN has proved that just with a good investigative and detailed screenplay alone a movie can't succeed. It has do be made well too.. A good written work executed very normally to get only a few good scenes on screen from paper! I'm giving it a 6 only because of its written work!
Avan Ivan (2011)
Avan Ivan- Bala's carelessness!
Wasn't like a BALA film! It seems Director BALA decided to take a break and has did this film just without seriousness I guess. He hasn't worked well with the screenplay(the van worth a crore inside it!). The direction just doesn't have the perfection required for the powerful characterization! And the characters had a lot of scope and no one did well. As if BALA was satisfied with the first take alone and didn't wanna go for another take. I mean there were situations where the actors could've given their best. for instance, when VISHAL performs on stage in front of actor SURYA...Did he really deserve that kinda applause? If you call that as some fabulous acting that brings tears to your eye, then what will you call the performance by VIKRAM in PITHAMAGAN after SURYA's death??? If you ask me I'll say that VISHAL did well in the climax and the opening song alone..since he risked his eye, does that mean that there's no need to put extreme effort in acting? He did well but should've done better! Aarya did not have much scope comparatively, He did his part. GN kumar and the rest of the cast definitely should have done a lot better. Music was sick!Unnecessary BGM results with inaudible dialogues and Yuvan should have played a bit emotional musics whenever necessary..so there's no feel for any! Editing was idiotic ending a movie just like that? It seemed to me like BALA knew all of the mistakes in the movie and just went with it! One thing is for sure, This 'll be the worst of BALA's .....HOPEFULLY!
Payanam (2011)
A steady ride!
Today, when myself and my friend entered the theater, the first few rows were empty but I still had faith in RADHAMOHAN,well he hasn't failed to deliver! A well made movie and the best part is that it doesn't have a single song:)that's something great about the film. It shows that only when a person who loves cinema, produces a film it'll come out well as Prakashraj has done in this film.
Casting was nice and apt! A separate comedy track travels throughout the film mocking nowadays' unrealistic tamil films. For,the very first time in a tamil film the public(hostages)have reacted instead of just sitting and watching the show! So, as far as the acting department is concerned, everybody did their job perfectly!!
Editing was nice except for the title sequence, it made me not to look at the screen. Art work is excellent:)the plane and the Tirupati Airport's set was almost like the original.
Only 8 because of the BGM and bad sound mixing and sound editing and for terrible CG works:(.But still the steady first half and the racy second half makes the movie HOT!!!!
Virumandi (2004)
The Best!
This movie is the best one in Tamil.Virumandi shows how much effort had Kamal Haasan put in. Everything was perfect in the movie. Right from the casting to the directing ,everything was mindblowing. Especially the style of the movie was great-Depicted with two narrations this movie will just sweep you off your feet! I would say that Kamal Haasan is a better Director than even Maniratnam. The Bull fight sequence was equal to the making of Hollywood standards!Usually, I used to criticize most of the Tamil movies for it's screenplay, editing and the making but for this movie i just couldn't. Had given a good producer, Kamal would've taken Tamil filmdom to Hollywood! Guys, this movie is worth a million watch!!!
Enthiran (2010)
Not satisfying at all!!!!
This movie created a lotta buzz before it's release, but i should say that this movie surely didn't live up to the expectations. When you finish watching the movie all you're gonna have in your mind is "man...did they really spent 160 crores for this movie???". I think director Shankar should've waited a little longer instead of settling for SUN pictures. I'm sure that the director will not be satisfied and he should've used some car stunt director for that car chase sequence, man...that was terrible!EDITING SUCKS throughout the movie! I donno why all the people in the cine field are speaking so polished about this film at least they should stop comparing it to the Hollywood standards for god's sake!!!I've given 5 for this movie only for Rajni's acting and the attempt to do a sci-fi film(though it's a copy from several holl movies)!!!!
Kalavani (2010)
Fun throughout!!
Wanna have a great feel free day??Then, definitely you can watch this movie! Set on the life of a youngster in Tanjore, this movie just reflects the people ,atmosphere, flavor and many more of villages down the south on screen! When my dad suggested that we'll watch kalavani, i wasn't really convinced. But, when the movie started and before it could complete 2 minutes i said to my dad that"this is your best suggestion";). Saranya was awesome as usual. I would say that she's the best female actor in the industry. As far as acting is concerned everybody did extremely well. Doesn't seems to be the first film for the director Sarkunam, He's shown reality with fun! That's the best part of the movie. Camera work was great. Simple cut shots during editing is always gonna earn a good name for the editor as it has in this movie! The music was also great. The crew should be proud of themselves for being a part of the movie. You won't stop laughing even if it's the fifth time you're watching the movie!!!
Aadukalam (2011)
Different halves!
Well, this movie is very new to the audience. I would say that technically the movie was great except for the editing and bgm during the rooster fight sequence. Dhanush's acting was marvelous. Casting was apt. The movie was nice up till the interval other than the scene in which Dhanush cuts his hand to prove his love, and the song followed by that! I think that wasn't much realistic. Second half is actually the beginning where Director Vetrimaran got mixed up with the steadiness of characterization and logic which is proved when both Karuppu and Durai doesn't listen Pettaikaran during the rooster fight but in the second half they(karuppu & Durai)simply follow whatever Pettaikaran tells. And nowadays Tamil heroines are always in love with a person who doesn't have a job, who has no idea about his future or even don't think about it. It's now has become a cliché. Come on directors, girls aren't like that, they're wise too. This movie is not even close to this team's previous work polladhavan. Anyway since this movie is first of it's kind for the Tamil audience and for Dhanush's acting,it's worth a watch!!!
