Alexandra's Project (2003)
Exceptional
Close to 60, my wife and I are cinema lovers. We watched this movie having no idea nor having read any critics about it, in short nothing to skew our viewing. Both of us have yet to recover from it ? You can't watch this movie and expect to be the same after. Under an appearance of shocking crudeness, we see realities of life..... Sensible and prude souls should avoid this movie. The performance of both main actors (H. Buday/G. Sweet tandem) is unreal. Probably the role of their life! I've no idea if any award was attributed to this movie or its crew but it is the next thing I'm going to search on this site....
OVERALL RATING: Probably amongst the best film we've seen in the last few years. Cinema with a capital "C".
Good viewing
About Schmidt (2002)
I lack words to express such a waste of talent and time....
The fact that an outstanding actor is playing in a movie, by no means, equals automatically a good movie.... I consider this movie as a real lemon, period. By the way, I do consider myself as a Nicholson's fan to boot...
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
How to spoil a masterpiece...
I'm a Canadian of 56 years old. I love cinema and... guns... This movie would get a 10 if the interview with Charlton Heston would simply be removed. Both, my wife and I feel that this interview stinks. It was planned as a bear trap and absolutely unfair. Simply put: shame on you Mr. Moore . Except for that shocking brief event, it is a masterpiece, nothing less. After seeing this movie, each American should look at his country with new eyes... We can''t simply fix problems with violence. Empires, so powerful as they might get, live for a finite time....
Good viewing.
Gefährliche Lust - Ein Mann in Versuchung (1998)
Two hours well spent....
If we accept the story (who would hide the main hint to the police????) this movie is outstanding . The reason why : the cast. Each role is held and played with passion! The thrill is well kept till the very last minute. I did not know any of the main players so it was much rewarding. A little simplistic as a "finale" but then, I've seen much worse.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Missed opportunity
I thrive on cinema....but there is a limit. A NAME isn't enough to make A MOVIE!. The beginning of the movie puts us in a mood to expect the unseen yet. But we remain hungry ( or angry..) till the end . Things are getting so confused that I admit that I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE END or was there an end to this nonesense. The opportunity to make an outstanding movie was there but the target was totally missed. Next...
