The Holdovers (2023)
Not the best Christmas movie
First of all the acting was very good. Now with that out of the way, I found the story to be more tragic than an uplifting Christmas film. The film tried to depict human failings at every turn. Not especially uplifting for Christmas and the politicization of Christmas, atheism, was definitely not needed. 'Scrooged' was a more worthy picture.
Paul Giamatti played his role of chief curmudgeon at the school perfectly. He was let down by the story. Why would you end a Christmas film with the lead dragging the dregs of his existence in the tiniest U-Haul trailer imaginable to end the film. Christmas is supposed to give people reason to hope, not ending with an ancient Chevy Nova driving down a road to nowhere.
Chernobyl (2019)
History
You can see how politicians screw things up. Endless sacrifices were made by common people so others could live. They were brave beyond measure.
Lucifer (2016)
Lucifer!
Lucifer has always been an excellent show and now Netflix has improved the show even more. The plot lines are good and you can learn something about yourself and everyone else.
Fixer Upper (2013)
Love this show!
I have watched every episode and love the interplay between the Gaines' family members. Joanna is the interior designer and Chip the faithful worker-bee husband. Their homes designs are unique and in good taste. It amazes me how the housing disasters they encounter are done to budget without cutting corners.
Homes that more than likely would be tear downs in other areas of the country are given a new lease on life with the unmistakable distinctive mark of the Magnolia Company (Chip & Joanna). This is a fun family show that can be enjoyed by all with an upbeat outlook on life, home and people.
Battleship (2012)
Fun film for the entire family
An entertaining summer alien sci-fi movie that reminds me of the old Flash Gordon serial. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Gordon_%28serial%29 Pure escapist fare that you can take your kids or grand-kids to. I especially liked the USS Missouri (WWII battleship)being used as the foil for the alien invasion using former crew members to fight the ship. The movie was meant to be entertaining and not a treatise or scientific discourse regarding alien invasions. The very obvious link to Hasbro's Battleship game, I thought was amusing, hidden well under the guise of using weather buoys to track vessel water displacement when the Aegis weapon systems on the destroyers were disabled by the aliens. A fun movie for all ages to watch!
