Good film!
5 April 2020
I watched Simon Cox's new film Invasion Planet Earth on DVD today Nine years I believe in the making. This was a humongous undertaking. How do you make a blockbuster sci fi on a silly amount of money? The film is in competion with films costing hundreds of millions and will draw in viewers who will have those expectations Yes it works as a poor mans blockbuster and the test for me is did I watch it without getting distracted? Did I walk away feeling uplifted. Surprisingly yes. The story seemed to be all one way until it changed my expectations. Personally I could see a lot of homages and felt this could have been the final part of 2001 a space oddysey Quick recap. An alien intelligence give neanderthal/ humans the gift of making weapons and so humans create their culture and civilisation from wars through the ages until finally today we have the abilty to destroy everything. There were homages to Dr Who and Star trek 5 as the heroes face their past torments and become well. I felt there was a homage to The man who fell to earth and DUNE here too. The British have been the talent behind many awesome films and this is definately a British take. The Sfx was surprisingly better than I had expected. But lets put it into context Its not Hollywood Its not got the budget. There was one scene where the acting should have been more emotional We should have been able to have invested more into the characters. Simon Haycock at times reminded me of David Tennant especially towards the end which for me was where the film came alive. It may not be everyones taste. But what can I say I enjoyed it and thats all that matters. I really cant understand all the negativity from some reviews This is one whopping achievement paving the way for future film makers with a dream and a determination to do the impossible. Well done Simon and cast n crew on pulling this off.

Why have I never seen this?
23 February 2020
I did see the title and that put me off However after seeing 10 mins of it I was hooked and that's very unusual for me, I'm now watching all the episodes often 4 or 5 a day. This is so good and up there with Black adder Red dwarf ect. Really ,really needs better promotion. It's so sad this hasn't got the fame and recognition it deserves..

Great film
8 April 2017
After watching this on TV and thoroughly hooked throughout I want congratulate the cast and crew. I don't understand the haters. The FX were not as believable or pretty as higher budgeted films but then I have yet to be convinced by any of the best out there. Plenty of FX films are plain awful because of bad story But this held my attention through imaginative scenes and shots. While you could say a lot of FX were impossible they are no worse than all the liberties taken by other films. For example In space you can hear sound all ships have gravity Batman Jason Bourne et all fight nonsensically with sound fx giving meaning to nothing. Anyway the point is as far as believability goes its a work of fiction made believable by excellent acting camera-work sound and story. Well done.

Marley's Ghosts: Episode #1.3 (2015)
Season 1, Episode 3

Brilliant but only 3 episodes Bah Humbug
29 February 2016
There isn't much in the way of good sitcoms on the BBC anymore and this is a rare exception. This was imaginative, Lots of fun and filled with great characters and humour that rivals that of say Black adder or Alan Partridge. And just as funny actors. Marley is really cool embracing every situation with a charming humility. She is offset by contrasting opposing characters that do nothing but bring on unintentional comical trouble as they behave selfishly for their own ends. I used to like Randall and Hopkirk as a kid and this did remind me of that but better Just as I was getting hooked though only THREE Episodes. Bah Humbug. I do hope they get to make a proper series in the future as this could be classical comedy.

Zomblies (2010)
Amazing!
11 October 2011
I have to say was at times better than many top Hollywood films. The story is basically survival and will the men reach safety Along the way they have different battles that are really really well don and amazing considering the budget of this film. For those who say it has no story well neither did Mad max 2 then. One of my favourite films. This is pretty inspirational too.

I think the director will be someone to watch as the way he puts these action scenes together as I'm sure he'll have Hollywood knocking his door.

Well done cast and crew!

Monsters (2010)

Flipping brilliant!
21 April 2011
I've heard some critics say there was no story or the fx were bad and few and far between. I watched this film to see only the story between the leads and what an EX-1 with adapter can do...

Instead I was greeted with beautiful imagery a moving changing landscape and a realism that takes me back to real memories. I could smell the places and share the emotions.

The effects worked wonderfully. Some have said the monsters looked like octopus They didn't. They looked fantastic.

Well done to the cast and crew.

Mark
