Blaxploitation films of the 1970's - a list of 20 titles
20 titles |
Public
A list of 20 of films from the Blaxploitation genre. It's a mix of famous, and not so famous titles. Many are pretty crazy and over the top, though a few have more serious plots. This list is a good place to start for the curious.
Film Noir - 20 of the best films in the Film Noir genre.

Public
Twenty of the best films from the Film Noir genre. I basically follow what IMDb considers to be Film Noir. With the exception of color films (Rope, Hell on Frisco Bay, etc..), which I don't consider to be Film Noir. If your new to Film Noir, this is probably a good place to start.
Giallo movies - a list of 25 favorites
25 titles |
Public
A list of 25 of my favorite Giallo movies, which are usually Italian made murder mystery/suspense type films. Often with gloved killers wearing overcoats and copious amounts violence, these movies are a fun ride. These 25 movies were made between 1963 and 1982, which is considered the golden age of the genre. If you really enjoy this playlist, check out my Dario Argento and Jess Franco playlists.

I felt like I was missing some key films in my first list. Which prompted me to write this second list of Film Noir favorites.
Science Fiction Films from the 1970's - A list of 20 favorites

Science fiction seemed to be in a bit of a slump until Star Wars came around in the end of 1977. Oddly enough, IMDb does not classify Star Wars as a science fiction film, which surprised me. I can see their point, somewhat, they classify it as Action, Fantasy, Adventure. But to me, spaceships, laser swords, and talking robots = science fiction. It's not on this list for that reason, and also because nearly everyone is familiar with it. Anyway...as a result of that movie's mega-success, there was an increase in the amount of science fiction films made in the last few years of the 1970's. There were some great 1970's sci-fi films made before 1978, just not a great abundance of them. But even with the low tech special effects of the day, many of these films are considered classics. Here's 20 of my favorites from the 1970's, I think your likely to enjoy.
Want to try some Dario Argento movies ? A list of 20 titles.

Public
A list of twenty titles by Italian director and master of horror and suspense, Dario Argento. Many of the titles were both written and directed by Dario Argento. One of his first jobs in the film industry, was being one of the writers on the Sergio Leone film "Once apon a Time in The West" in 1968. His debut as a writer/director came in 1970 with "The Bird with The Crystal Plumage", which was successful, and helped establish him as a writer/director in Europe. His early films are mostly suspenseful crime thrillers, with elements of horror mixed in. These are often called "Giallo" films, which means yellow in Italian. The books that many of these films were based on, had yellow covers in Italy, which is where the term comes from. As time went on Dario went for more straight forward horror films beginning with Suspiria in 1977. I've been a fan of his films since I first saw Suspiria many years ago. If you're a fan of horror and suspense films, you should give some of Dario's films a try. A word of warning to sensitive viewers, his later films can be extremely violent. If this sort of thing upsets you, I recommend starting with his earlier films.
The twisted and perverse films of Jess Franco, a list of 25 titles.

Public
A list of twenty five films directed by Spanish director Jess Franco. These films range from gothic horror, to explicit tales of sex and perversion. His wife Lina Romay is in many of his films, more often in the sex and perversion type. I've grown to really like his films, especially the morality tales, and horror. If you like European movies with a dash of sleeze, give Jess Franco a try.
