Leave It to Beaver: Friendship (1959)
Friendship "leave it to beaver"
This was a good episode, yet again it showed how lousy a friend Larry was to the Beav. Larry often double crosses Beaver, and asks him to do things that no true friend would never do. In this episode, Larry and Beaver get into an argument. Later Ward tells Beaver a fable about true friendship. Beaver tells Larry about the fable the next day. So Larry uses this to take advantage of Beaver, and asks the Beav to give him his homework as proof of his friendship. Beaver of course gets in trouble. Beaver then tells Ward about it, and Ward tells Beaver that Larry misunderstood the story and took advantage of Beaver. The next day, Larry finally feels guilty about Beav being in trouble, and confesses about turning in the Beav's homework.
I'm glad Larry finally fessed up, but as Beavers "friend", he does stuff like this too much. Beaver is usually honest and loyal to his friends. Larry usually never returns that loyalty.
I also liked this because it showed Ward, while always having the best intentions with his parental advice, can sometimes increase Beavers problems. Beaver doesn't always have the maturity to handle Wards advice and many times hilarity can ensue when Beavers interpretation of Ward's advice gets him deeper into trouble.
All told , this is an enjoyable episode as are most from this season.
Family Guy: You Can't Handle the Booth (2019)
A Rare Miss
I thought Family Guy's best years were around the season 4 to season 9 episodes. A few seasons of average episodes followed. But then, around season 15 or so the show really got back on track for me and I found myself really enjoying the show again. It's hard for me to pinpoint the change, but it just seemed to be an all around elevation of the episodes. This experiment, however, didn't really work. I have to say, I saw these episodes differently than most. I saw the episode "who dis" without the commentary track, and I wondered if the writers had let some interns write the show. Scenes just ended without a joke. And when a joke was told, it was a complete misfire. I was glad to see this was a "lost" episode and not meant to be shown in entirety.
Then I saw the commentary episode, and found it distracting, mean spirited and unfunny.
But hey, they can't all be gems. I'm just glad most new episodes are enjoyable and I hope the show continues strong for years to come.
Cook Off! (2007)
Film comes to a screeching halt...
I love cooking shows. I love the "mockumentary" style of the " Best of Show" type movies. This movie seemed like it would be perfect for me. The first 1/2 hour or so, I really enjoyed it. A great, recognizable, funny cast was working for me. Then all of a sudden the wheels fell off. The start of the downfall was when Melissa Macarthy character was introduced. I like her, but she was not funny in this movie. Just uncomfortable to watch. The movie just took an overall mean spirited feel to it, that made it painful to watch. The movie just thinks it's much funnier than it is. It seems like a ton of ad libbing was going on, so maybe a better editor would have improved the film.
Love on a Leash (2011)
Love on a Leash
This movie will keep you entertained from beginning to end. It keeps you guessing the whole time. Many plot twists, but it all wraps up beautifully
Chopped: All-Stars Tournament: Part 2 (2011)
Anne Burrell on chopped
When Anne tasted an ingredient she was unfamiliar with, she makes a face and then proceeds to spit out the ingredient (dulse, I think it was) all over the kitchen. She then laughs hysterically. I thought it was disgusting and disrespectful. If a regular contestant had done that, the judges wouldn't have stood for it, and called her out on it.
