Fathers' Day (1997)
Awful movie
There isn't much to like here. Even Ivan Reitman doesn't have a lot of good things to say about it. You'd think turning Billy Crystal and Robin Williams loose would guarantee laughs. But you'd be wrong. There is a great cameo at the concert that keeps this from being a 1. Add this to the disappointing comedy bin, which includes Dutch, Blazing Saddles and the Hangover
Taken 3 (2014)
Good finale
I don't see what everyone's problem with Taken 3 is. It's a fine movie, nowhere near the excellence of the first one but its watchable. People keep griping no one gets "taken". As Obi Wan Kenobi would say, that's true from a certain point of view. No one is taken as a hostage for extended periods of time. But there is a mystery to be solved, people to be tracked down.
I do agree somewhat with the complaints about the action sequences, especially the plane scene. It's implausible that these scenes could happen and no serious injuries happen. But the fighting scenes bring back memories of the original. As far as the fighting/violence not being as graphic or extreme, remember this installment was rated PG-13 so things were toned down. I'm sure if the writers/director felt changes needed to be made they would have.
Overall it was enjoyable. Nice work by all involved
Executive Decision (1996)
Great movie
This is a tremendous movie. Not a big Steven Seagal fan, and I'm glad he isn't the main character in this one. The rest of the cast is excellent. Kurt Russell is great and David Suchet is tremendous, in a most non Hercule Poirot role. Suchet is such a versatile actor, having played Middle Eastern, French, Belgian and English characters in his distinguished career.
The movie is a bit long and drags in a few spots, but that just makes it all the more suspenseful. The supporting cast is very good, with Oliver Platt and Joe Morton shining. Much better than Passenger 57. Definitely recommend this movie. Worth watching and re- watching.
Neighbors (2014)
Disappointing and lame
This was a disappointment. There were a few laughs but Seth Rogan has done much better--Zach and Miri Make A Porno for example. I can't believe any parents would be as irresponsible as the leads were. What local police, or for that matter, what neighborhood, would tolerate all the noise without complaint?
This could've and should've been done so much better. I don't usually go for Seth rogan films and this is a good example why. Not very funny, poorly written. How this is rated 6.4 is beyond me. I'm glad I rented this and wasted my money on the DVD or blu Ray. Or worse yet, I could have wasted my money to see it in the theatre. Makes me think twice about wanting to watch The Interview.
