Kidding (2018)
holy.....!!!!
Ok, any preconceived notion of who you thought was jim carrey should be thrown out the window. this is one seriously dark and odd show. you laugh at moments of complete cringe worthy moments. this isn't for the faint of heart. it is truly a weird show. I just wish each episode was longer. give it a go. first season is a little too weird, but it comes into its own. just give it a go if you want someone completely out of the ordinary and I mean completely out of the ordinary.
The Magicians (2015)
after five season, it has finally gotten good
I wanted to like this from episode one, but it took almost three seasons to really get into it. yeah I know, why still with it? well the mrs liked this series, and had me sit through it with her. my initial reactions, quinn is a moron. he is portrayed as "the one" but can't get out of his own way. alice is portrayed as a savant but she is so unlikeable. penny is supposed to be so aloof yet is one of the most kind hearted. Julia is just as bad as quinn. but the real standouts are Elliot, margo and josh. these characters, I thought, were just throw away generic characters, but, as each episode evolved, they evolved into such shows of force. depth of reason, with genuine feelings. quinn, finally, got to show his characters strength, but then they killed him off. Julia finally smartened up, after some brutal story telling. and I do mean brutal. I cannot wait for the next season, just because I genuinely like this series now. and, yes, I read the books and I do not mind the differences.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
amusing, but.....
I am here to review the umbrella academy. having binge watched the whole series over a weekend, to keep the story fresh in my mind, I have come to the conclusion that it is a semi-solid story that is let down by the characters. they seems to be a rehash of the magicians cast of characters. Klaus is Elliot, luther is quinn, 5 is penny, etc. once you get some time in the series, it does have some standouts, ex, hazel and cha cha are great. ellen paige does a good job as vanya. I hope the second season delves a little more in character development since the series tried to cram a lot of info in the first couple of episodes.
Locke & Key (2020)
not as bad as people say
The premise has been seen before, but, I do not understand why people dislike this series. the problems that I see are that the youngest son, bode, who is portrayed by an actor (who played Georgie in the movie IT) who is too old. the mom, who is supposed to be a widowed mother, leaves her kid at their new home by himself while she goes shopping. the whole town knows the family, but nobody in the family seems to want to know why they are so well known. I know that it is nitpicking, that is why I put this at the beginning, but the series is quite entertaining. it is well shot, the sets are elaborate, the effects are pretty good for a Netflix original, they did not skimp on them. the first couple of episodes are slow and annoying, but it does start to answer my initial questions. give it a try, it is a good series.
