The Wingfeather Saga (2022)
Wonderfully fantastic!
After one of my animated fantasy shows has ended, I've taken to looking for another fantasy series for fun and inspiration.
Out of curiosity, I decided to watch all six episodes and... congratulations, this show (and the books premise) exceeded my expectations completely!
The background and landscapes are beautifully painted like that of a storybook. Well done twists and turns building up to one big mystery that leaves the viewers wanting to see more adventures and more answers.
And I certainly look forward to seeing the rest of the books come to the screen as episodes soon... Here's hoping!
ABC Afterschool Specials: Taking a Stand (1989)
Harsh side of Humanity
I saw this ABC special, it sadly shows that hate and vanity are deep seated in insular towns that can't stand anything that doesn't fit into their idea of "normal".
The whole neighborhood and the wife of the vandal are utterly shameless. So because someone doesn't physically fit their perfect little world they get to lash out? And they seriously expected a teen boy who did the right thing to lie? I thought truth, justice and coexistence was more important than superficial excuses.
Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs (2019)
Overdone and overrated
Nice idea about inner beauty, but it was way better portrayed in Beauty and the beast and in the remake telelnovela Llena de amor.
Here it's giving out the wrong message about body positivity called Megarexia. You may be beautiful, but you are not healthy, and I'm one of those whose learning it the hard way.
People can want to be good looking inside and out if they want to. Nothing wrong with that so long as they don't go overboard.
Barbie as Rapunzel (2002)
A lovely retelling of Rapunzel
Unlike the whiners, the irrelevant complaining and just the plain questionable comments I've seen regarding the reviews for this child's movie - I generally liked it.
While Disney's Tangled was a cute adaption (albeit that version of Rapunzel lacked a sense of self-preservation and was much too trusting of strangers). The extra plot twist adds an interesting mystery which intrigues the audience as to WHY Rapunzel was kidnapped to begin with. Also it shows you can be creative to escape the bonds of toxicity and make your dreams come true if your fight honestly for them.
The Owl House (2020)
Very Promising
As someone who is greatly into genuine Fantasy genre, I've watched a few clips, a couple of episodes to see if it was a series interesting enough to watch, and mind you this coming from an unconventional Catholic woman with Asperger's syndrome.
So I did so and... generally I liked it. The two parter season finale actually reeled in both me and my sister now that there's an underlying mystery in more ways than one, now I cannot wait to see where it leads.
Give the show a try, it's a cartoon and pure fiction, it's all in harmless fun.
La rosa de Guadalupe (2008)
Wonderful though other episodes could be better
In my personal opinion, it's actually a good show that tries to teach the whole family morals and it greatly shows many themes that are actually happening in life. Although I do sincerely wish it had more Aesop tropes for EVERYONE = as in the spiteful sibling (or the occasional idiot friend) gets a much stricter punishment or that the hard-hearted learn their lesson the hard way.
Okay, I 'll acknowledge that some of the episodes are too obvious or has too many loose ends, but that doesn't mean there aren't some episodes with good twists or great prospects. I too sincerely hope they bring out the DVDs soon.
Amarte es mi pecado (2004)
Wonderful story
I'll admit this wasn't exactly one of my favorites but I was soon hooked. Nora's a tough character when she shapes up and though I see a lot of people feel for Casilda - let me be obnoxiously honest, her ugliness wouldn't have been so bad if she didn't hate on Nora so much for the dumbest of reasons. In fact besides the main heroine and hero it's Paulina I felt sorry for, she wasn't even a villain - just a simple girl who made one dumb mistake in her life. And well, I didn't find anything funny about that moron Isaura who did a lot of bad stuff and that darn whistling was SO annoying! And I do wish her death was better and that it didn't have to end with a sunset - romantic as it was.
Thumbelina (1994)
One of my favorite animated movies!
Oh come on! All you people out there complaining that this was bad, gimme a break!
It's a wonderful retelling of a classic fairy tale, it's got a spectacular soundtrack, and it was directed by the talented singer/composer "Barry Manilow"! Which makes the songs memorable too; as a matter of fact, I practically searched for the soundtrack for a very long time after I was old enough to use the internet.
Not to mention the way they expanded the story a little more was a creative plot twist.
Plus, they've got Jodi Benson, hear me, the Jodi Benson, in the star title role; you gotta love her sweet singing voice!!
My sister and I loved it when we were younger, and we still do!
