The Man in the Iron Mask (1998)
Wonderful movie! Highly recommend! *spoilers*
Now, most people don't care for the film for various reasons. I've heard that it's not historically acurate, noticeably, but it is fiction. I've heard the mixed accents threw people off, true. But all that doesn't matter.
I've seen this film a couple times before and it didn't really affect me. But after this last time I saw it, I was affected beyond reason. Why? Beacause I am currently reading The Three Musketeers. Though I am near the end, I'm still not finished, and yet, I'v gotten to love the characters SO much, that this movie moved me beyond words.
NO movie has ever made me cry like this one. The death of D'Artagnan saddened my heart. I've gotten to know his character so well, and I'm only on the first book, that his death was tragic to me.
This film is far better if you read The Three Musketeers. But I must say, I am now afraid to read The Man in the Iron Mask, because if he dies in the book as well, then I may never recover.
Fictious or not, D'Artagnan is a wonderful, inspiring character. As are the three Musketeers.
This film may not be acurate, or even make complete sense, but if you know the chracters, then it doesn't matter. These fine actors brought to the chracters what the book could not.
Should you choose not to read the book, this is still a magnificent film. But to get the full affect, and perhaps a good cry, I suggest you read at least the first book, the Three Musketeers.
Very few films move me in such a profound way, and this is one of them. 10/10
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Begining worth it, ending not!!
Ok, I'm the world's biggest Vincent Price fan. So I had seen the original "House On Haunted Hill" Several times. When they decided to show the updated version on tv, I thought "why not?" I wanted to see how they would ruin a classic. Now I know the original isn't the best movie in the world, in fact it's not really all that good, but like I said, it's all about Vincent Price. He made the movie for me. If he weren't in it, I wouldn't have liked it. Anyway, back to the newer version. The begining was GREAT!!! I love the whole goth feel. When Geoffrey Rush appeared on screen, I was like "It's Vincent Price ressurected!" And then Lisa Loeb's character calls him "Mr. Price" and I fell out of my chair. I thought that was very clever to change the character's name like that. Paying tribute to the great Mr. Price himself. So they have the guest arrive in hurses like in the original, and they have the guns in the little coffins, and the wife cheating with the doctor and trying to kill the husband. They left out some things I would've liked left in. The vat of acid was a nice touch in the original. And Price(real or otherwise) out to get his wife back. Of course in the original he does kill her and the doctor. The sets were really cool, the music was eerie, the whole asylum thing was great(including the comic book like flashback), and Geoffrey Rush was absolutely amazing!! He played his character really well. Chris Katan, and Famke were good as well. Peter Gahlleger was ok, but the rest were horrible. Now on to the ending. IT SUCKED!!! The minute that ink-blot looking, bunch of ghost put together thing popped up, the movie lost it's touch. The ending just ruined the whole feel of it all. It was so good(despite some of the other characters underdevelopment) up until that point. They should have had the husband throw the doctor in the vat of acid, and then scare the wife into it too. I liked the freaky effects before then however. Like the shaking ghost and the weird images. And when the first person to die, that blonde girl, when she looks into the camera and sees the ghosts, and they look at her, that was nice. They could've left her missing, and never explain it. Ya know, as they're walking out the door in the morning, one of them can turn to the others and say "Wait. Whatever happened to (insert whatever her name here)?" And then they all turn back and have this "I'm not going back in there" look. That would've been cool. But alas, the real ending upset me dearly!!! I was thinking "hey, is there an alternate ending?"
Anyway, all I have to say is, it's worth watching, and very good, especially Geoffrey Rush, just stop the movie toward the ending.
Daredevil (2003)
Don't waste your money!!!!!
This movie sucks so bad!! It's worse than than The Phantom! I mean, in every way! The acting is just plain silly. The set up put me to sleep. It was fast, confusing, stupid, and boring. It hurt my eyes, and insulted me with it's stupidity. I darn near cried after seeing that atrocity! I wasted a good amount of money on that. If you want to see it, wait and rent it. It's barely even worth that. It did no justice to the comic book, or movies in general. Now, Ben Affleck's costume was magnificent. I thought Colin Farrell was entertaining. And I like the music, and the appearence of Paul Ben-Victor. But other than that, it was horrible. I'd rather lick the floor than see that again. Please, don't waste your hard earned, prescious money on this "film!" It's so terrible!!
The Invisible Man: Pilot (2000)
Best show ever created!!!!!!
Best writing ever, best acting ever, best ever!!! To begin, this show has the best cast chemistry I've ever seen. The plots are original, and entertaining. You get humor, drama, all of it, every episode. You can relate to the characters, and it's just a good old time. Fawkes and Hobbes are the BEST duo ever. I've never seen a duo as good together as they are. The scripts are brilliant, and I couldn't picture better actors to play them out. Every person I introduce the show to has gotten into heavy like me!! It's just an awesome show that everyone can love!!! I miss it dearly, but there are ways to get hold of it. I highly suggest EVERYONE watch it!!! Even though it's gone, you can still enjoy past episodes, over, and over again. You can also learn lessons from them as well. There isn't one episode I hate. I love them all!!! Best show ever!!! See it!!!!!
Crossing Jordan (2001)
I like it!
All right, so it's not the best show in the world, but it keeps me coming back. I actually, *blush* got into it because I'm a HUGE Steve Valentine fan. *blush* And for a while, I couldn't stand it, but after some time, it grew on me. It really does have it's moments, and I find it to be an entertaining hour of television. I never miss it. It's much better than CSI, and much better than all those other stereotypical crime/law shows out there. I mean, here, you actually get to know the characters, and focus on their lives and how their job affects them, and vice versa. And the show was created to focus on Jordan and her life, hence the name of the show. I like that they spend more time on the other characters than most shows do. And I love the chemistry they have. The diversity of the characters is something I can relate to. And so what if it's un-realistic. That's what entertainment is supposed to be. If every T.V. show was like real life, well, you've seen how horribly boring and overwhelmingly stupid that can be. I like that hint of fantasticalness. It brings you into another world, another place, another mind set. It's well written, well acted, and very, well, entertaining. I like this show, and I recommend it to people all the time. Hence forth, I shall recommend it to you.
