Mallrats (1995)
Dialouge, Dialouge, Dialouge
This movie has the best dialouge of any movie I've ever seen. It's a simple portrayal of 2 guys, both having been dumped by their respective girlfreinds, who decide to spend a day at the local mall. While one (Jeremy London) is trying to win his girl back, the other (Jason Lee) is pretending like he is okay about his breakup. The storyline is good, but what makes this movie is the dialouge. Brodie is a smartass and feeds likes like "Most of the time I'm just talking through my ass. Or sticking my hand in it.", while T.S. is a romantic loser who says things like " You should see yourself right now - a grown man with his hand down his pants." And with a great cast (Stan Lee, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams) this makes the movie so much more awesome than it already is. It really is a treat to see this.
Stripes (1981)
The Quick Brown Fox Jumped Over The Lazy Dog.... SIR!
This movie is a true comedy classic. Its one of those comedies that everyone has seen (ie: Cheech and Chong, Monty python and the Holy Grail, Caddyshack, Blues Brothers etc....). Its filled with exactly the kind of childish humor you get in those movies (and you know you love it!). The storyline is that Bill Murray is a deadbeat and he and his freind join the army. The get in to an "Up in Smoke" kind of deal with a "heavily armored recreation vehicle". And then hilarity ensues. If you havent seen this and you're heasitating to go rent it or whatever, take my word for it and go see it ASAP! You will literally die laughing.
Boom Shakalaklaka Boom Shakalaklaka.
American History X (1998)
probably the best neo-nazi film
When I first saw this film it literally blew me away. It was an accurate depiction of racist behaviors and a lot of thought went into it. It was well made, especially the black and white scenes where the climax was. It was rather harsh though. I could see many people getting offended, and I really woulden't blame them. Edward norton and Eddie furlong give great preformances as do the other actors and actresses. Everything about this movie was well planned. It was extremely intresting. I think if more people watched this film, there would be less racisim.
Cremaster 3 (2002)
Mindblowing
My friend told me about this film a few days before we went to see it. I had seen the trailer and I thought I was in for a good art film, but what I saw was something so amazing, beautiful and sad at the same time. Everything in the movie was connected to something. Everything was a symbol. It reminded me of Lynch's Mulholland Drive but on a much more intense and artistic level. It was completely awesome. The story is not one i can explain, and I don't believe many people can. If you like watching films, then re-hashing them for weeks to come, then this is for you. Some scenes were quite disturbing and not for the squeamish type (ie: decomposing racehorses). All in all it was wonderful.
Safar-e Ghandehar (2001)
amazing portrayal of life in the real world.
This movie was eye opening. I have seen many of makmalbaf's movies yet never anything this personal. It was beautiful and harrowing at the same time. I would totally recomend it to anyone who wants to know the truth about the world.
