Sweet Sunshine (2020)
Can be watched with the whole family
This film has such sweet story. I defiantly see the "A Star is Born" with more of a lighter hand and based in faith. So it is something that can be watched with the whole family, even the little ones. Love the actress that plays Sunshine.
Distiller (2016)
retro indie scary pic
Enjoyed this retro indie scary pic. I felt like this self-aware horror-comedy has some really good part. Really dig the vibe and also the special effects. Really impressive for an independent film. Great job!
Into the Void (2019)
Love for "end of the world/apocalypse" movies
I have a love for "end of the world/apocalypse" movies. And this one delivers. Love how this indie takes the genre to a full studio level. Beautiful cinematography and coloring. It really looks well done. I also really liked the human story in the chaos of this world. You never leave the humanity for the sake of the genre which makes this film very full and engaging. Highly enjoyable.
The View from Here (2017)
A lot of heart
Omg that "I love you" scene literally happened to me in my real life! This film has a lot of heart behind it. I really enjoy the chemistry between the two leads. I also really like to see the city, San Francisco, as a character as well in the film. I never felt like the story was slow and the story really moved along. Well done.
On the Corner of Ego and Desire (2019)
Fun, bizarre, and true
With the backdrop of the Sundance Film Festival this film is a fun inside look of how bizarre the indie film world can be. I thought the character were really developed. It felt like a real documentary at times. The over the top scenarios these filmmakers find themselves in are also very relatable. Almost hard to watch at times because of this. A good movie to watch if you are working weight a micro budget! Great job!
What Love Looks Like (2020)
Fun take on the romcom
This movie did a really fun take on the romcom. You get to follow multiple stories instead of just one which I liked. The stories fit together well. Good writing. The filming is done very well. I have seen another film by the same director and love his style. And he keeps getting better.
Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk (2017)
Heightened coming of age story
This sexually fuel coming of age story is heightened when you write it from the protective of a Jehovah's Witness. I thought this 80's throwback was the perfect film to watch on a Sunday night. The lead is quirky and lovable as he messes up every situation he is in. I root for him the whole way. I recommend it.
Perfect Feet (2019)
highly recommend
Calvin Dwight Harris is a great host to follow through this unexpected documentary on feet. And this one had me thinking long after the film was over. I learnt so much watching this and it was fun too. I highly recommend it.
Ab Negative (2019)
This indie still has a big budget feel
I love apocalypse themed movies. And this one delivers. The locations are great the fighting is impressive. This indie still has a big budget feel and that is great to see. I liked the apocalypse story with the use of a rare blood type. Smart. Recommend it.
The Texture of Falling (2018)
Intimately, lust, and love
This creepy sexy indie does some really neat things. The dialogue is written in a really dramatic way and brings up very interesting ideas about intimately, lust, and love. I love watching indies because they take some big risks and there are some really big payoffs in The Texture of Falling. Visually I was very pulled into the story. Bravo! Worth the watch.
Loners (2019)
super successful satire
This is such fun writing. You get to go to a whole other world in this film and I love seeing that. Such original content. It also is smart writing. It leaves you with questioning your own society. Which I think is super successful satire. Funny script and unique characters. If you love indie movies and satire I suggest checking it out.
Before the Dawn (2019)
great truly indie film
This is a great truly indie film. The acting is really well executed. The story is a positive spin of the theater student relationship. So if that storyline is not your thing this might not be your film. But if a well crafted story with really good performances and some rising stars sounds like your thing then check this out.
This Is Meg (2017)
celebrity culture in a refreshing and fun anyway
This film tackles celebrity culture in a refreshing and fun anyway. This indie film has heart. I like it how it was told from a comics perspective you were able to see even more how crazy new media entertainment and fame really is. This movie took some chances and I think it paid off big time. I enjoyed it.
The Edict (2017)
Indie horror with good story
I like the question this indie film gives the audience. Where did this evil artifact come from? Is it the ancient artifact that is making all these things happen or is it from the character of Jessi? The cycle of events that is hinted too reminded me of some classical horror films that I really like. There seems to be a possession element to the film too that is carried by the lead actress. I appreciate this indie horror for the story and how they didn't hold anything back.
Better Than Love (2019)
Very touching performance about the opioid epidemic
This movie tackles a very current topic. The opioid epidemic. The story really portraits how insidious addiction gets. I also loved that they set it in Seattle. It felt like the storyteller was telling a personal piece. And I love that feeling watching a story. The story focus on the journey of the lead, played by Andrew Lawrence, and he really goes all in on this piece. Very touching performance. I am looking forward to see more.
Love Is Not Enough (2019)
Took me back
I thought this movie was really sweet. It took me back to the time I graduated and had to balance new career and love. I like the choice to make it with humor. It made it even more enjoyable. I was impressed with the production value for an indie film and there is a slick style to it. I am looking forward to see more.
Belushi's Toilet (2018)
A crazy fun journey.
This indie took me on a ride. I did not know what to expect going into the film but I was kinda glad I didn't. The story is very large. They take some risks with the filming and the way they portray drugs in the film and I loved being able to see that. They are also some very deep thoughts along the way. It feels like it drops in and the audience is allowed to breath and then in the next scene we are back on the run.
Hex (2017)
Who says you can't do a indie horror/thriller period piece.
Who says you can't do an indie horror/thriller period piece? I would point them in the direction of this film. I love watching it all unfold because of the why the style of the piece supports the story. Very strong characters in this movie. You get to see mainly two minds get twisted and turned as they are thrown into war. This indie horror/thriller period piece (mouthful) was a joy to watch.
Hesperia (2019)
Small town with A LOT going on in it
This is a small town with a lot going on in it. I love the indie film world and this one is a good one to study in the world of true independent features. I love the simple story that spins out of control. There are also small touches of humor throughout the piece that I found very humanizing. It made me connect to the suspense of the film even more. Cool lighting in some parts. Looking forward to future projects from this team.
Earthrise (2014)
Indie Si-fi Story
I love watching movies like this one because the filmmakers really haven't to figure out how to make a sci-fi look like a sci-fi with only a indie budget. And I think they nailed it. The people in the story are trying to go on a mission to earth and some crazy things happen. They story is fueled by the story and performances. Would love to see a second part.
Big Mistake (2014)
Did not expect the twist
I haven't seen a movie like this in awhile. It was giving a throwback into some of those classic 80's movies. I think the story also had some film noir aspects in it. I did not expect the twist in the middle and at the very end. Well done indie!
A Slice of Life on Barcelona (2015)
All about story
This movie is all about story. The title is a slice of life in Barcelona and according to the lives of a deadbeat man, his live life, and a lesbian couple, life is hard. We follow a group of people as they navigate their hard lives living half on the streets. There are love triangles, drugs, lots of making out, and a feel of a punk edge all along the way. The filmmaking is a example of the new indie and I felt myself rooting for the main characters as well as get really angry at them. Main focus is story in this indie feature and I followed it the whole way through. Kudos.
True Law (2018)
Good indie crime drama.
The story is full of love triangles, cheating, drugs, murder, family, loyalty, and power. The story feels epic. There are a lot of twists and turns. The dialogue is also epic in style like, "No , I'm not dangerous, I'm just loyal. And if I know a friend has by back, I'd give my life for that friend. And the second that friend stop being a friend. I won't hesitate to get ride of that friend, and everybody that that friend loves." Epic story. Good acting. Large cast. Good indie crime drama.
The Evil Down the Street (2019)
Production was excitement on this indie film
Production was excitement on this indie film. The story was interesting to follow. The lead actress did a badass demon very well. The story is very much Paranormal Activity meets The Exorcist. A whole religious element is bought into it in the second half and pays homage to older horror films. I enjoyed it very much.
Hey Diddle Diddle (2009)
Very nice build in the story
There was a very nice build in the story. I like the production and performances were very developed. It is always interesting to see peoples take on social anxiety disorder and there was a very relatable way this story was told. Trying to impress others and always worried about others. Bravo!
