Dracula's Guest (2008)
I wish it was possible to give this a minus 10
It was that bad! I've seen some terrible horror movies in my time, but this was the absolute worst!
First of all, the plot did not make anysense. Why would Dracula want to impregnate a human woman to make arace of "super vampires?" Their offspring would obviously be half-human. And the guy who played Dracula was awful. No offense to heavier people, but Dracula was described as tall and thin. This actor,Andrew whatever his name was, just did not fit the part. He looked like a washed-up WWF pro wrestler. He struggled with his fangs through the movie and I thought that he was going to 1) spit them out or 2) swallow them. The actress who played Elizabeth seemed like a Valley Girl who, you know, was shopping at the mall for some kewl clothes and uh, got lost at the mall and wandered into the home of umm, this really creepy, fat vampire dude. And what was the point of the scene with "Bram Stoker" (Wes Ramsey)and the French-speaking people who were trying to kill him? They were talking about the guillotine, and the Revolution had ended a century before! They definitely needed to get out more.
The only bright point in this awful mess was Wes Ramsey. He is handsome and personable and does have talent. Quick Wes, cross this off your resume and find a new agent!
The Illusionist (2006)
Jessica was a poor choice for Duchess Sophie
I enjoyed this movie, but like another poster above I thought that Jessica Biel was miscast as the Dutchess Sophia. She just wasn't believable as a turn of the century Austrian aristocrat. She was okay in the role, but she isn't nearly the caliber of performer as Edward Norton and Paul Giametti. If Nicole Kidman was younger she would have been good for the part or among younger actresses, Liv Tyler, who I believe played a princess in the "Lord of the Rings" (sorry, I didn't see any of the trilogy -- I guess I'm just not a "ringer.")
And why when she (Jessica Biel/Dutchess Sophia) was young did she have fair hair and blue eyes, and as an adult, she had brown hair and dark eyes? I know that people change as they get older, but not THAT much. Inconsistencies like that are somewhat annoying.
Otherwise, I thought it was a good movie and I would recommend it.
Unfaithful (2002)
Unwatchable! (Spoiler Alert)
I rented this movie because of the buzz about Diane Lane's performance. She did a good job, but on the whole, the film wasn't very good, mainly because there are so many lapses in credibility. Why would someone in Lane's position -- a beautiful home, loving husband, nice (if goofy) kid risk it all for rough sex with some skanky looking French guy? People just don't do things in a vacuum. And any man who was suspecting that his wife was having an affair would confront her first, not go to the lover's apartment. Also, the scene where Gere disposes of the body, in broad daylight, is just too farfetched. C'mon, this is New York City!
Also, none of the characters were sympathetic. Connie comes across as vapid and not too smart -- I mean, she calls the guy from home, puts on sexy lingerie that her husband never saw before, etc. No one would be this dumb! And she doesn't even apologize to her husband for her infidelity, even though the guy is obviously heartbroken about it.
The characters come across as rich, shallow, self-centered egotists. In the long run, who cares about anything these people say, do or think?
(P.S. - Everyone raves about Diane Lane's looks, but I think she looks like a stick figure with a boob job. In her next film, she should keep her clothes ON!)
