Kirschblüten - Hanami (2008)
A humble movie in balance
Watched it for the first time a few weeks ago on streaming. I was very touched by it, and couldnt stop thinking of it. So I had to buy it on DVD and rewatch.
The movie balance the drama in such a great way. The sadness and the comedy, that embrace the story and characters, that we dont need much info of eachother to understand them. But also because the characters are so well written and acted, that they can mirror themself to eachother. Not in a "award" worthy meaning, but so it fits to the movies stile, story and most important so it feels natural.
We also get to see 2 very different cultures and landscapes, that has been shot in a way, so it both look amazing and like you are there. While we listen to the very humble and yet alluring soundtrack.
I always say, a movie is great, if it feels too short. Wich this one does, even though its 2 hours long. Do I want it to last longer? I would say no, because I think it would ruin the balance. Even though there are some rough cuts to scenes here and there.
You People (2023)
Made me sick
Made me sick. Had to pause not to throw up, and gave me headache.
Because of the camera work. Its filmed like the camera guy is sitting on an office chair. Moving side to side, and trying to do swings/flips to follow a conversation, then ad the bad editing, then it feels like you are moving up/down, left/right like you are on a skate ramp. Then add all the close ups. Its like every scene is zoomed in. I feel like i was actual sitting on Jonah Hills lap, and Eddie Murphys was judging me for starring at his forehead. One more thing about the editing and actual the whole moive, its trying way to hard to be hipster, young with young people, and the thing is, they are to old. They should have sticke dwith their generation, rather than trying to have Jonah Hill play an awkward young man, as he was great at 10 years ago.
For the romantic part of the movie, its full of cliches, adds nothing new. It is as romantic as the room, Twilight or Fifty shades of grey. The Comedy, is cringe not funny. Coming with the same black, jewish, white jokes we have heard for decades. The delivery of the jokes or how the scenes are made, seems more like hate or prejudices, from everyone. The movie is way to long.
I would have given it 1 star. But i have to admit, i did laugh now and then, but mostly in the scenes with David Duchovny that actual was funny and made most cliche scenes, worth watching with a twist.
So many things went wrong for this movie. I think mostly because the movie felt rushed in the preproduction and writing. You cant make a whole comedy/romantic movie, only about culture difference, without the romance and comedy parts. It also feels like its a subject that is outdated. Im not saying its not relevant today, it is, but how it deals with it, seems outdated and talking down on the subject and special "You people".
Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railways (2012)
Chris Tarrant or a railway show?
Chris a rude old man, that still lives like it was the midt 18th century british empire. He complains over small things, like sitting next to a toilet, while you see Several passengers standing and some being to skinny, sleeping and taking this route daily with a smile. He talks/yells back to people wich he/they doesnt understand. "Extreme railroads" is only extreme to him. Special season 2, were we see him sit in luxury trains like Japan and Canada is nice to see, but nothing "extreme", except luxury. This is also some of the rare episodes, where he is not being grumpy about comfort. And Instead of see the whole routes or get some history, we see him travel with car, plane or boat, in a railroad series!
Atleast 1/3 of this show is Chris. It is still pretty and good history, but theese parts is also rushed, special the parts were you finaly meet some intresting people or pretty landscape.
I know nothing about Chris, why he is the best suited host to this series, is a mystery. Special for so many seasons, he is too old and childish. There are is nothing wrong to be old and childish, infact i would love James May to be the host. But the way Chris is being old and childish, in the wrong ways, that is disrespectfull to many cultures, people and talk down to the viewers, with random personal history and facts you could find on Wikipedia in 10 lines. He never seem curious, intrested or present in the moments, more like "faster i can come home is better, or the longer the trip is, the more i get paid"
The editing is kinda annoying, like i mention earlier. It is rushed, special the landscape, wich you most of the time only can enjoy for 2 seconds. Then the people you meet, it is most "how long you been here?" Interviews. The facts are rushed, and you cant "geek/nerd" with the trains details. Also the many angles of the 1 cameraman, were they had to take 1 scene/questions many times to get the different angles. Im not saying there is only 1 camera dude, but in several scenes there angles that is impossible to get, without capture another camera guy, or its impossible because of the small space.
6/10 is high, but if you can ignore Chris, it is a fairly character.
The Orville: Electric Sheep (2022)
A big middle finger
I normal dont write reviews. But I am so mad and sad, after watching this episode.
First of all, yeah suicide as a theme in this show, is so misplaced. What were they thinking, when they choose to start a season with that subject, without any warnings. And also having this episode, in honor and memory of Norm Macdonald a comedian!. That was so disrespectfull!
Then how they treated, the suicide subject! One character saying "When someone takes their own life, Its nobodys fault" WHAT!? Thats a big middle finger to thoose who commited suicide or tried. "Nobodys fault". That line made me so mad. So what about the people who could have helped and prevented it? (Yeah I blame the crew). Or the people who has pushed someone out to do this action? (Again the crew).
Its not only badly handled, but also so wrong, that this episode should be taken down. It could push depressed people to act, by watching this. Special this show, were people should feel safe and have fun watching, they will be taken by surprise.
I dont see this as a review, but as a warning!
WandaVision: We Interrupt This Program (2021)
MCU is back!
I had some doubt if this series was gonna be intresting enough. And damm this show delivers! the build up and setup was a risk from Marvels side, and i have to say it again i trust in every move they do and risk. They never lets you down, special this episode. I was surprised to see one of my favorite characters from Thor/Thor 2 to show up. All the questions we had/have is either getting answered or questioned by the characters. This episode wanted me to rewatch the last episodes ASAP.
