Dexter (2006)
Seasons 1-5 were good.
Warning...Spoilers...
Seasons 6-8 kind of sucked. What would have been an excellent 5-6 season series, gets totally ruined by stretching it out to 8. Don't know if the writers got replaced or they just ran out of ideas, but the writing really stared to suffer after RIta was killed off. And, although I liked season 5, plot holes became more and more frequent and far too obvious.
What really was disappointing was the total destruction of Dexter and Deb's characters. Dexter became a lot less likable when he planned to kill Lt LaGuerta, braking his own code. Also, his relationship with Hanna was quite annoying. I'm sorry, but Hanna was not a likable character. At most annoying of all was turning Debra into a murder and then killing her off in the end. That was just down right awful. I won't even go into how Dexter abandons his son and step children. What would Rita think. Boo.... Dexter writers....Boo!!!
The finale would have been a little less annoying, if Dexter died instead of Deb.
This is how the series should have played out...
Season 1: The Ice Truck Killer Season 2: Lumen ( Dexter maybe cheats on Rita ) Season 3: Trinity killer ( Rita Survives ) Season 4: Lila ( Doakes at least makes it to season 4 ) Season 5: Jimmy Smits Rita and Dexter get married, and Dexter loses his Dark Passenger. The End of a great TV series.
Alternative Season 6: Lt LaGuerta or maybe even Doakes (Never should have killed him off) hunts down Dexter and arrests him. Dexter goes to mental institution where he belongs and gets the help he so obviously needs. The End :)
Avatar (2009)
Aliens Good, Humans Bad
Just saw Avatar and overall, I liked it. There were some logic errors and plot holes, but they weren't too bad. The main plot was far from original and somewhat depressing; Good Natives get forced to relocate by Bad White Men. The subplot about the connection the natives had with nature and their animals was very interesting.
Pros: 1) CGI - Absolutely beautiful and imaginative. 2) Technology - Very cool and imaginative. 3) Sub Plot - Nature is Cool, lets not destroy it. 4) Acting - Sigourney Weaver (Good) / Stephen Lang (Very Good). 5) Action sequences quite good. Not too ADD. 6) Relationships and Chemistry were well developed. 7) Excellent Creature and Character designs. 8) Inspires the imagination and a desire to explore. 9) Good running time. 10) "Good Guys" win.
Cons: 1) CGI - Way over animated and too Walt Disney. 2) Technology - Borrowed from movies like Aliens and NOT advanced enough. 3) Main Plot - Dances with Wolves meet the Smurfs, only more depressing. 4) Acting - Sam Worthington (Wooden) / Zoe Saldana (Over Acted). 5) Unobtainium - Wanted a better explanation of it's value, that would better justify a war with an alien race. Also, dumbest name ever for a rare mineral, even if James Cameron was making a joke. 6) Individual Character development was limited. 7) Smoking in a future Science Lab. 8) Questionable military ground tactics. 9) Feelings of hopelessness for the Human Race. 10) Humans are the "Bad Guys".
Zombieland (2009)
Just an average Zombie movie.
Just an average Zombie movie.
Wanted so much to "Really" like it, but the movie just came up short. Zombieland is about a kid who's trying to survive in an apocalyptic world, destroyed by zombies. He even creates a list of "Zombie Rules" to follow in order to better survive. The acting was fine, and the direction was above average. The special effects weren't excessive and there was very little A.D.D. crap, which I really liked.
What I couldn't get over, were the plot holes and logic problems. The first list, I can just chalk up to character stupidity, which is hard to do; considering the movie is about a logical list of zombie rules one should follow:
1) The girls abandoning the two main characters in a Zombie destroyed neighborhood. 2) Unintentionally setting up Bill Murray to be shot. 3) Going to an amusement park and attracting zombies from miles around.
The main thing I couldn't get over was how the two girls manage to ride the amusement park rides without an operator on the ground. If it's possible to do that, please somebody chime in, and I'll give Zombieland a couple more stars. All in all, Zombieland is worth watching if you got nothing better to do, but don't expect much.
Jane White Is Sick & Twisted (2002)
Jane White is unfunny and boring
Jane White is sick and twisted is about a semi retarded girl who is addicted to TV and tries to get on a Talk Show she believes is being hosted by her long lost father.
Interesting idea for a movie, but the idea never generates into a watchable movie. There's obvious borrowed material from shows like Reno 911 and Saturday Night Live, but not even that can save this boring, poorly acted, unfunny turd. Usually with bad comedies, who can at the very least enjoy the characters, but this so called movie has such poorly developed characters, it's actually somewhat painful to watch. Half way through, I had to fast forward to the end just so I could see the music credits. I actually enjoyed some of the music in it, but I couldn't even enjoy that part, because the ending credits were so unintelligible and bad. Thanks for nothing.
If for some reason you have to watch this stink bomb. I suggest downloading it off a torrent site. Don't give any money too the people responsible for this circle jerk.
Feast (2005)
Perverted Gore Fest
Patrons trapped in a bar or forced to fight off mutant monsters. Feast is a total gore fest with a dash of perversion. I like gory horror movies like the next guy, but there is one thing that does not go well with horror, and that is sex. When sex mixes with horror, it is too easy for the material to become perverse. The best horror movies have a touch of humor to offset the gore. Feast has none of that. The movie goes out of it's way to disgust and anger the viewer. Not my idea of fun.
Director, John Gulager seems to have a firm grasp on "perverted horror"; so much so, I think he should seriously consider therapy. If you like mutilated genitals and rape scenes this movie is for you. If you have an ounce of sanity, avoid this so called movie like the plague.
Equilibrium (2002)
Better than The Matrix
Great Sci-Fi movie. What the Matrix could've been, if the Matrix hadn't had such a disappointing ending. Equilibrium is an interesting tale about a futuristic oppressive society that has outlawed emotions and individuality in order to control their citizens and prevent possible violent behavior.
The movie was obviously inspired by other Sci-Fi classics; such as Fahrenheit 451 and THX 1138, but it's not just blatant rip off. It borrows from other movies, adds it's own ideas and successfully creates a Science Fiction story that's both interesting and unique.
I think the only thing I don't like about it, is the title; It's quite a mouthful. Try saying Equilibrium five times really fast.
Silent Hill (2006)
Should've Stayed a Video Game
Just another example of the "A.D.D. Ones" not organizing and editing their thoughts or even focusing their ideas. This movie could've been very good, but the whole thing was just way out in left field with parts spilling out into the parking lot. I found myself suspending disbelief way to often and this is coming from someone who loves Science Fiction and Horror stories.
After reading some background info on the movie, I found myself even more confused. You shouldn't have to be familiar with a video game/back story or be required to do research in order to follow a movie, and if the Director is going to use visual clues, better make them obvious. In a world of excessive graphics and attention deficit disorder, people without A.D.D. are learning to "tune out" certain visuals. I also found myself wanting to see more of the creatures, and as usual with todays modern cinema; the dialog was somewhat slurred and mumbled. I don't want to "figure out" a movie. I do enough "figuring out" in the real world.
Maybe the movie should've been split up into a trilogy. With the first movie mainly being about Alessa's past and the town of Silent Hill. The second, about Sharon, her upbringing and her relationship to Silent Hill. Then the third, about the alternate realities of Silent Hill. Maybe the movie would've been better if someone who wasn't familiar with the games took on the project. If you're someone who likes clear and consistent rules in a story, and doesn't like to make a lot of assumptions; you probably will not like this movie. Overall, I would say the movie is worth watching for the Cinematography and Creature Designs alone, but be prepared to be disappointed in the Plot and Direction.
