2 oder 3 Dinge, die ich von ihm weiß (2005)
Good documentary on a families destiny
The film is about the legacy of high rank nazi official Hans Elard Ludin who was sentenced to death after world war 2 because of his involvement with war crimes. His son is the film maker and tries to display how his father was and still is perceived by his many children and their children. Even after his death and also whilst being alive. And of course their way of processing and interpreting their own memories in comparison with historic sources.
What I liked about the movie was the very honest way of showing how the family interacts especially when discussing delicate issues.
The camera work etc. is pretty good although I was kind of surprised by some of the sound effects used. They were kind of trying to tell the viewer what to think or feel about certain frames.
P.S: The other poster obviously didn't quiet get what was going on in the movie or is just to naive to understand it. at all. What I didn't like too much was the overall very small amount of prove for Ludin's involvement with crimes. I do think though that contrary to the opinion of his daughters Ludin did know what was going on. The film doesn't give enough input for me to have a founded opinion though.
I do also get the impression that this film is somewhat of a self medication for the filmmaker. coming to terms with his families past and maybe even getting rid of guilt that he feels. I don't know if this comes from a narcissistic point of view or something like that but one could get that impression.
Recommend movie - much better insight than most documentaries I've seen cause it's on a very personal level that somehow everyone can relate to.
S. Darko (2009)
Not as bad as everyone sais
OK. I don't think this was a necessary sequel. I do think that Donnie Darko has one of the greatest atmospheres of all films I've ever seen and therefore it's one of my favorite ones. BUT! This movie may not be directed by genius Richard Kelly but it still is a pretty decent movie!!! The fact alone that it has the actual sister of donnie from the original is pretty cool if you ask me. Well, as most of you don't seem to remember - donnie darko isn't a very logical movie either the first time you watch it. And I admit there are some parts in S.Darko where I still don't really get what it was supposed to mean. but so there are in d.darko. And S.Darko was certainly not the b-movie horror flick I was expecting. It is a sequel. Should it have been made? not sure. But there's something to it. and people need to try and watch more objectiv without d.darko in mind. A 3.9 rating is not what this movie deserves and I bet this comes mostly from fans of the original movie who weren't even allowing this one to be a good movie in the first place. kind of unfair If you ask me.
Zivilcourage (2010)
Shameless display of the corrosion of Germany's public TV stations!
Except for the role of Götz George all actors are absolutely hilariously awful. The conversations especially with younger people are as staged and unrealistic as they could be. Also there is a very strong racist undertone in this movie. It almost watches like a propaganda film for some racist party. And the conclusion? Old men gets a gun. Evil immigrants are put to jail!? What the heck?? Who is supposed to believe this? Who's supposed to enjoy this? This watches like a hate speech on all immigrants in Germany. They are displayed as being stupid, evil, vile and cruel. Also it is a very bad portrayal of German youth. One could really think they are all listening to extremely shitty hip hop music and hang around drinking pure vodka at 10 a.m. ! Unbelievable. What strikes me personally is how this movie was reviewed by German media. There were no positive reviews but nobody reveals this as the racist piece of film it is. There is so much wrong about this movie. I could probably make a review on every scene and tell why it's extremely bad or inadequate. And I know that the director of this movie is of Israeli descent and a Jew. Yes, I know. Makes even less sense. I would only recommend this movie if you want to find out what's happening with German public TV stations who come up with nothing but unimportant bullshit for people over 60 since years although having huge budgets and being on duty to the public as they are the ones who pay for this. What a fraud!
Brüno (2009)
Worse than Borat, still good
First let me tell you that in my opinion Borat is just the greatest comedy/documentary of all times. I remember seeing it the first time and just constantly laughing my ass off. And contrary to what many think it was actually a deep movie. I've also been a fan since Sascha Baron Cohan got popular with his Ali G. show. the discussions are legendary. So let's talk about Brüno. I always thought that Bruno was Cohans weakest character in terms of jocularity. Just because the gay thing has become a bit bathetic I'd say. Still he delivered some really good clips back in the days. So Brüno now also has his own movie. It has great clips in it and the plot is logic. a bit like borat actually. The biggest problem about the movie itself now is that in opposite to borat many scenes seem to be obviously staged. that might be the result of Cohen having earned world fame after borat and therefore making it harder to actually fool people about his persona. but I think it's a fact. It's not very much a documentary anymore but a film. His interview partners often had the potential to produce some really droll material but he just didn't use it because he was pissing them off with his super gay antics instead of trying to make them say hilarious things. my expectations were very high that's why I am really disappointed. check it out though. it's still aeons better than crap like "hangover" etc. the German in the movie is really funny if you're German BTW. because it's basically total gibberish haha. cheers.
Mr. Deeds (2002)
Heartwarming and funny
A movie like that has never been made before.
We've got a love story. Millions of dollars and a huge unsuspected twist in the story. It's small town America showing the cold NY city what life is really about. Everything packed in an extremely funny package. You'll be all like "No...HE DIIIIIDN't!".
Friendship, love and remaining true to oneself.
Mr. Deeds is the kind of guy you will find in every town of small town America. This movie is not a waste of time at all. It will enrich your life for years to come. It's people showing off real feelings in a plastic world where everything seemed to be about money.
The soundtrack is obviously influenced by great composers such as John Williams and reaches your core with every note.
God bless the U.S.A.
