The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
don't panic and hitch a ride!
After reading the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" I borrowed from a friend last December, I was curious if anyone would consider to make it into a movie. I got lucky, because as soon as I logged in on IMDb I found out they were already making it! So now I had to test my patience..Waiting from January to July (I live in the Netherlands and saw the sneak preview, officially it comes out in 3 days), and finally I got to see it.
I loved it. but I couldn't tell why? It's almost as impossible to tell how much I loved this film, as to explain what it's about ("Well, it's about a whale and dolphins and a man and construction workers and a king of the universe and a guide for what to do in certain occasions"). But there are certain aspects in the movie that make it so fun to watch. Sam Rockwell's crazy enough to play someone with the name Zaphod Beeblebrox and Martin Freeman is perfect as a neurotic British man.
The only thing I can say about this movie is don't panic and hey, losing your planet isn't the end of the world ;)
Secret World Live (1994)
feel-good music :)
A while ago my mom came home from work and she bought this DVD. The first thing she said was that I would really like his music, but I wasn't interested in it so I didn't watch it. A few days later I turned on the DVD player, forgot this DVD was in it and started watching.
After the first song "Come talk to me" I was sold and I couldn't stop watching. I was really impressed by the beautiful voice of this man and his energy on stage. the music is wonderful and very variated from slow, lovely ballads to energetic songs which really make you jump off your chair (or whatever you're sitting on :P ).
I recommend everybody who's still doubting to watch it, to just do it and let the feel-good music come to you :)
Bright Lights, Big City (1988)
great, but was that all?
I made the mistake to read the book Bright Lights, Big City before I saw the movie, so I was quite irritated by the fact that the screenplay was almost exactly the same as the lines from the book itself. and I think they made a mistake by casting Michael J. Fox for Jamie. He just can't bare the problems Jamie's having. Kiefer Sutherland on the other hand is almost perfect as coke-addict and womanizer Tad Alligash (you could have strange thoughts of that, but I just mean Kiefer's a great actor and he plays his part very, very well.and he looks hot in a suit). I might be over the top about it, but I think he rocks in this movie. but I wasn't comfortable with the end. it's just, you don't hear anything of the other characters. did Jamie break with Tad or what? don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, but...was that all? didn't they have anything more to say about the ending? by all means, but this movie left me a little bit unsatisfied. you'll probably see it for yourself, if you watch it.
Labyrinth (1986)
great laugh!
when I read the summary of "Labyrinth" I was thinking of some kind of computer game (I mean with the goblins and stuff) I was watching it with a friend, who'd seen it before and I didn't really know what to expect from it. I thought it sucked bigtime, until I saw David Bowie as the Goblin King. I was surprised to see him like that, espessially because the film is older than I am, and I don't know David Bowie like that (as an actor I mean). but from that moment I just simply LOVED the film and its humor. I'm not saying that Jennifer Connely doesn't do a great job, but she can't handle the movie herself, but she plays Sara very, very well. just watch it and you'll see what I mean.
Promised Land (1987)
so there truly is another side of the American way of life
I read the summary of the movie and I saw the line "the other side of the American way of life" and I was wondering what it was. I'm Dutch, so it was a relief to see that America wasn't as perfect as it seemed. the movie wasn't really what I expected from it. but not in a negative way. I simply loved the movie. the simplicity of it. I only knew Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan (Kiefer was the reason I bought it). Kiefer was great as Danny, but I was stunned by Meg as the almost trashy Bev. I almost cried at the end, but I only want to say: Watch it, as fast as you can. and don't expect anything, because you won't get what you'll expect.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Truth, Beauty, Freedom, LOVE!
the one line summary pretty much covers the whole story. I have no words for it, except the one word that hit me right after: fantastic! but than again, even that won't do for this movie. I've never seen Nicole Kidman with such spirit and Ewan McGreggor with such passion. a love so pure... I could only dream of it. anyway, I thought it's a fabulous movie, really worth watching (but I say that of every movie I've comment on)
To End All Wars (2001)
just brilliant!
to tell you the truth, I was quite surprised when I saw this movie. it was different than I expected. it was better, there were real emotions and great acting. before I saw this movie, we talked in my English-class about Ernest Gordon and I remembered the title TO END ALL WARS, so I rented the movie. it made a bigger impression to me than most movies had ever done. and even though kiefer's character was a self-centered person I couldn't help myself liking him. the morality of campbell lost it's credibility but I loved the acting esspessially kiefer's. I've got just one thing to say: it's a brilliant movie, watch it!
The Brotherhood of Justice (1986)
it's worth watching!
it's about 2 years ago when I saw this movie for the first time, and I fell in love. twice. with Kiefer Sutherland and with the car he's driving. but that's not the point. I was impressed with the acting of the cast and I was surprised to see Kiefer, Billy (Zane) and Keanu (Reeves) in their early years. it was a nice movie to see. worth watching and not so bad as the summary might say. I didn't get bored watching it but I was a bit dissapointed about the end. further there's nothing wrong with this movie and it's actors.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
the biggest surprise of the year... in a good way!
when I left the theater after watching this movie, I was shocked. never had a movie surprised me so much after reading a little part of the plot. then I began analysing the film. when that didn't work out I decided to watch the movie again, but now not with my boyfriend, but with a couple of friends. well, they didn't understand the movie at all, so that didn't work out either. then I found it: just let the movie "happen". bruce willis and haley joel osment are acting so damn good that you're shaking in your chair. personally I thought this was the biggest surprise of the year 1999. in a good way. I give it 9/10
Truly Madly Deeply (1990)
"Ghost" with brains.
when I clicked on the line "I've seen this movie and I would like to comment on it" (or something like that) I found out that there's nothing to comment on. it's just a fantastic movie with great performances from all the actors and that's all there can be told about the movie.
before I saw this movie, I saw "Ghost". not such a bad movie, but not really my style. then someone at the video store told me to watch "Truly Madly Deeply" and so I did. Drawn conclusion: Simply, "Ghost" with brains and more real feeling. I was really stunned by this movie, and I would like to recommend this to every movie-freak, who's also interested in the "little products" (that's how I like to call them). when I need to give it a grade, I give it 8.5/10
Desert Saints (2002)
Kiefer's really hot in this movie :)
first of all I was very impressed by the plot of this movie. I just loved it! but what I loved WAY more about this movie is Kiefer Sutherland! he acts great in that movie and looks great too. but not all credits go to Kiefer, Melora Walters does a great performance too! but I just wanna say this is a great movie. WATCH IT!!
Behind the Red Door (2003)
simply said: GREAT movie!
I cried almost an ocean of tears when I saw this movie for the first time. it's simply said a fantastic movie. Kiefer Sutherland plays a terrific role as a dying man, Roy, who meets his sister Natalie ( a great role by Kyra Sedgwick) after a very long time. The plot doesn't say much, but please watch this movie, and you'll love it, just like me. I give it an A+
Young Guns (1988)
facts+ fiction= great movie
The first time I saw young guns, I was stunned by the great acting of Kiefer Sutherland, Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen. I believe the strength of the movie lies with the acting of those three men. Of course a great story goes along, no doubt about it. I really think this is a great movie, I LOVED IT! just watch and you'll see, believe me. I give it 8.5/10
Dark City (1998)
a creepy masterpiece
Rufus Sewell and Kiefer Sutherland are the stars of this creepy, but odd, maybe even weird masterpiece.
John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) is accused with several murders. strange enough he doesn't remember anything at all. on his "quest" to his real identity and memories he gets help from Dr. Daniel Schreber (Kiefer Sutherland) and inspector Frank Bumstead (William Hurt).
Still there?
this is probably the most absurd plot i've heard of, but the possibilities are used very well, and that is what it makes a real masterpiece. just watch the movie and you'll find out.
The Three Musketeers (1993)
great laugh, great film!
o.k. 3 reasons why you should watch The 3 Musketeers: 1 Charlie Sheen, 2 Oliver Platt and 3 (the most important one) KIEFER SUTHERLAND! Kiefer does a great job playing Athos, the serious, melancholic one of the 3 musketeers. his role is a perfect combination of comedy and drama, but the drama-part makes him an "outsider" next to Oliver Platt, who plays Phortos and Charlie Sheen, who plays Aramis.
but they aren't the only persons who deserve credit: i've got my thumbs up for Tim Curry and Chris O'Donnell. i've got only one advise: Watch it!!
24 (2001)
Best tv-show ever!
Kiefer Sutherland is THE STAR of the best tv-show of the new millenium: 24! just like I said before: best tv-show ever! it almost seems like he doesn't act at all! i also have to compliment Leslie Hope, Sarah Clarke, Elisha Cuthbert and the rest of the cast for their great job! Thumbs up people! i give it 9.5/10 !
Flatliners (1990)
great chill...
this movie sheds a new light on the Near Dead Experience. and it's not a pleasant one. unlike the tunnel with the great light people are talking about, this one brings up the sins the actors characters have committed. Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt and William Baldwin are the stars of this great movie! i've been a Kiefer Sutherland fan for quite some time, and this is one of the best movies i've ever seen! thumbs up! i recommend this movie to everyone who hasn't seen it yet! i give it 8.5 out of 10!
A Soldier's Sweetheart (1998)
Not so bad at all
the weird thing about A Soldiers Sweetheart is that it's worth watching it. if you say that it's stupid to get your girl to 'Nam, you're right, but that's the gimmick. it makes the story interesting. the movie is not so bad at all. it's quite enjoyable actually. thumbs up for Kiefer Sutherland and Skeet Ulrich! I really want to recommend this movie to anybody who hasn't seen it yet!
