Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (2008)
OK, but not great
Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control is a spin off of the Get Smart movie featuring Steve Carell. The movie is based around Bruce and Lloyd (funnily enough since they are in the title) who are the two tech guys from Get Smart who came up with all the spy tools. It runs in the same time line as the Get Smart movie and has a cameo appearance by Anne Hathaway (99). It also includes Patrick Warburton (Hymie) and the receptionist (dont know her name) from the Get Smart movie. Hymie although not there for long was hilarious. There are some extremely funny parts and overall it isn't too bad but at just over 60 minutes was too short.
Get Smart (2008)
I was dubious but pleasantly surprised.
Growing up on the Don Adams original i was very doubtful about this movie. I love the original series and the only expectation i had of this movie was that it can't possibly live up to the original. I was surprised, this movie is hilarious and it seems to only get better each time i watch it. I have seen it at least 3 or 4 times and every time i still laugh at the same things. The casting of Steve Carell as Max was a master stroke, i don't know that anyone else could have pulled it off. Also Patrick Warburton as Hymie, seriously, no one else could have done it as well. The reason i give this movie only 7 is because of the inappropriate use or mis-timed use of certain lines. Especially the line "Oh Max" that 99 says several times throughout the movie. In the original series, she would say it after Max does or says something dopey and it fit, but Anne Hathaway's use of this line just didn't fit with what was happening. I really hope there is a sequel and that Hymie is brought more into it. Spin off: There has already been a spin off movie, Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control which features the two tech guys. It runs in the same time line as the Get Smart movie and has a cameo appearance by 99. Hymie was also featured and although not there for long was hilarious. It wasn't a bad movie but at just over 60 minutes was too short.
The Promotion (2008)
OK but not great
I saw this movie last night. I expect more from Sean William Scott's comedies. This isn't one of his best. Not a bad movie with a few laughs, but i think i only need to see it once. The storyline is different to any other movie i have seen. The movie almost gets out of first gear, but not quite. Its definitely not as funny as some of his other movies such as American Pie and Welcome to the Jungle. I have been use to hilariously great movies from SWS, i hope this backwards step isn't going to be an ongoing feature of his films. Next on my hit list to see is Balls Out. I am not sure what to expect now. The Promotion is good viewing, but not vital viewing.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
My Favourite Movie Of All Time
This is beyond doubt my favourite movie of all-time. I am a Morgan Freeman fan and apart from Driving Miss Daisy, i have loved all his movies that i have seen. The Shawshank Redemption stands above all. I think it is a great movie with a sad overall story but a happy and just ending. The only other prison movie i like as much is the classic Clint Eastwood movie Escape from Alcatraz. The Shawshank Redemption has long been my favourite movie and even though i have the DVD, i still watch when it is on TV. 15 years since its release and i still haven't seen anything i like more. I would recommend this movie to everyone and if you haven't seen it yet, you must be living in a cave or something. If you are in a cave, get out and go see this fantastic movie. 10/10
