That last episode was awful.
5 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First I must say that until the last episode this was enjoyable viewing and probably an 8. It has a good mix of action, intrigue, love, lust and evil doings to make for an engaging story. There are some very good performances especially David Oakes. BUT, the final episode was as flat as a pancake. It was if the producers had been left too much to cover in the final installment and had to keep to budget, resulting in a very clumsy conclusion. This is in addition to what seems to be the imperative for US productions that at the denouement, the whole plot has to be spelled out in words of less than two syllables. Every villain declares their hand and has to explain the what and why fores of their evil machinations. So much so it is more like a stage farce unraveling than a medieval epic turning full circle. If the director had left the viewer something to think about it would have provided a far more memorable impression. Finally, why oh why does the villain always begin his attempted escape on terra firma and yet feels compelled to find a tall building to be chased up only in order to fall off?

Very disappointing
10 March 2010
This movie had the potential to be a star. Some very good actors, good special effects and a great source of storyline - ancient mythology. But the incurable disease that seems to infect a great number of Hollywood productions has smitten this one as well. It is aimed at a level well below the lowest common denominator and nearly every line of script spells out everything! It makes absolutely no demands on the audience and ultimately leaves you unsatisfied. This is because there is nothing in the movie that inspires or evokes emotion. The only character that has any development is the satyr and he is the only source of humour which is also in short supply. The viewer inevitably will fail to develop any sympathy with any of the characters and comes away with sympathy only for themselves; for having wasted their time watching it.

A good movie for the US
28 April 2009
Don't be put off by the negative comments about the movie made by people who claim to really 'know' rugby. This is a film which deals with people who happen to play rugby and the essence is those relationships, watch it you'll enjoy it.

On the rugby front, it is also exposure for a great game and once again don't be put off by some of the crass statements made by some commentators here about that game.

The modern game of rugby is an incredibly skillful and dynamic sport and should the USA embrace the game more extensively it will reach the top flight in the global game. A movie like this will help, but what will not help is immature statements by mediocre players wanting to be seen as tough guys - parents will not support their kids in a sport of thugs. Real modern rugby is not about that, it is about athleticism and excellence in playing the sport.
