Doctor Who: The Impossible Astronaut (2011)
Brilliant!
SPOILER ALERT!
On the back of the Fifth complete series collections box they say we're all just stories in the end. Doctor Who stories are - - - brilliant! Even the weaker ones are brilliant! And yeah, some are some not quite as good as others. It's a TV show, the pressures of doing a weekly show gotta be - - - incredible! Hey, even the "lesser" just get better, view after view. ("Lesser" is in quotes 'cus they're only seconds from the firsts.) View, after view, the stories, all the stories so get better! Moffat, and company know what they're doing. Oh, they so know what they're doing! Christopher Eccleston, David Tennat, Matt Smith - - - each different - - - each a great story! Can't wait it see what the stories with Peter Capaldi are!
This review is attached to "The Impossible Astronaut", so I should at least mention it - - - it's complex - - - it all the BEST ways! It's one of my favorites. I hope they bring back River Song again. Ms. Kingston, is - - - a very bad girl - - - and ya gotta love a bad girl! I wonder, what would it feel like to dive off the 50th floor into a swimming pool? Any cliff divers out there? What does it feel like?)
(Oh - - - and why hasn't anyone mentioned Dr. Renfrew is a bit wonderfully - - - 'buggy'? But, then that's the Doctor. Dig deeper, it just gets better!) So - - - my recommendation, relax, watch, - - - and enjoy! "Doctor Who" is top drawer! Flaws, and all, it is more than the sum of its parts. It's a 10! It's brilliant!
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000)
Captures the Fun
If you remember Rocky and Bullwinkle? If you watched, and loved them as a kid don't listen, ah, read, the 4 point whatever out of ten review of this movie. It is perfect! It does what few movies trying to capture a cult series in a single movies does - - - it does it! It is a movie written by smart people for smart people. The verbal puns are as witty, and as groan producing as ever. The visual gags are better. ("Hey, Rocky, haven't we passed through this town before?") (OK, that isn't a direct quote.) There are perfect touches throughout, like Russo's walk, DeNiro riffing on "Taxi Driver", Alexander nailing Boris, and Super tramp's song "Dreamer" when Rocky flies. Have a bad day? Have a rough week? Pop in the movie, relax, and enjoy! This movie captures the fun.
The Twonky (1953)
What's Wrong with Mozart?
The Twonky. "As a child, I was a STINKER," so say the Coach.
Great Line!
I remember, vaguely, "The Twonky". I must have been nine to---twelve, and I watched this GREAT movie on--- some local channel--- and LOVED it! It was all about TV taking over our lives. Mom didn't understand when I told it to her, but I did! And I still do!
Yeah, it's movie for those that like Sousa Marches over Mozart--- and and can accept a 'monster' than walks worse than Mike Mercury, and that like their 'cheese' plied high with plenty of psychotropic memories--- and that think an entertaining movie is better than a well-made movie any day!
"All Hail", to Turner Classic Movies for showing this forgotten gem!
