Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins (2009)
If you like the first 2 films, this one is not worth it!
I thought I would give this movie a go, knowing that it would have no premise what so ever on the first couple of movies because it's made by Cartoon Network and not WB, but that is no excuse for how poor this movie is.
I have been a fan of Scooby Doo and the gang for about 15 years and I gotta say, this is very disappointing. Remember when Cartoon Network re-released the new Scooby and Shaggy cartoons? Remember how different they were to the original? Well, thats how this film makes you feel. It's gunna have different actors, fair enough, but these guys are rubbish. Scooby Doo looks like he has been on a diet, and Fred! Well I didn't know who Fred was until the end credits! He just looked nothing like what you would expect.
Maybe I was just looking for a third big Scooby blockbuster, or maybe this film is actually rubbish. If it's a cold, lonely Sunday afternoon with nothing else on TV, go to the pub, don't watch this!
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)
Definitely better than I thought it was going to be!!
When I heard that they were going to bring a sequel to the brilliant Night at the Museum, I was a tad sceptical, thinking what they would do, but I must admit, I think they might have pulled this one out of the hat! I didn't really know how they could take this movie to the next level as we already know its a museum where the characters come to life. But they did it! Their was a fresh storyline, fresh actors and they kept the original cast from the first movie (I get quite annoyed when they change them, Mummy 3 and Evie!!) I must say that my only downside on the acting front was from the lovely Amy Adams, I think she is fantastic and I really enjoyed her in Enchanted, but in this film she seemed a bit uncomfortable, and her acting just a tad 'tinny'.
I may be the only person that thinks this, but i do believe the role would have been better suited to someone else.
As a movie, it is great for kids or adults and will suit everyone in between, If you are looking for a good family comedy, then this is for you!
The Last House on the Left (2009)
Lives up to every trailer and review given, FANTASTIC
I must admit up front that I haven't seen the original of this film, and to be brutally honest, I have only just found out that it is a remake! When I first saw it advertised, I thought it would just be another film that they show the best parts in the commercials, and then leave the rest of the rubbish for you to pay and go see! But this film delivers right from the outset! Yes, their is some parts where you are shouting at the TV for the girls to run away from their captures, and you just want to pick them up and carry them off so they don't get anymore hurt for being so stupid! But on the whole it is fantastic! The acting is spectacular from Sara Paxton who has to be 'raped', shot, attacked and the rest and she does it just brilliantly.
The storyline is very solid, and has you gripped all the way through from start to end! If you are looking for a good, solid horror that will have you on the edge of your seat, then this is for you!
Bride Wars (2009)
Not as good as I thought it would be, but still worth a watch
I must admit, being English I thought that I would jump at the opportunity to see a good chick flick that didn't involve Hugh Grant. Although anything with him not in it has already scored marks in my book! The film itself features two brides, Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Ann Hathaway) who are both the best of friends. When they happen to book their dream weddings on the same day, at the same venue, everything turns sour. This film has a good, solid, yet slightly predictable script, and a good cast.
It doesn't show either Kate Hudson or Ann Hathaway off at their best, but it does bring in some pint sized laughter and the odd sigh as you feel sorry for either of the women.
If you want to see a reasonably good chic flick, then this is for you :)
