Chernobyl (2019)
10/10
Stunning.
21 May 2019
I lived through this from the USA side of the iron curtain. I wanted to give this a 10 after the first episode, decided to wait to make sure they didn't screw it up. After the second episode I said no, wait for the third, it can't be this good. Just finished watching the third episode. It's that good. I have never given a 10 to anything on imdb and probably never will again. Fiction just isn't this compelling. A friend was in the nuclear power industry during this time and we had long conversations about Chernobyl and various reactor designs. Too bad the entire world was focused on reactors that made weapons material instead of safe power reactors.

HENRi (2012)
8/10
Powerful for such a short film
25 February 2013
I didn't know what to expect from this short. After seeing posts on Facebook by the Philip K Dick Film Festival, including a trailer, I decided to buy it online and just finished watching it and the "making of" which was just as interesting. I have to admit that this is only the second online movie purchase I've made.

For hard Sci-Fi fans, especially devotees of 2001, this is a must have short in your collection. A few of the miniatures shots are less than perfect, but overall the suspension of disbelief holds.

I have to say, without Keir Dullea this piece would lose much of its impact. The dichotomy of the relationships from 2001 (Bowman/HAL) and HENRi (Calvin/HENRi) would still be present, but having the same actor that played Dave Bowman is a true stroke of genius. The scene with Margot Kidder sets up the ending. I hope a feature length film is in the works already to set up the mission and the events in this short!
