Desperation Road (2023)
Solid Movie Story and Acting
I really enjoyed this movie a lot. Didn't know what to expect so I went in blind and very much appreciated the storyline, the way the stories weave together, the acting, the scenery, it was all solid.
The lead actor, it was bugging me where I saw him before and finally, Kings of Leon "Beautiful War" music video. I always loved that video. He is a very good actor!
I liked all the characters and actors in this movie, I liked Mel Gibson, they were all likable and didn't overshadow each other.
This is a drama, so sit back and relax and enjoy the movie as it unfolds, it keeps you interested the whole time.
Avgrunden (2023)
Boring Cliche
I like foreign films but this movie had so many 'holes' I found it unbearable. What was the main characters job? Oh yeah, to warn the town; well the rocks are literally landing on her head before they decide to warn people and no one even cares, everyone is lingering around staring at the holes in the ground.
I found this movie so frustrating to watch. I knew who would die and who would survive, and I'm not in the film industry. There is no originality or depth at all. There are no surprises. Bad storyline, bad writing. I disliked it very much.
The only good thing about the movie at all were the last scenes that showed the landscape, it's a beautiful country, and the last song was nice. Don't waste your time with this one.
The Circle (2017)
Disappointing, Boring
I was really looking forward to this film; the actors alone drew me in (especially Tom Hanks). The storyline is so bad, completely completely unrealistic. The writing was so predictable. I was so disappointed in how the story was told, it was irritating.
The acting was mediocre or ok, I'll give that a pass, but it's the overall story that failed. My partner wanted to shut it off after only 15 minutes but I kept saying, it'll get better...but it never did, it just got worse as the movie went on. I'm so mad at myself for not shutting it off any any point.
Too many parts that were so unrealistic - oh sure, the man who created this technology and someone you just met is telling you the biggest secret and showing you something no one has ever seen, and even though the whole place is being watched, you are able to get to the bottom with no one watching. And the whole world is really fascinated when you brush your teeth...newsflash, everyone has a social presence, you are not that interesting. Let's find "Mercer", why? He's not hiding and not lost, helloooo, he lives at home and has an address...how was this supposed to be hard to find him? Yes another scene that was ridiculous, lots of other ridiculous scenes.
Just a disappointing movie, I disliked it from the beginning to end, there are no redeeming parts.
The Recall (2017)
Very Bad
How did this movie get such high ratings? I generally never review a movie, and I don't mind watching a badly rated movie..I give them a chance. This was awful. Bad acting. Bad writing. Bad idea. I honesty can't find one thing I liked about this movie. Some bad movies go for the comedy angle, this one could have and it might have worked if they changed it..but they went for the serious angle and it was awful.
Atonement (2007)
Loved the movie, hated the turnout
I loved this movie, and I'm not a 'romance' movie person (more drama and horror). The more I thought about it, the more I hated Briony the character. Atonement? Really? Wait until you are an old person, probably every person who could have benefited from the truth is dead, every single person, and now you write the truth? For what exactly? She waited so that anyone who could have cared is dead and gone and can't judge her anymore for lying. And her reason? To give them what they ultimately wanted? That's a pretty picture in her head to justify somehow waiting all those years to reveal the truth, when it really doesn't matter anymore. Briony knew she did wrong when you see her looking out the window as they took him away. To show them happy, 50 years later was it? On a beach? How romantic...and fake...something you conjure up in your mind to help you sleep at night. She basically killed both of those 2 characters within 4 years...nice. A jealous, nosy busy- body preteen whose actions killed 2 people and ruined more lives (the mothers/parents, brother, etc.), and is now confessing in her book as some sort of atonement, when she really is dying of cancer and needs to feel like it matters...well at this point it doesn't. The 'scene' she caught in the woods was consensual, but her cousin couldn't outright admit to having premarital rough sex, could she..so she also went along with the charade to look like a victim. But if Briony didn't accuse someone, no one would have gotten hurt, there just would have been a lot of hard questions as to what was happening out there when she should have been looking for her brothers instead of having fun with some guy she was attracted to. Good movie, hated how it ended, but I suppose it was appropriate. The only part of the ending that makes up for it is that I think Briony ended up alone all her life..
