Raiders of the Hidden Donald Trump Fetish Doll (2018)
Funny and Enjoyable
Angel Connell always comes up with something different, unexpected, enjoyable and entertaining and this short is no exception. I found it very entertaining and am looking forward to seeing the short film he is trying to get funding for. Well worth seeing.
Beneath the Veneer of a Murder (2010)
Another winner from Angel Connell
Beneath the Veneer of a Murder is the latest film from director Angel Connell and is more experimental in nature than his last two films "Stocking Stuffers" and "Shes So Cold". It opens with a phone conversation over the beginning credits and poem from an unknown author which implies that all may not be as it seems.
Then the scene itself comes on. Set in the basement of a house and starring Eric Scheiner and Christy Scott Cashman the scene involves the murder mentioned in the title and is quite riveting. This scene is very well done in every way and features very convincing performances by both actors. The lighting and camera-work is also very well done and includes a couple of complex dolly shots that work seamlessly in the scene, adding to it without calling attention to the camera. Connell really knows how to make camera moves work within his story. The editing is also seamless. Everything goes together so well you don't even notice the editing, all as it should be.
We get another phone conversation over the closing credits and find out that everything is quite different than what we believed up to this point. It is quite a surprise. My only complaint about this film is that the story told in the phone conversations is probably more complex than it need to be. Also it is difficult to read the poem at the beginning and concentrate on what is being said at the same time. Watching the film a few times will definitely pay dividends. All in all Angel Connell has directed another winner. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do on a feature.
She's So Cold (1995)
Superb short Independent film.
After seeing Angel Connells excellent "Stocking Stuffers" I had to see this film. Although Connell made this one first it is even better with superb direction by Connell and excellent performances everyone involved and especially Robin Reck and Connell himself. Although the subject matter may not be to everyone's taste (I won't go into a plot summery), the movie is quite riveting and holds your attention like few I have seen. The movie is shot on film and it look great, especially the middle section that is shot in high contrast black and white and includes some great dolly and crane work. This is a short film you will not soon forget. Connell has a unique vision that is unlike any other director of independent films I know of. His work is also highly entertaining. See this if you can.
Stocking Stuffers (2001)
Very entertaining and very well done.
I was at the video release party for "Stocking Stuffers" when it was released in 2001. The film was received to great acclaim then and it's easy to see why. Although very short, this film is extremely entertaining with great performances by Christy Scott Cashman and Eric Scheiner. Both actors seem very comfortable with each other and the dialogue works well. There is plenty of sexual innuendo but nothing explicit. The first scene is very well done with some beautiful dolly shots and nice lighting. This was obviously shot on film and it shows. Angel Connell is a director with a lot of talent and I'm looking forward to see what he can do on a bigger budget. He certainly did a great job here with very little money. The 3 commercials are also of very high quality. Christy Scott Cashman is very charming and funny in them. She has a real talent for comedy. Overall I would highly recommend "Stocking Stuffers" and am looking forward to seeing more from Angel Connell and everyone involved.
