For All Mankind (2019)
Good But Wokenomics Is a Distraction
Overall pretty decent stories taking place from different character's perspectives. Season 1 left me ready for Season 2. Getting people to the moon was no easy feat, and with the added pressure of losing this fictional space race and wanting to keep one-upping the USSR you get some cool story lines
I agree it gets a bit soap opera-ish at times. There's one occurrence in Season 2 Episode 8 that pissed me off and I wish they had not gone there -- totally out of character for the person involved. I can only assume the first season writers weren't all there for season 2 -- no continuity.
The laughable notion of space shuttles going to the moon is one thing they should have thought through more carefully. But overall the special effects are first rate.
Christmas in Rome (2019)
Beautiful Locations, Mediocre Otherwise
While this movie had some beautiful locations, and somewhat of an interesting story, where the tour guide is just trying to make it on her own and the story of the handmaid Christmas ornaments, overall this fell flat. Luigi, the Italian owner of the company, was the one brought start in this movie. Additionally the male lead in this story never even seemed remotely into his female lead, so I was surprised when all of a sudden they were dating. 6 stars is about as generous as I can get.
Knives Out (2019)
Great Whodunnit & Great Cast
Great story telling and quite unexpected twists on a modern-day whodunnit. Some stellar performances from Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ann de Armas, and a huge supporting cast of stars. Starts fast, has a lull for a short while in the middle, but ends with a BANG (not a spoiler, btw). Loved it! Finally, an intelligent movie for adults that doesn't take itself too seriously.
