Moon (2009)
I wish this movie got more recognition
Coming into the movie, I had no idea exactly what is going on if they do not pay close attention to the small details. The way the movie was put together was simply amazing, it gives the viewer a calm and normal sensation for a situation of a lonely person on the moon who is cut off from the rest of the world from being on the dark side of the moon. When in reality the viewer is being placed in the middle of a dark and secret situation that is more to the viewing eye. Sam Rockwell has always been a top favorite actor of mine, but after watching Moon, my respect for him is at a high. Sam Rockwell gives us a variety of emotions as well as personalities in this unique story, since he is literally talking to himself throughout the movie when each personality is an absolute different point of view and approach to the storyline. Overall, this movie is a great film to watch if you are ready to sit down and watch something that will keep you glued to the screen. My only wishes was that Moon could have been given more recognition than it was truly given.
Avatar (2009)
Peace with War?..... Not Happening
Hearing post previews of this film was great before going into it with great expectations. I first heard an actual good review of this movie from the Deans List in which I had a few of the similar reviews on it. But when i heard that the Deans List gave this movie an "A", I knew I had to see it when it first came out. What I really adored about this movie was that it provided a cast full of known and unknown actors. A cast in which consisted of Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), Sigourney Weaver (Alien/Aliens), Stephen Lang (The Men Who Stare At Goats), Michelle Rodriguez (Resident Evil), Joel Moore (Grandma's Boy), and Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan), each one of these cast members brought a little something different to the table, each one had great talent for the characters they portrayed. As an example like Stephen Lang did an excellent job as a "Gun Ho", all war soldier that has had his take in action, just look at the scars on his body. One can also look at Sam Worthington, who first went into the war with a one sided mentality, soon learning about the race he was there to destroy, he did a brilliant job and I hope he does great in the films to come, consider Clash of the Titans, cannot wait for that. Unfortunately, some of the cast could have used a little work, Giovanni Ribisi has done a great job in films such as Saving Private Ryan, but in this he showed many of the same character traits as he did in Gone in 60 Seconds, in which was a mediocre of a movie, in my opinion he could have done a little more with the character he was playing. Another part of the cast would have to be the known actress, Michelle Rodriguez, in which showed some of the same aspects as Giovanni Ribisi showed. She shows the same character similarities in most of the movies she acts in. Consider SWAT, Fast and Furious, and Resident Evil, in which she shows her "Badass", Do Not mess with me, mentality which is great for some scenes but after a while just gets a little repetitive.
The filming in this movie was outstanding, the visual effects were simply amazing. Evening viewing this film in 3D was awesome. One viewing this movie can see every little detail in a scene. In one of the scenes, a fire is set in the forest, after all the smoke is cleared and the battle is over, you can see every little piece of ash falling from the sky. There was actually a point in the movie where I took my hand and ran it down my face to remove ashes from my face. The battle scenes in the movie were EPIC, all round amazing. Even when there would be a love scene or a scene in which there is valuable needed to be obtained, you are simply glued to your seat. In most movies that are longer that two hours long, one would start to lose interest in the movie. In this movie, I could not keep my eyes off of the screen, for 3 hours, I did not look away. From the stunning visual effects to the outstanding cast and crew, James Cameron put an all round great movie on the theater screen, and I am not surprised this film has already made it to the Top 250 list.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Simply Insanity
In this movie, it demonstrates real insanity. I have never came across a film that portrayed such insanity. A movie with a great cast and a great story behind it. Starting off with Martin Sheen as a Special Force Captain who finally gets the mission he has been waiting for. A mission that involves killing an insane and deranged Colonel (Marlon Brando). With a great secondary cast which contains great modern day actors including Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Harrison Ford, Dennis Hopper, and Frederic Forrest. Each actor in this movie shows outstanding talent, I was simply awed by the performance in this. Mainly what this movie portrays is the insanity war can make you experience. This film captures this in the best way possible, each character shows this in a different way, some of the minor characters such as the playboy models even show how insanity effects them. But the effects used in the film and the music in the background play a an important role in creating a certain tone for the movie, in which Jim Morrison does an amazing job at. The Doors song, The End, showed insanity and brutal mentality in it which played great in the film. Even as an opening song saying The End was a very clever and very entertaining aspect of the video. Overall this movie gives you an experience that no other video will ever give you, and experience that will take your breath away and will leave you thinking for weeks as I have been.
Enemy at the Gates (2001)
Truly Amazing
Enemy at the Gates is an all round amazing movie, it is full of action, drama, suspense, and brutality. It will make you jump up from your seat and be dramatized by its spectacular scenes. For me, I went into this movie with high expectations, but it even amazed me more then i could of thought.
Actors Jude Law, Bob Hoskins, Joseph Fiennes, Ed Harris, and Rachel Weisz did outstanding jobs at their roles making you feel a bunch of emotions during this film. I would give this movie a 9/10 at the least simply because it had drama, suspense, action, and many more all put into one amazing war movie. I recommend this movie for anyone because as a war movie you learn certain historical facts, and it will have your emotions running in different ways the whole time.
Joe's Apartment (1996)
Interesting but great!
This movie was a different one. But in every way possible was entertaining. I would give this a 6/10 at the least because it was a very different kind of story, but the acting for some characters could have been better, in my opinion. This is a great film for a more mature audiences simply because of its sexual humor and harsh language, which there is a lot of. But none the less, this was a fantastic movie, with a bunch of slap-stick humor, so anyone who loves this kind of humor should definitely watch. Also if your going to watch this film, be ready for some weird scenes and musical parts, because that is kind of what this movie is mostly put of. But overall, if your in the mood for a great slap-stick humor film, go watch Joe's Apartment.
Heroes (2006)
Simply Amazing!
When someone first brought up Heroes, I thought that it would be the average boring show that wouldn't last long. But man, I was wrong! Ever since I started watching this series, it has had me glued to the seat. Every episode gives you the best cliffhangers that keeps you interested in the series. Also I love how it has many cliffhangers before commercials, and i do admit, it makes me mad every time they go on.
This series had a great selection of actors, they picked actors that are not as popular as most, to keep you more interested in the show instead of what the actors have played in. Which in my opinion is a outstanding idea. Also the acting in Heroes is just great all round, and actually are perfect for roles they play.
I recommend this show for all viewers, simply because it teaches you about abusing the amount of power one has, and shows you what happens when you do that. Which is a great message for anyone who watches it. Also once you watch this show, it will keep you talking about it for the next couple of days.
Smokin' Aces (2006)
Keeps your eyes on the screen!
I was kind of mad because i waited for this movie to come out on DVD instead of seeing it in theaters. And this was a big mistake. Smokin Aces is a very action packed movie, and is very well put together.
The acting in this film was simply amazing, all round. For Ryan Reynolds, it was a different role for him, but he did an amazing job, other than the usual comedian. Ray Liotta was a fantastic co-star as well too. But i would have to highlight the great acting of Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Chris Pine (Blind Dating), and hip-hop artist Common. These three actors did an amazing job at their role.
I would rate this film a 9/10 minimum, even though it didn't get great ratings while in theaters, because of the great acting in this movie, plot, and all round greatness of the movie.
I recommend anyone who reads this comment to watch this movie, hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have.
Dracula 2000 (2000)
Watch It!
I can't see why this film got such a low rating, it has easily became one of my top favorite movies of all time. The reason this movie is amazing, is because it takes the old Dracula tale that everyone knows and puts it into a modern time situation. It is a fun and enjoyable that keeps you in your seat. The acting in this movie is wonderful, actors like Johnny Lee Miller, Gerald Gutler, Christopher Plummer, and Omar Epps did fantastic jobs on their roles. Overall this movie has a great story line, above average acting, and many more. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good vampire flick, or anyone who just wants to sit back and enjoy a great movie. Easy 10 out of 10 no doubt.
Valkyrie (2008)
Fantastic Movie
Going in to this movie i thought it wouldn't have been as great as it was. Tom Cruise did an amazing job on his role, as rest of the other cast, and it actually was more of what happened in history, instead of just trying to put a lot of Special FX into the movie to catch the attention of the audience. Also i had to admit, it did not have as many action scenes as i thought. But even though it did not have these parts it still was an amazing movie. This also had many deep scenes that made you think and actually brought some emotions up. I would highly recommend anyone to see this movie because you learn a bit from history and get to enjoy a fantastic movie.
