Bored me but it looked great.
29 November 2021
Let's put it this way I grew up with the games and original movies and this felt like the games without the thrills. Scares weren't effective like the games. They spent way to much time making it look good and not enough time on story or action. I appreciate the time they took making it look just like the game but I kept waiting to get immersed in the story or action but I just didn't.

Overall nice effort and if you were going for visuals you'll be happy. But don't go for scares or action. Not much to be had here. And don't think I'm trying to be a hater. I was looking forward to this. My car is an umbrella corporation vehicle so resident evil has a special place in my heart. And even tho I do love the original movies flawed as they may be they were a lot better than this.

I'm looking forward to see what they do next time around if we get another. Hopefully this will just be one of those origin stories that tend to be a little slower than the rest of the series. It's in good hands just let's level up the story pacing next time.

Great gore bad acting and script.
19 September 2021
You need to be a lover of low budget movies or at least a person that can tolerate them to enjoy this. The reason they put it as a Comedy/Horror I assume is because the acting is laughable since that's the funniest part about it. I really enjoyed this film it was a fun ride to laugh at and enjoy some gore. The script needed work big time. The dialogue was pushing it for a lot of it and it felt rushed and unintelligent. There is a lot of horror clichés in here. But it is enjoyable tho don't expect 10 out of 10 on the special effects. Tho it had some cringe worthy moments and I loved that. Take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.

Slightly disappointed.

Lacking kills for sure! I found myself waiting a lot with this one. It was a good movie. But not a good saw movie. The kills lacked intricacy and were way to far in between. One of the kills was creative not many others. It just didn't feel effective to me. And I love the other installments every one of those suckers but this one not so much. I'm just hoping they add a lot with the unrated cut if not then this will be the first one that has made me sad in the sense it just didn't meet my expectations. Give it a go a see for yourself but I'd wait for the unrated cut for sure!!

More enjoyable than most.
28 January 2021
I came into this hoping because I've been on a bad run with horror movies lately. But this one was actually above average for found footage and deserves a bit of credit. The story was looped with realism throughout. That's if you know the real life references. I felt this added to it's effectiveness. And the story was actually well constructed and isn't a copout at the end like a ton of these are. Or I should say most of these are since they seem to never come up with a ending. This one did and doesn't just go blank screen at the end. I love found footage done right and this is the best I've seen in a while now.

Promising but overall weak.

Great concept but a huge lack of scares and gore. Deaths go by so fast or off screen it's almost pointless. If the deaths in the film were better or a bit more highlighted instead of rushed I would have liked it a lot more then I did. But it's boring as a horror movie but a decent drama. Not nearly enough here to be considered an effective horror film.

Surprisingly gory for a ghost story.
8 January 2020
I actually did enjoy the film. But I can't say it scared me. I really wanted it to but nope. It's messed up in many ways and the gore was a great surprise! I didn't think I was going to get any gore let alone the amount I got. It was the highlight of the film for me.

The scares however fell flat. I found it was too quiet in places where an eerie musical score would have boosted the effectiveness in my opinion. And it was just a ton of jump scares. And unfortunately none of them got me but my nephew who is 16 jumped a few times pretty hard.

I think the rating is understandable"ish" based on the gory parts but it feels like a PG-13 movie for most of it. It was nice they kept it connected with the original 3 whom I'm a fan of. The tone of the film is clear throughout even tho it can get a bit jumpy at times. Since we are given 3 different stories and 3 different time frames. Even tho they connect it's hard to place the year that you are watching sometimes since it jumps back and forth and shares characters.

Overall I am super disappointed that it just didn't scare me at all. But if you are looking for a decently crafted dramatic ghost story this one might be a win for you. My nephew loved it and I enjoyed it tho I was sad about the lack of scariness and it's over reliance on jump scares. It's not a horrible movie. I'd give it a shot even more so if jump scares are your thing. You're gonna love it of so.

Why? Just why?
31 December 2019
Here we go again.. Take what could have been a effective found footage sequel and make it normal. I really will never understand the logic behind it. Take a film that's known for its effectiveness in found footage format and make a sequel that completely ignores that fact.

I was excited for this film. I saw the original in the theater the day it came out and I own it. This however I will not be adding to my collection. It's dull and not scary in the least. The jump scares aren't effective in my opinion. I didn't jump once and I was hoping to like I did with the first film.

The acting was one of the few redeeming qualities that It has and I give the actors two thumbs up. It wasn't an ugly or a cheap looking film. But as a sequel to the gallows this fails hard for me.

I was so excited when I saw this was coming out. And quite upset I wasn't able to see it in the theater like I did the first. And now that I've watched it I know why. Even tho the theater setting would've improved the quality of the scares very slightly I get why it didn't get a wide release. It's simply not effective.

Younger horror fans may enjoy this more than anybody else I think. It's just not scary or entertaining enough to enlighten an older audience in my option. If there is a gallows Act III I won't be excited for it like I was this one. I hoped for a sequel and I guess I got one...

Loved it!
19 October 2019
I wasn't disappointed in the least. The only downfall is the lack of Captain Spaulding but we all know why he isn't in here that much. So it is obviously forgiven and I'm thankful we got the time that we did with him on screen.

Having said that I really don't understand the hate it's getting. My nephew and I loved it! It gave me everything I hoped for. It has the characters we know and love and doesn't fail on the execution of the personalities. And the new character we get fits in like a glove. He is defiantly family because he is as messed up as they are and I love every second of it. Avoid the harsh reviews on this one. It's so much better then it's being received.

I'd love another one. Tho I'd be happy to have this as the seal on a solid horror trilogy.

A fun watch with decent scares.
16 August 2019
My nephews 9 and 16 loved it. I liked it a lot and would probably watch it again. It's one that is best in a theater like setting like the first one in my opinion. The scares are more effective in a theater setting due to that it does rely on a decent amount of jump scares. But and it's a big but... they are placed well and aren't cheap jumps. You jump for a reason and not just a noise so they're done right and effectively in my opinion. But it has plenty of scary moments and situations that aren't cheap jump scares. You can't call the jumps like you can in other movies and that's what makes it refreshing.

For what it is it did an amazing job and you should give it a chance. I think you'll like it. They might be pushing it with another one but this can stand alone as a decent creature feature that isn't boring in the slightest. The only reason it's getting a seven and not an eight is the horribly done word changes. I caught two moments where they changed what they said. I'm assuming for the rating since it was a crap in place of a cuss word and another that I can't remember off the top of my head but it was a cuss word. I wasn't happy with this. I'm tired of over censorship and I think this is one of those cases. A bunch of young girls are gonna cuss it's not surprising. Watch it and you'll most likely enjoy it. That's the only thing I didn't like about it.

Don't go for the graphic nature of the story. It's not...
10 August 2019
This movie is a waste of time. If you are going for the story of Sharon Tate like I did don't go. You will be thoroughly disappointed. I was super excited for this. Even more so when I heard who was going to be playing Sharon. But I felt like I was betrayed when this movie was over. Out of all filmmakers on the scene I never would have thought Tarantino would be the one to disappoint with the graphic nature of the story. He took a great concept and ruined it. This is a super tame documentary that ends up lying to the audience. This was the worst I've seen this year.

An effective gore free fright fest.
9 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this movie knowing blood was not going to be a thing I was going to see in this film. It is based on a book series for teens after all. Me being a fan of the books as a kid I was super excited when I found out about this and I wasn't disappointed. It isn't a fast paced scare, scare and scare again movie. It takes its time in places but it doesn't feel slow. The CGI and creatures were super creepy and awesomely effective.

Was it the scariest thing I've seen? No.. far from it but I will watch it again and hope it might get itself a unrated version for the more intense moments. I didn't feel like they held back to much like I was scared they would do like they did slender man and sunk it to the bottom of the ocean.

Watch it! It has its harsh moments and it gets vicious at times. Someone even gets impaled and the deaths are shown on screen so don't worry it won't cut away right before the good stuff. It gives you that good stuff tho slightly tame but super scary and effective.

I respect it.
13 June 2019
It's not a bad movie and I love the fact that it was shot all at once. Other movies with that claim normally don't deliver with having a cut here or there. But this one promises to be purely one shot and a huge thumbs up for that. Also a brilliant performance from the lead actress so two thumbs up for her. I study horror movies like this looking for how many times I can guess how they achieved the scare or special effect and a few times I went really?.... but I did over all enjoy it. Far from the worst I've seen in the found footage genre. Tho it does rely on some simple things to get by on scares in the start. It ends strong enough without falling flat on its face. The most original story? No. But a good watch with a great atmosphere and creepy sound design. Go in without expecting too much and you might be surprised with how much you enjoy it.

Not the nun 2... Or is it?
21 May 2019
I loved the nun and this was okay. But I do wonder if I saw this first would I feel the same. Or would I love this and hate that? My point is the formula of getting my attention here to shock me over there is getting old. You can call almost everyone before it happens. And sorry but drowning a few kids should not make it an R rating this is a PG-13 movie at best. I think the drowning was meant to shock a lot more then it did with me. Not a horrible movie. But I was disappointed.

So happy it was free.
30 April 2019
The fact that I rented this from the local library for free is the only reason I'm not mad I had to fast forward to the last 30 minutes for entertainment. I watched the first 30 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore. They tried hard but yet again I ran into the fact I can't give it an A for effort. Nothing new here just the same old doors closing, blankets moving and a device going off etc... I was able to understand the end without watching the middle of the movie. It just felt like a lot of filler to me. If this was the first found footage I would have seen (this is far from my first and I typically enjoy these films) I might have liked it better. But in the end it was boring and you can find plenty more found footage movies that are a lot more worth it. I feel for you if you paid money for this I really do. The box got me with this one. I really had hopes for it and nope...

Not gory whatsoever.
23 March 2019
The severe warning for gore on here is way off. If you are looking for gore this is not the movie for you. A lot of the death is off screen. The blood amount is very low. It's a good one and unique in ways but don't get your hopes up when it comes to gore or graphic death. It's more atmosphere, jump and story scares then anything.

Watch this movie... Heck this kinda movie is what makes animal activists. I laugh but it's true. It's funny how movies like this really make you realize how numb we are to human horror. It's harder for me to watch animal death then human death.

So basically if animal cruelty or animal-based cultural differences gets to you then this movie is definitely gonna make you feel something.

Loved it!
17 February 2019
Just like the original it's a very story based movie. But the viciousness of the harder scenes makes up for it in my opinion. I enjoyed it more than the original. Even though I know a lot of people might disagree with me I thought it was better. You just got to pay attention to the story and the puzzle pieces. It's not a movie that gives everything away easily. You have to pay attention and be able to read subtitles at the same time as you take it in. There is a decent amount of subtitles so if that's not your thing be aware. I think it is a masterpiece of horror and I am very sad that it didn't earn what it deserved at the box office. The gore was great and entertaining but I don't find it to be overly gory even tho it has a lot. Gore lovers like myself will be happy. You will cringe and feel the pain during certain scenes of the movie and with that alone I feel it's effective. Watch it!

Give me what is mine.
8 February 2019
More like give me back some time. Would have been amazing if the runtime was cut by 50 minutes. The bathroom creature was pretty cool and creepy. Good acting and It was a well made film. I just don't see why it was as long as it was. I get suspense but it's not that suspenseful. Well acted and well made at the end of the day. Just way drawn out for no reason in my opinion. I didn't hate it. I probably would have loved it if it was condensed.

I waited so long...
12 September 2018
It's been a few years since I first anticipated this film. And to go on Netflix and have it on there was an epic surprise. I truly wasn't disappointed. I loved it! It's not a perfect movie by far but for what it is I think it did it's job well. The gore was extremely well done and was awesomely over the top without being laughable. The story isnt the most detailed story to be told. It could have been better for sure. But it wasn't boring. Would I love to see another one?... Yes! I love art as a movie villain. When it comes down to it I'll watch it again with other people. And it's worth a shot.

I want to rate it a 7 for effort...
14 June 2018
But I can't... It's a watchable movie and the last 30 some minutes were great. But in all it's slow and uneventful. The cast did a good job for the most part. Acting was believable. But it's a boring movie unforchinitly.

I was looking threw out the movie for someone hiding in the background or some sort of hidden horror and it happened once in an hour and 11 minutes... If the movie was 45 minutes it would have been a winner! But there isn't anything to be enjoyed here until the climax.

This is a great barkground noise movie. You know the type. You only turn your head and watch when the music tells you something is happening. As you play on your phone. It's perfect for that.
