The Book Thief (2013)
Read The Book First
I am reviewing this title as a person who read the book. As you know movies that based on novel, it is inevitable that compare film and book. Mostly characters in the movie does not comply with that you imagine while reading and this can disappoint you. We mostly like book except a few exceptions.
I have a few criticism according to book. In the movie there is noting about Miss Holtzapfel. Whereas she is mentioned mostly especially late in the book. In the book it is mentioned some tragic incidents about her and her sons. Also Liesel goes to her and reads book to Miss Holtzapfel. Likewise not mentioned about Ilsa Hermann in detail. However she is a very important character in the book. Many times Liesel goes her house for stealing books and Ilsa Hermann noticed that. She leaves a letter to Liesel and say that she does not has to come in by stealth, she can come anytime that she wants. These details are not part of the movie. Except for these there are also some details that not mentioned or different according the book in the movie.
Although some criticism above, generally I like the movie. The atmosphere of the book and World War II Nazi Germany is reflected successfully. I can say that casting is successful but I imagine Hans Hubermann younger. I recommend this movie but after reading the book. My rating is 7/10.
Black Mirror: Playtest (2016)
I Think The Best Episode
As a fan of Black Mirror, I have to say that this is the most satisfying episode of the TV show. This really well-made, well directed and so on.
Actually this episode showed us that phobia has no limit. The main character (Cooper) talked about his father and his alzheimer disease. This situation affected him deeply and he fears that he will become like his father. The story rely on this fear as a basis.
There are two plot twists in this episode but, especially second one is predictable. Unlike other Black Mirror episodes, it has not worry of giving a message, but it tells the main point very well.
At the end, we will find out it does not take even one second that reminds Inception.
Don't Breathe (2016)
A Good Thriller
First of all, in a year that not much productive for movie sector up to me, this movie is absolutely worth to go movie house. Don't Breathe is a good thriller that it's tension never falls. As watching the movie, sometimes you feel like you are not supposed to breathe as it's name. You will never got bored when watching this movie. When considered that three young people can't get out of a blind man's house, there some illogical points at this movie. But thanks to it's nondecremantal tempo, you can ignore most of these. As a fan of Sam Raimi, it is very happy to see him as a producer of this movie. Also Fede Alvarez did a good job as a director.
Remember (2015)
A Film To Remember
I think this movie is one of the notable movies of 2015. As a movie that reminds Memento time to time, it has a very successful story line. Although the story flows slowly sometimes, it achieves to stay audience awake and ensures that they wonder movie's end. As watched this movie, you absolutely interiorise Zev character. But a good plot twist is waiting for you at the end. Christopher Plummer did a good job as a leading role in the movie. In my opinion other actors and actresses are above average. I didn't have many expectations about movie, but when I watching, the story of Zev had begun to arouse my curiosity. Don't be prejudiced about actors are mostly old. This is a movie that watch with relish.
Psycho (1960)
Ahead Of Its Time
This movie is one of the best movies of Alfred Hitchcock. Definitely it is a milestone in horror-thriller movies. Ahead of its time because, when you look at the horror movies that made in 60's, you will mostly see zombies, vampires, monsters or somethings like that. But this movie achieve to tense and frighten audience without any of these and give a new impulse to movie sector. Absolutely, step forward with its distinctive subject according to its time. This movie has watched someone itself from beginning to the end without get bored. This is a great movie and Alfred Hitchcock did a very good job. Please remember that this movie made in 1960 when watching.
Whiplash (2014)
Incredible Acting Performance
This movie is one of the most successful movies of year 2014 and very successful at especially technical aspect. But in my opinion the performance of J.K. Simmons is deserved to speak much more than this. One of the his performance as Vern Schillinger from OZ(1997) TV show was the first acting that got my attention. After this I watched him at Juno (2007). These two characters are really poles apart. Although one of this characters is a wild criminal, the other is a meek family man. He performed these two opposite characters very successfully and I watched him with pleasure. With this performance, he really hit the top and deserved Oscar all the way.
