Jackass: The Movie (2002)
-10 and counting
Ok, I'm a guy but that doesn't make me an asinine idiot. How the hell this 'thing' made it to the big screen is beyond me, but the fact that they have the nerve to call something like this a MOVIE or FILM is irritating and inept beyond belief. I got stuck seeing this. Why anyone would actually spend money to see this is way, way, way beyond me. Unless you into potty humor of the lowest level, actually this is beyond potty humor, don't even let it near your DVD system. It may be corrupted for life. Or worst yet, if you have a good system, it may just self destruct rather than have to play this s***. No kidding.
Anger Management (2003)
Awesomely unexpected
Hilarious. That's all there is to say. Jack Nicholson is at the top of his game and Adam Sandler makes an unlikely but very successful partner with Jack in this film. A great way to let go of your anger while laughing your ass off. If you're p***ed about something when you go in, Nicholson does enough letting off steam to that by the time you leave the film, he's done the work for you. Way to go Jack!
Looking Through Lillian (2001)
Out of the blue and cool
A really cool little movie. The cast is all unknowns, at least unknown to me, but the movie had some juicy little bits in it. Not the type of thing for your grandmother to sit down and watch, she'd probably have a heart attack (unless she's got one hell of a closet that you don't know about, accidental pun there), but a cool movie for the rest of us. Liked the chick in it a lot, but really loved the last 30 minutes, period. Definitely not a waste of a rental.
Iris (2001)
A worthwhile flick with two great ladies
A really touching film, Iris opened up a whole new life to me of someone that I had personally never heard of. Judi Dench and Kate Winslet are really awesome - two British ladies who not only have class by talent by the truckload. As for the director, what a great first time out feature film debut (he's only listed with TV films to his credit up until this one). Also really opened my eyes to Alzheimer's, having never had any family members or anyone else I know afflicted by it. If you're in to more indie/euro films, this is really worth the watch. Classic English film making.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Waste. Period.
Massively horrendous. I wish I could just stop right there but I think you have to write at least 3 lines for the comments to go through. So, all I can add is: waste of money, waste of time, tasteless, done, ridiculously bad, airhead chicks cast and the guys aren't much better (although who else would've done this film?), and a really, really bad excuse for some guy to say he directed a horror film. There, that should be enough to sum it all up.
Waking Up in Reno (2002)
Terrible
What an absolutely crappy film this is. How or why this movie was made and what the hell Billy Bob Thornton and Charlize Theron were doing signing up for this mediocre waste of time is beyond me. Strong advise for anyone sitting down to catch a flick: DO NOT waste your time on this 'film'.
Sunset Blvd. (1950)
One Helluva Film
Sunset Boulevard was absolutely amazing to watch again given the fact that it was made some 40 odd years ago and still holds up as a very modern film whose commentary on Hollywood is still right on. Gotta love Gloria Swanson for having the balls to take on this role, given the fact that she was, at this point, a faded star in real life. William Holden is magnificent, the kind of man's man that never seem to be onscreen nowadays. Just to have Von Stroheim and DeMille in a film playing themselves is a trip in itself.
A tribute to just how amazing Billy Wilder was. They'll never be another quite like him.
The Score (2001)
Simply Awful
I tried to watch this movie on 3 different occasions and every time I fell asleep during it, only to wake up and find the damn thing still going. I have no idea why actors of the caliber of Ed Norton and Robert DeNiro would be involved in such a lackluster, slow moving film. The director looks like he didn't even show up for filming. Angela Bassett is wasted, an unused goldmine. Brando - well, Brando is Brando, but certainly not at his best. Why the hell he was even cast in this is beside me.
All in all, this movie is a total bore and total waste and I have been completely puzzled by all the people that have thought this film is soooo great.
A snoozer. Don't waste your time.
