Perkins' 14 (2009)
Had it's moments
Well let me start off by saying that this movie was a pretty decent horror movie. I've seen several of the "8 films to die for" movies made over the last three years. Some good, some not so good. Premise was good but something was missing to make it a great horror movie, not sure what. The "PCP psychos" were effective. The one thing that really bothered me was at the end when the sheriff had locked his daughter in the cell to protect her from the the "PCP psychos" (one of which is his son whom was among the kidnapped)he locks the her cell door and the bar door that leads to the cells. Then he goes out of the locked bar door looking for his son hoping that he will recognize him and remember the love they had. Now, I understand his motives but in his overwhelming guilt of not looking harder to find his son, he goes to hug his son and gets his neck broken. Now the son has the keys to the cell where his sister is suppose to be safe. He goes in and kills the sister with a shotgun that she's holding. He should have left the key or his daughter. In his quest to regain his son, he lost his life and the life of his daughter.
The Strangers (2008)
Connection to Underworld
Well, let me start off by saying that I'm the type of person who will watch a scary movie even if it didn't get good review ( I do like some bad ones) I'll watch them over and over again if I like them. That being said, I doubt that I'll watch this one again.I was surprised to see that it got the same number of stars on the IMDb viewer rating as did "Vacancy". I think "Vacancy" was much more frightening (as well as disturbing) than "The Strangers". Both movies had pretty much the same premise. Did anyone think it was kind of funny that Scott Speedman (Strangers)and Kate Beckensale (Vacancy)were in "Underworld" and these two similar movies together? Interesting. I have to say there were a couple of things that really bothered me.****Spoiler coming up**** The lighting outside in some shots were dark while in the next shot in the same spot was lighter. Then when Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler are in the car getting ready to escape, the "Maskers" pull up behind them in the truck instead of trying to drive away and around the truck, they just sit there and get rear ended by the "Maskers". I was disappointed the "funny man" Glenn Howerton (from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" TV ) didn't have a bigger part. I would liked to have seen more of him. Although I feel Liv acting could have been better, shes a good screamer
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972)
A Christmas story
When you think about this guy ( Bob Clark ) being the same guy who did " A Christmas Story " (you'll shot your eye out), thats pretty frightening in itself. Thats one extreme to another. I saw this movie when I was 11 and the part that really stuck with me was the zombies were getting on the boat at the end. There really isn't much blood for how scary it is. I just recently purchased it ( a couple of places I looked for it were actually sold out/Best Buy) I forgot how scary it actually was, but I think the thing that makes it the scariest is the music/sound effects. Orville will live on as will "Bud" from Day of the Dead ( George Romero )I loved it
