Hulk (2003)
Disaster
This might be the worst movie I have ever seen. I understand and respect comic books, I understand that the characters all have backstories, but for its own good it only needed a synopsis of the super heroe's life, but ultimately when you go to see The Hulk, you want to see action. You want to see a huge green beast destroying buildings, because thats what you expect and thats what it was advertised as. This movies strikes me as something trying to be more than it is. The makers of this movie had to realize that they werent supposed to make a damn Oscar film, and by trying to make it whole, they made it dull instead. I sat there, riding out the storm in the theater, waiting for the idiot to turn green already. By the time he actually did turn green, I just wished he would lose one of his mediocre battles so that the movie would just end. It was an endurance test, and Jennifer Connely and Nick Nolte are the ONLY good things out of this movie, and I feel sorry for them having tarnished their names on it.
I walked out of the theater in pure awe of what I had just seen. The director actually did a decent job with the technical side, considering it was supposed to seem like a comic book. Unfortunately, bad writing can cast a shadow over any directing. It killed the movie. It took a action movie with killer potential and turned it into a vapid wanna-be drama. And by the time it actually did turn into an action movie, it was actually pretty well done. Again, unfortunately, nothing could pull the shipwreck of a script out of the water.
Terrible movie, steer clear
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
fun
This movie is rather rare nowadays, it had classic style and it was very fun to watch. It is like a caper from the past translated perfectly for todays audience, slightly reminiscent of Ocean's 11. DiCaprio and Hanks both give good performances, and Walken does well in the limited showtime he receives. The screenplay was excellent, as well as the script writing. This is one that will be appreciated later on, if not by people today.
Carnosaur (1993)
Bad, in a good way
I saw this film when I was 8 years old. Even then I was able to laugh at it. It wasn't a good movie, that's for sure. But the fact that I remember this film for its sheer mockability, well that alone is worth something. Not good, in fact it's terrible. Watch it if you want to be able to sit there and laugh at it with your friends. It's enjoyable in that sense, and isn't that the whole point?
Going Overboard (1989)
Awful
I don't care if the film itself made fun of itself. I don't care if this is supposed to be some useless slapstick comedy. Film was wasted shooting this movie. It doesen't even really seem like a movie, I felt like I was watching a really long sitcom. I would have welcomed commercials to interrupt the blandness of this vile, useless, and vapid movie. I have pity for anybody who owns this movie. It makes me cringe to think about all the scripts out there that don't get created, but someone was willing to run with this one.
Bottom Line: Truly awful, maybe the worst movie in the history of the universe.
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
An Instant Classic
The Royal Tenenbaums isn't just some corky comedy movie. Every frame is a piece of art. It is obvious that much time was put into the artistic side of this movie. The closet filled with board games, and the sailors walking past Margot(Gwyneth Paltrow) at the train station, and other scenes yet add to this movie. The soundtrack is amazing, the casting is amazing...and each actor/actress plays their part perfectly. This movie is able to be serious and hilarious at the same time. Much of the humor is only evident upon later viewings. It's refreshing to know there are still comedies being made that aren't geared toward slapstick toilet humor. Props to Wes Anderson and the rest of the cast/crew on making a classic.
